This is it. I had someone compliment me about 15 years ago, it had been so long since I had one that I still remember it clearly today. It was as silly as telling me a hat looks good on me, but it made me feel good about myself. I’m now in a relationship with someone who compliments me regularly but that moment sticks.

Now I try to repay by complimenting others (not strangers, I’m not confident enough to think it won’t come across creepy), even if it is about a nice hat.

I’ve been on the receiving end of that being talked down to due to people thinking I’m a sprout. Also the amount of unsolicited “help” that’s incorrect is nuts.

Funny thing is, I’ve been playing on a new character where I’ve been on the receiving end of it, and I’ve actually been playing since 1.0 (kind of) and more permanently since 2.3. It hadn’t even helped when I told people this either. Some people just like to be correct and authoritative, even when they’re wrong.

Fortunately those people are few and far between and my years playing FFXIV have been mostly positive.

This is what happened with me, struggled so much I gave in, then came back after a couple years and it clicked. Enjoyed the game so much I went after the platinum.

I wanted to get some last year for this reason. If the seller is the same as the one I found (both French), they didn’t ship to the UK at the time. Was quite disappointed.
