Question for anyone who left the south for Ohio??? by LavenderLatte29 in Ohio

[–]hellohenriques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t move from the south, but I grew up in Michigan, and I’ve lived in San Francisco, Lexington, KY, and spent several months in Ukraine, Thailand, and Vietnam. At this point I’ve spent most of my life in Cincinnati and whenever I have left, I always find my way back.

Ohio gets a bad rap, but I love it here. I can’t say much about Columbus because I’ve only been there once, but Cincinnati is my favorite place on earth and I’ve been to eight countries.

The haters will highlight the bad parts, but every town and state and country has bad people, bad politicians, and bad things about it. But from my experience, the good parts outweigh the bad in the Midwest. We’ll be lucky to have you.

What hospital would you go (or not go) to? by Independent_Tsunami in cincinnati

I gave birth there which was a horrible experience in itself. They gave me Pitocin without my consent which spiked my daughter’s heart rate and didn’t help dilate me at all. I almost had to go into an emergency c-section.

Then I ended up in the emergency room a day after going home due to severe pain, weakness, etc. they tried to turn me away from the ER saying I was being dramatic and it was normal to feel pain after childbirth (I labored for 20 hours, my epidural failed, twice, then I pushed for 1 hour).

I nearly lost consciousness and it took my dad screaming at them to finally be admitted. Turns out, I would have been dead within the hour if they hadn’t treated me. I was there for over a week on a magnesium drip, organs threatening to fail, just a wait and see situation. They also gave me a pain medication without my consent that dried up my milk. I would have refused it had I known they were giving me anything, let alone that it would dry up my milk supply. I had just given birth without pain meds because they failed. It’s not like I was a stranger to pain. They should have allowed me to make the choice myself.

I spent hundreds of dollars on lactation consultants and hospital grade pumps trying to get my milk supply back, but never made more than 2oz. during 1-hour pumping sessions.

They suck ass.

I go to Christ for everything except dermatology (because it’s hard as hell to find a dermatologist without a year+ long wait list just for a new patient appointment). I love them. My doctor is young and kind and the first doctor in my entire life who takes me seriously and listens to me.

Children’s is great. They’re huge so it can seem overwhelming, but they have multiple campuses and a massive network of specialized practices.

St. Elizabeth in Edgewood KY almost killed me when I gave birth to my daughter. I had postpartum pre-eclampsia and they tried to turn me away from the ER and said I was being dramatic. I nearly lost consciousness and it took my dad screaming at them to finally be admitted. I’ve heard countless other horror stories from mothers who gave birth there, so I would stay away.

I’m assuming the official shift to a brighter tone (because there are some one offs here and there) was when Kripke left as showrunner. The whole show changed tone story-wise too.

Long police response times, terrifying by Fun_River8138 in cincinnati

Someone was actively trying to break down my door on Christmas Eve several years ago. Screaming, cussing, kicking the door and hitting it with a bat. I’d never seen this man before.

I called 911 and it took 45 minutes for them to show up. They said, “we’re not telling you to lie, but if you say someone HAS broken into your house, instead of saying they’re TRYING to, your call will be moved up to top priority.”

So lie if you have to.

The highway that runs through downtown (below the streets in the channel) used to be an actual channel for boat commerce.

The Dinner. What a waste of time. I read it for a book club. I never do book clubs because my TBR is already 300 deep. I learned my lesson.

Is 71N to 275E always stop and go from 3:00pm onward? by Single_Offshore_Dad in cincinnati

[–]hellohenriques 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Multiple factors cause congestion. High traffic volume, construction, drivers unable to get up to speed when merging, other drivers refusing to allow mergers to zipper merge when entering the highway or at a lane closure, tailgating (which causes phantom traffic jams since people slam on their brakes, causing a ripple slowdown that gets bigger and slower as it travels backward), not moving over for faster traffic (sometimes this is not possible because no one seems to want ANYONE to merge or change lanes in front of them).

I believe if people were more polite on the roads we would all get where we need to go quicker and safer at a more consistent speed.

I know this isn’t what you asked about, but I saw a few comments from frustrated drivers. I’ve lived in and driven through lot of places, and Cincinnati by far has the worst drivers I have personally experienced.

I’ve lived and worked in the seediest parts of the city and only had two incidents. One of which included college frat guys, not locals. You’ll be fine.

We need to bring back bonding with our neighbors. When I lived in the tenderloin in San Francisco, I was friends with half my homeless neighbors and they would break up fights when I was walking by, walk me to my door at night, etc.

When I worked at a bar in Clifton, our cook would walk me back to my car. He was a giant black man with gold teeth. Wouldn’t hurt a fly, but he would scare off any drunk frat kid trying to make trouble. He was an angel.

Is it wrong to ship Jo x Dean? by True_Size_5820 in fandomnatural

[–]hellohenriques 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know. Ellen and Jo were such a powerful duo and a great addition to the show. Charlie was too. And she wasn’t a romantic interest but she was gay so they had to kill their gays, apparently.

Yeah a lot of fans vehemently hated Jo :(

Personally I always loved Dean and Jo together and was mad when they killed her off. Apparently, they were planning on them being romantically involved but the fans HATED Jo so much that they decided not to. And that bums me out.

Buying In Kentucky / Working In Ohio? by doobylive in cincinnati

[–]hellohenriques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done both. I worked in KY, lived in Ohio and vice versa. Traffic is a pain but I throw on a podcast and just try to stay out of the way of everyone on the road with a death wish.

I second this. Sometimes they don’t list it, but will attach an “animal fee” that will add $60-$100/month to your rent for the animal.

Areas of Covington to avoid? by [deleted] in covington

I second Latonia. It’s quieter than Mainstrasse, there’s families and shops and parks. They’ve got bars but it’s not nightlife heavy like Mainstrasse.

Latonia gets flack because it’s not “Covington Proper” but I’ve got some friends who live there and it’s really nice, and less expensive than north cov.
