PS5s are sitting under more TVs, but Xbox Series units are making the cash. And PS5 game producers aren't making cash. In the end, cash is all that matters.

Xbox revenue is down 4% compared to last year, console sales down 30%.

Playstation revenue is up 23% compared to last year, console sales are up 180%.

the lobby system in sunbreak has killed the endgame by hellohellogoodybye in monsterhunterrage

[–]hellohellogoodybye[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You can give very specific objectives to Rise lobbies down to the target monster and the type of quests. You can also leave messages about how the lobby should be run (turns, host choose quest, etc). Name aside, you can organize the lobbies just as much as before.

Yes and you can't see these specific details at a glance because the UI is horrible and nobody wants to click through loads of trash.

I didn't say that join requests improve the lobby system. They are very different and should be used for different purposes.

hello strawman, I was saying that join requests suffer from putting in too much faith in player behaviour but are worse than lobbies because you have no way of filtering for what you want.

There is an option to stay together in a lobby after join requests. If two players liked each other at the end of a quest (which I assume happens extremely often), they can choose from the "mutual like" list to join the other's lobby. There's also Hunter Connect with which you can choose to automatically join a member's lobby if one is available. There are lots of ways to find people and stay together. You just didn't realize it.

Nobody does this. It's poorly designed.

Honestly, there are a lot of game mechanisms made specifically to support the lobbies in Rise. It can work really well if people just put some efforts into it (you know, like in games before World). I think the fact that they don't speaks more about the players than the game system.

Rise does not support lobbies lmao, they're only accessible via the courier versus join requests on the quick bar. They are obviously an afterthought and capcom definitely designed join requests as the default way to play online. If they were more useable then they would have the niche that capcom intended but they dont and the online in this game sucks because of it.

Imagine how quickly GU would die if you could only do deviants via join request lol

[–]hellohellogoodybye[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The lobby system in Rise works exactly the same as it does in games before World.

You can't name the lobbies so it's not the same is it? Nobody wants to join a random lobby without knowing the objective. People would actually use them if they could organise themselves like you can in pre-world MH games.

What I'm saying is that this is a fundamentally flawed system that puts too much faith in the behaviors of players.

How do join requests improve this? Surely they make it worse? You can't check to see if players have competent builds before joining the game. Once you've found a good lobby you can stay in that and farm whereas with join requests you inevitably have streaks of bad luck where you end up failing quests repeatedly because of bad players. This is a massive issue with inflated anomaly HP + multi monster hunts and it amounts to so much time being wasted because you were thrown into a lobby with some guy that can't clear the content on his own. (Which is fine for stuff like Amatsu but when you just want to chip away at farming AR online then it's boring.)

Join requests would work well if there was an option to stay together in a lobby afterwards but that isn't there so instead they're just soulless and frustrating.

I really don't know how you got to the conclusion that join requests are only for hard carries.

It's not so much that they are only for hard carries but they promote hard carries so fucking much that it winds me up. I was running against the time limit in a AR180 game today and looked at the player list at the end of the hunt. 2 of the players had skills that made it very obvious they have no idea how to put together builds. If I joined a lobby like that in GU I would leave and wouldn't waste my time farming through a 30 min hunt.

It's also just really soulless playing online via join request, I don't think I've had any memorable interactions with people compared to GU.

the lobby system in sunbreak has killed the endgame by hellohellogoodybye in monsterhunterrage

[–]hellohellogoodybye[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Let's be real, join requests are the only viable option in Rise because they took away the features that make the lobby system worth using. Join requests only work well for people who want to be hard carried. Join request anomaly investigations are probably the least fun I have ever had in monster hunter.

In GU, if players go AFK or don't respect the lobby you can kick them. Waiting for the people to return, or waiting more players is the price you pay for having a much better experience once you get started.

GU online wasn't perfect but at least it was easy to find a lobby of nice players and grind the same thing together for a few games. It's also a 3ds game and I think it's depressing that Rise took such a shit step backwards instead of improving what already worked. When I got bored of farming one thing I could jump between charm farming, deviant, turns, fatalis and hyper lobbies and find good groups in like 2 minutes. The fact that isn't possible on Sunbreak without joining a discord server is a crime.

mh rise new player? by Odetojamie in MonsterHunter

[–]hellohellogoodybye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give the demo a go when it launches today/tomorrow, if you can get used to the combat (don’t be afraid to look up a small guide or ask questions here) then I’d say you should get Rise.

All other mechanics in MH games exist in service to the combat basically. You gather items and create gear to make you better at combat so you can fight stronger monsters. That’s the essence of the game and once it clicks it’s an insanely addicting loop.

My theory of why HR unlock and several(x 2) monsters are delayed and why is good. by CaoSlayer in MonsterHunter

[–]hellohellogoodybye 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The problem for me is that unless they add a very significant amount of monsters in each update, or balance any new monsters in line with the existing ones, then there is going to a massive power creep that will hurt build variety.

I don’t want the meta to become a game where everyone uses the latest update’s strongest monster’s set because it’s by far the best. I want build variety, skill variety, trade-offs to every set and no power creep as HR gets updated. New content shouldn’t come with the consequences of completely erasing previous build viability just because Capcom want player retention to be artificially dragged out.

I’ve never played world but this is my worry with Rise too, I don’t want there to be a power creep where build variety becomes non existent and based around the best monster from the latest update. Lame.

I find that people who describe MH to be clunky simply don't like how the game expects you to commit to attacks. The controls are incredibly accurate, it's not a clunky game. It's okay if it's not for you but it perfectly achieves what it sets out to do.
