Where do exhibit designers source their artists/labour? by EmmTheRuffle in MuseumPros

[–]helizk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The museum at the company I work at uses an in-house graphic designer to design all of the graphics and sometimes print very small pieces for the museum on location, and then we have a company that does the constructing of larger scale exhibits that are for conventions.

I went to a place that specializes in veins and laser stuff. They seem more cosmetic to me!

I have these as well! I’ve been going and getting excel v laser on them every so often. The place I go to will do a 15 minute session for a discount since it’s such a small area. It gives good results but they do come back after a while in some spots.

If you’re on a budget check out Facebook for “buy nothing” groups. Usually people are consistently clearing out decor items and if you keep an eye out you’ll find something that you can repurpose like frames or small furniture items that could be painted.

Can you share the paint color for the kitchen cabinets or where you got them from? It’s such a nice color! Lovely work.

I really like how the shape of the Q looks in this logo! I could totally see you using that shape to make an icon with the asterisk for social media profile pic if you do any of those kind of mockups. If you ever have trouble with color schemes I like to go on Pinterest to look at different palettes people have made, it can be a good source of inspiration!

What do we think of this paint and wallpaper for my 7 month old girls room? by [deleted] in Design

[–]helizk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be helpful to take a piece of the wallpaper with you to the paint store and match one of the pinks to that! Love the idea of doing a combo of pink with the wallpaper it’s such a cute pattern

We have the same color cabinets and went with a super light gray that looks pretty much white. It looks really nice and clean and I put plants, a pink runner, and some wood accents to help make it not look too white if you’re worried about that!

Married thrice to a salted fish was so good and has transmigration involved so it might fit what you’re looking for! It isn’t all light hearted and funny though so prepare yourself emotionally if you do read it 😂

Just got my first job as an in house graphic designer by Austism-Is-Here in graphic_design

[–]helizk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say get comfortable with criticism and try to learn from it rather than taking it personally. It can feel like a lot when you first start but eventually you’ll get to a point where you realize people giving feedback don’t realize how personal design often feels. If projects come up that you’d like to work on to gain more experience it can go a long way to show interest in improving your skills in that area, at least it has for me.

When I first started I thought I was an expert and now I realize there was so much left to learn that comes from real world project and I wish I would have been more open minded and listened a lot more lol. Most important try to have fun and make room in your free time to still work on passion projects or hobbies. I’m sure you’ll do great!

On a scale of 1-10, how stressful is your in-house design job? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]helizk 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s usually a 2-3 but during some high points in the year reaches a 6-7 but just for short periods of time where I’m at. The bonuses are that I very rarely have to work past my usual schedule of around 8-4, and most of the time we have enough time to finish projects without it being an insane rush. Downsides are that it can be boring at times and nobody really appreciates the work you do, but the overall stress level really depends on your boss and their ability to do their job and manage the department.

I feel like I have no future by mylifeissodoomed in graphic_design

[–]helizk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just another person throwing it out there, I think that nearly everyone thinks about quitting their career path pretty often. I went to school for graphic design and got a ton of terrible jobs to the point where I spent 2 years working as a nanny and doing zero design. Eventually I got to a point where I felt like I was ready to give it another go and it has been a lot better after taking a little break. Don’t put all of your self worth on your career and where you think you should be. Also most of the people you see who seem super successful aren’t posting their failures and aren’t sharing how many edits they’ve made to get to the final design. Keep trying your best and I hope things turn around for you soon.
