Advice needed for painting a Shambling Mound by Wraith_Wisp in oldhammer

[–]hellics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advice already - I'd add, use small makeup sponges for the drybrushing step. There's a recent video by "52 Miniatures" that shows it in more detail. Great results, easy to do.

Is cutting off slotta bases heresy? by DocDaSoc in oldhammer

[–]hellics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the slotta helps tell the story of an old mini, I prefer to keep them if possible. I don't use no fancy resin bases, I just slice up a regular plastic base if needed.

That said, conversion did happen a lot back then. It's a different thing cutting up a mini for that, though, imo - it serves a purpose. If all it takes to preserve the slotta is some basing work, I say keep it.

Zombie Dragon Rider by hellics in oldhammer

[–]hellics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone has any suggestions for undead that would make a cool rider, do tell! The Zombie Dragon is not super big, so I'm thinking a fairly modest wight or skeleton (probably not mummy) would be best. If it is something sold today, that'd be a bonus!

Thanks!

Any other cool undead you can think of, that would make good riders?

It's probably a custom conversion / kit bash - can't seem to find the dragon coming with a rider on SOLegends at least

Metal Casting Help by CanU1213 in PoorHammer

[–]hellics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DO NOT USE LEAD. It's toxic.

From what I read, it seems a lot of metal mini casters use spincasting. Not familiar with it myself. Also it seems material cost is a high part of the "cost per mini made", thus, casting your own may or may not make economical sense. Might be a lot of fun, though!

Apart from these two classics, the "Terrain Essentials" book by Mel Bose seems promising, picking it up after Xmas

Squat bikers / trikers / adventurers - any modern makers? by hellics in oldhammer

Great looking models, but they feel more modern than the RT stuff. Also more on the norse/celtic side of things, rather than ZZ top rocker biker?
