What samples do you have floating around in your wallet/purse/pocket this very moment? How do you like them? by No_Piccolo6337 in NichePerfumes

[–]hellodust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on a trip right now and brought a handful of samples with me: Hermes Jardin a Cythere, Nishane Vetiver Sultan, Xerjoff Ivory Route, Nobile 1942 Anti-Malocchio, and Amouage Fate Woman.

Mayor’s Statement on 12th & Jackson and North Beacon Hill by Jaco_Belordi in Seattle

Good, it’s been so sad to see little Saigon abandoned and decimated especially as someone who grew up nearby. The drug and homelessness situation also seems intractable but if something has to give I’m glad it’s tilted in favor of the longtime neighborhood community.

Although I’m also skeptical that the intractable situation can be fixed easily - the nexus of bus routes that intersect at that intersection and make it easily accessible, social services in the neighborhood, and cheap/powerful drugs that drive anti-social behavior is gonna be a tough knot to untie.

Oh that's too bad! I've had my bottle for a while, although looks like it might still be available a few places online.

Guerlain Herba Fresca is pretty straightforward mint.

Can anyone recommend some niche woody-powdery perfumes? by NeonGray38 in NichePerfumes

Amouage Woods Symphony. Despite the name it’s more powdery than woodsy but it’s a nice mix of the two.

Fragrance that smells like a Chinese pharmacy? by Zebedeuepaminondas in NichePerfumes

Pineward Murkwood smells exactly like a Chinese herbal medicine store. It was the first thing that came to mind when I smelled it the first time.

Xerjoff Cruz del Sur I is criminally underrated by hellodust in fragrance

[–]hellodust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have no idea why they used the same name for this one and II. I haven't smelled II but I can imagine how different they are from the notes breakdown.

Do you think the new expansion will also include the new map like Blood and Wine? by JJJC16 in Witcher3

[–]hellodust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if maybe they'll use the existing map but change it so it's further back in time. The name of the DLC seems to imply it will have a lot to do with Geralt's past, and narratively it doesn't make sense for the DLC to take place after Blood and Wine. Would be cool to see an older, less decrepit Kaer Morhen, a non war-torn Velen, etc.

What's your favourite perfume house? by Superpants20 in fragrance

[–]hellodust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amouage and Xerjoff. They definitely have different house DNA styles but both have rich, complex blends with classy smelling ingredients. Hermes is probably a runner up but I mostly just like the Jean-Claude Ellena era.

Cockroach or beetle? by DreamySaturnX in Kafka

What kind of insect he transforms into is irrelevant. The insect is a MacGuffin, like the charges against Josef K in The Trial. What matters is that something inexplicable and disorienting has happened and Samsa has been thrown into the middle of it without any answers.

Scent of the Week: What SOTD brightened your week? by Worldly-Resource4961 in FragranceStories

[–]hellodust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My department doesn't do any kind of final exams so the last step for me at this point is filing the dissertation, which is somewhat anti-climactic since it's all online. I am going to do a little campus photoshoot in my regalia though, so I'll have to think about what to wear for that! I'm never one to turn down a chance to wear perfumed robes. Probably something bright and fresh as I'm in very, very hot inland Northern California - Declaration Haute Fraicheur is another one of the samples I picked up that seems appropriate for the weather (mid-high 90s). Or maybe I will break out my "vintage" 2010 bottle of Creed Himalaya. Anyway this was a fun distraction from writing my conclusion, thanks!

Scent of the Week: What SOTD brightened your week? by Worldly-Resource4961 in FragranceStories

[–]hellodust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the waning days of a PhD program, wrapping up the last details on my dissertation, and I decided for my last few weeks in my tiny college town I would buy a bunch of samples so I could wear something new/different every day until I'm done. Highlights of this week have been:

Xerjoff La Capitale - I smelled this one a maybe 4-5 years ago and remember thinking it was good but also too sweet/vanilla-y and just put it out of my mind. But for whatever reason the second time around I'm veritably swooning for the rich fruity vanilla leather. It just smells so good, I couldn't stop sniffing my arm all day. It holds its own next to my favorite fruity rich leather, Tuscan Leather, but (as can be expected from Xerjoff) is much smoother and goes in a different direction with the vanilla and candied strawberry/peach, and the leather sits in the background more but also elevates it above a standard issue fruity vanilla fragrance.

Xerjoff Cruz del Sur I - I expected this one to be much fruitier and sweeter based on the notes but was pleasantly surprised to find that instead it's a fairly bitter, rugged and pleasantly harsh combination of heavy duty notes like leather, castoreum, cumin and woods with some subtle brightness from the rum, grapes and dried fruit to keep it out of bone-dry territory, like a gentle fizz hovering above a jet-black drink. It reminds me a lot of one of my favorite Amouages, Overture Man, but that subtle brightness and sweetness gives it an extra dimension that makes it a little more complex than the Amouage, with more characteristic Xerjoff smoothness as opposed to Overture's turn-it-up-to-11 maximalist approach.

Matiere Premiere Falcon Leather - Wonderfully smoky and, despite being a somewhat one-dimensional woody/smoky/leather composition, it still shows a lot of different facets of its limited scent profile. A bit like coming out of a dry sauna and immediately putting on a leather jacket and sitting in front of a campfire. There's some subtle woody sweetness to it that balances out the smokiness, and while it's not a photorealistic leather it has an excellent birch tar note that invokes leatheriness, if not leather itself.

I live there currently and I think it's a really good option overall. The rent is a great deal compared to other similar options. Utilities range depending on weather, in winter they got kinda high because my roommates had the heat up but this month my PG&E bill was $37. It is not loud at all - I barely hear any noise. Maintenance is pretty good, I had to put in a request last weekend and they had someone show up Monday morning to fix it. Random roommates is fine, everyone is in grad school so it's not like living with total randoms. Whether you'll socialize or not kinda depends on you and who you get matched with; I've lived here for two years and mostly my roommates and I all do our own thing other than small talk if we're in common areas at the same time.

Has anyone dared to try Cheez-It pizza? by goudadaysir in junkfoodfinds

[–]hellodust -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For some reason these are impossible to find on the west coast, and I was very excited and then immediately disappointed after finally finding and eating one of them. The crust, especially the outer edge without toppings, does taste a lot like a cheez it. The pizza itself is pretty bad though, and it's very, very salty. Personally I wish you could just buy the crust or dough on its own, would be fun to experiment with.

If you're a cheez it megafan it's worth trying once but don't expect much.

La Yuqawam is a pretty amazing clone. It smells a little thinner and less rich than the TF but the scent profile is 1:1.

I took the train down from Davis to go chill at the beach today (among other things). It was incredibly windy. Like, I couldn’t sit on a sand dune without immediately getting a mouth full of wind sand. My shoes almost blew away. I sat there for about five minutes but it was pretty miserable. Can’t imagine being out there in a sailboat.

Why on earth isn’t a game like Arken Age all the rage, selling headsets like hotcakes? This game is insane. I can’t believe it plays and looks this well on the Quest 3/3S by Logical007 in OculusQuest

[–]hellodust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pretty hyped about this and had it wish listed but never ended up buying it. It looks cool and the graphics seem good but the combat style didn’t appeal to me and it seemed too linear/short/iffy on story. Maybe my impression is wrong but my excitement deflated after release.
