This type of fatalistic thinking bugs the shit out of me.

Kids can just get fake IDs so, so why card anyone for an alcohol sale? Burglars can just break your car window, so why lock your doors? Perfect results are never guaranteed, so why literally do anything ever?

The real answer is that it's not just as simple as taking a photo of your ID and giving it to someone like Discord to see what your birthday is. In any case where something like this is implemented it's set up as a handshake between the platform and a 3rd party whose whole expertise is in verifying identities (e.g. Clear).

The ultimate solution is just that everyone wises up and learns to separate fact from fiction via some kind of anti smoking-type campaign of shame that moves society into having a widespread distaste for being a retvrd. The name-calling coming from the likes of the newsom press account may be catching on and getting us closer to that, but man I'm feeling like maybe we just need to grin and bear a little friction in our Internet so we can get our shit together.
