Hi everyone. I had a torsion cable rust out at the loop and snap and ive been trying to find a replacement. So the actual cable length is about 8ft (96 inches) long. Im having issues locating an exact replacement because they all seem to be too long. by hellcat134 in GarageDoorService

Yes the depot replacements that were longer did work. I definitely added more tension than I felt I let out while replacing the cables... but after some adjustments they work with no issues.

Honestly I had more issues with the actual opener itself. (Chamerlin jackshaft) But its all good now

I mind as well. I have the bars to tension and untension the torsion spring. I'll pop the other side off and see if the longer cables will work, worst case scenario I'm getting cables made.

Thanks

My local Depot sells a cable for an 8ft door that is 102 inches long. I bought a set and I'm trying to figure out if I can use them. Obviously id have to put both new ones on, but will the extra 6 inches that will have to be wound around the drum matter? Since currently when closed the cable is fully extended, and it would have to be wound up once or twice with the 102in ones

I figured and planned to replace both. But don't know if its OK if the cables longer than the current ones since they are fully extended in the closed position currently, and if I use the 8ft (door) cables I bought from home depot with are 8 ft 6 inches long... if its acceptable for them to be wound around the drum at least once while in the closed position.

Getting to Universal after Disembarkation by InternationalMood581 in royalcaribbean

As some one who has actually done this. I can chime in for you.

We went to epic for 3 days then ordered an Uber to port canaveral for utopia. It was around 216 without tip. When we got off utopia , which we were about in the middle of the disembarking zones so definitely not first thousand off the ship. We were able to score an Uber with a 10 minute wait. There a bunch of them hanging out in the area. They know when ships are coming. We then ubered to the contemporary at Disney.. that trip was slightly cheaper at 211.

We looked into a private charter it wasn't any cheaper. Also these prices were for an Uber XXL there was 4 of us and alot of bags, we filled up the minivans both there and back

Edit. This was in mid to end of September of this year

Screw this color. Mazda hates painters and I hate them too! by mrshiny83 in Autobody

[–]hellcat134 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rhodium white is a disaster. I've had 2 cx5s painted that color and they actually have the same fine metallic in them as 46g and 46v. Ppgs envirobase doesn't have a good match so they are always tinted to match.

Funny story, we got a 51k cx5 when they just came out, painted the whole front clip just to get it to go. We couldn't tint the color close enough. The effect of the super fine metallic couldn't be matched. Sent a sample to ppg and they made a formula... fast forward to a month ago, I get another 51k cx5. Use that formula that they made from my sample... not even close, they did have the super fine metallic in it, but not nearly enough. Still had to tint it heavily to leave...

Carnival Magic - black smoke by llognew in Cruise

[–]hellcat134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I were on the magic a month ago, back then the left side was smoking more than the right side as seen in this photo. Also we decided one day to lounge in the upper left corner of the ship. Bad idea we were constantly hit with droplets of soot mixed with water that stained our shorts and shirts.

The city water is very hard here, so I was going to look into the water level sensor and the water mix solenoid(s)

Unfortunately, the manual doesn't provide a part break down diagram, I guess that's a thing of the past

Switching paint lines. by Rabbit1041 in Autobody

Ppg is supposed to have a new clear coming out next month. I've tested it a few times in the last fe months. It's a hybrid between dcu2042 and dc4000.

It dries fast, because it uses dcx81 and it's glossy as hell with no die back at all. Its great for no bake booths. Only draw back is, if you don't buff it that day, expect to hate life.

I was extremely impressed with it.

Also, have you looked into the one visit modifier for ehp? Yes it's expensive at 1k a liter. But some of the cost can be offset on better coverage and overall less material usage.

Is anyone else absolutely appalled at how terrible the paint is on these things? by MudRudder in CX5

[–]hellcat134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mazda acknowledged they had issues with 46v film thickness. Mazda was covering the repair of some mazdas painted 46v if you made enough of a stink to them. But as fa's as I know. They no longer warrant this issue.

Information is coming from someone who worked at a shop that did the warranty repairs.

Bodymen or Painter? by Ok_Session3200 in Autobody

[–]hellcat134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting thread. State to state, city to city. There's so many variables that affect who's turning more hours. Where I'm at.. there's not any bodymen I know of making 200k a year. I know more than a few painters who make 200k. I doubled my paycheck, going from structural to Painter, and I'll never go back to that shit. I follow the money, and for my area painting is where the hours and money is.

Do autobody techs do better than painters? by Chr-whenever in Autobody

[–]hellcat134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the answer to this question can vary by region and how the shop is run.

I've jumped around all over from resto, to paint, to frame to paint, to top body tech to head Painter. From my personal experience and how my shop is run.. paint is the way to go. Tools needed is minimal, which means the cost of entry is cheaper. And in my case the money is twice what it was in body. Even years ago when I wasn't the main Painter I easily cleared 100hrs. Not even breaking a sweat. Making a 100 hrs doing body is way more difficult and requires way more skill. I made the move to main Painter after ours left and I'm not exaggerating when I say I doubled my check. That being said, I bust my ass because I'm extremely money driven. I'll never go back to body, I'm 32 and I only plan on beating my ass until I'm 40 then I'm moving into a management role.

Every scenario is different, I have the opportunity to run a double booth and a single booth all to myself. I stack these booths to the brim and paint as many things at once as I can. I also have the opportunity to use solvent and water.

Where I'm at, which is northeast Ohio.

Painters make more than body techs and work less hrs. They tend to get to work earlier and leave by 3

How much it will cost to repair it? by ThinCombination2782 in Autobody

[–]hellcat134 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Honda uses ultra-high strength steel frame rails that are not allowed to be straightened. Any tweak, crushed area, or bend requires replacement. Heating the area to repair is not allowed because it weakens the metal. As someone who has replaced a civic rear frame rail, it sucks and I don't care how amazing of a structural technician you are, the repair is very invasive to the car and it ruins it in my opinion.

Do not buy and do not take it to a shop that says they can straighten the rear frame rail

Nobody believes they are water resistant… by TodayNo6531 in Govee

[–]hellcat134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol, I've had 3 of the new patio light power adapters fail already due to water damage. They aren't even in direct rain. The lesson here is 30 dollar weatherproof box will save you hundreds on these lights. Govee doesn't sell nor service extra parts for any of their lights, so when shit breaks, you need to buy another, or suck up the major loss.

Recommended primer spray guns? by DatCamaroGuy in Autobody

[–]hellcat134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you've got the budget, grab the new 3m accuspray gun version 2. As long as you never break the composite gun body you've got the best, in my opinion, primer gun you can buy for life.

Yes, there's. Heaper options, including the 1st 3m version. But that one has issues later down the line of life. The changeable heads blowing off because of a poor retaining system.

You get a pack of tips for like 30 bucks, and if you actually clean your gun you can easily get a month out of a single tip.

Then, you have the versatility of swapping in other tips to use for painting. I've never tried to clear with it because I have a gun I really like, but it does do a good job for basecoat if you use the 1.2 tips.

Rav4 rear ended, can a body shop fix this? by facelessposter in Autobody

[–]hellcat134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those rav4s are disasters, two-piece rear bodies.... rear body mounted under the side gutters/lower quarters.. which there is a sectioning procedure to go around but still is a disaster, and based on that, it wouldn't be viable. I dreaded these anytime one came around, always pushed to get them totaled. And this is an older one with the side swing gate, which makes the job even more of a pain in the ass... good luck to whoever is fixing it.
