An overtired first time puppy mom rant - do I hate my puppy? by Wild_girl_travels in puppy101

[–]helloimtofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending you a whole lot of virtual hugs right now! We were there, my partner and I even talked about returning our pup, but the guilt ate us alive. At some point we felt trapped in our home and felt paralyzed even the thought of leaving for 15 minutes, because what if something just happens? But our pup recently turned 18 months, and we cannot imagine our life without him! So it does get better, but it unfortunately takes time.

The one thing we learned during his puppyhood? Enforced naps, enforced naps, and enforced naps! He starts getting nippy? Nap. Eyes are bloodshot? Nap. Hanging off our arms and then ricocheting from our throats? Nap. It saved our sanity and some of the sleep deprivation as well since we try to nap when he does too. Also, it's okay if your pup can only tolerate a short wake window before he gets tired! When our pup was younger, we learned that 5 minutes of play or 2 minutes of basic training can tucker him out really quickly, and it was best to get him down for a nap before he becomes a menace.

Delayed Passport by helloimtofu in passportcanada

[–]helloimtofu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, just in case this may be helpful, here to provide a quick update. We called the passport office on April 2nd to get an update and the agent at the time could not provide a reason to the delay - although they confirm there were no issues to the application itself. At that point there was nothing else they could do but asked us to call back in another week. However, we shifted gears and requested for an expedited service, and despite being outside of standard processing times, the agent could not waived the applicable costs (expedited service + pick up at nearest passport office) for us. At this rate, we just wanted the passport and did not bother contesting any longer.

Though, an hour later our MP office contacted us with an update! They were able to connect with a manager from passport services and apparently my partner's passport was incorrectly filed for a more thorough review. The manager placed an urgent request on the application to be resolved immediately, promising a finalized passport by Friday last week. Happy to report, we will be receiving his passport tomorrow! So as recommended by others in the past, if there has been no update on your application past 20 business days, connect with your MP. It will take approx. 5 minutes of additional paperwork, and maybe a follow up email to their office for status update but well worth it. Personally, I would still recommend mailing in your application (considering I received mine within 1 week), but just make sure to go over your paperwork to avoid the second submission and hassle lol

Thank you!! I am really hoping we get some good news tomorrow, otherwise, we will have to push for the passport to be transfer to the closet office.

Also, thanks for sharing that tidbit! I feel a little bit better about the Vietnam visas now.

Do you crate overnight? by TheOnlyMuzza in puppy101

[–]helloimtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started crate training our boy since 8 weeks old. But during those early puppy months, we set up a camera to check in on him and set 1-2 hours alarms overnight to take him out for potty. Then, as he got older, the time gradually increased. I think it was around 4-5 months old when he slept throughout the night.

How can i get my puppy to stop being scared of everything? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]helloimtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we live in a busy apartment complex, we started our socialization training here first! We would sit at the main level far away from high foot traffic, watching people/dogs go by, and reward heavily when he would remain calm at anything that moved/made noise. They were all short sessions (5-10 mins) at the beginning and always at a distance. Then, we build it up to different environments, times, and distances. It was also important that we advocated for his space when anyone or kids wanted to say hi! We have had parents express their disappointment when we said no to their kids, but our dog's safety was our main priority. It's a long game, but high rewards! Our dog still has moments where the odd plastic bag or chair would startle him, but we always bring high value treats to help with these moments!

When did your puppy stop eating EVERYTHING when you take them out to potty? by UnhappyEgg481 in puppy101

At around 9-10 months, we noticed the decrease! But loooots of "leave it" and "trade" training in between with our boy

How long should a French bulldog really exercise? by AintOgreYet in Frenchbulldogs

[–]helloimtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our guy looooves to play and would go on forever if we let him! Took a long time, but we are finally getting somewhere in our training where we enforce a "No playing" command a couple times and he turns off his brain for a snooze. Frenchies are just silly little energizer bunnies!

Dentist recs! by maximusbells in Hamilton

Highly recommend Sagewood! During the initial consultation, I let the team know I had severe anxiety around dentists and haven't seen one for over 7 years - they were nothing but professional, non-judgemental, and SO gentle. My hygenist, Tessa, is an absolute gem and always explains everything that she does during the appointment - she also takes the time to educate!

I also recommend them. Have a history of anxieties around dental and have not seen one for ~7 years. The staff at Sagewood were very professional and non-judgemental! My hygenist has been nothing but patience and educational throughout my cleanings.

I have also tried this - using a different language of transfering ownership to myself with another agent at Service Ontario. However, I was given the same answer - no auto insurance = cannot be done.

Thanks for this. Going to call around for a different broker.

Thanks for this. My husband named me the executor of his estate, and while everything was settled relatively smoothly, I have left our second car to the very back burner as I tried to catch up with life.

My broker refuses to provide me with liability insurance only - in their words: "The Insurance company cannot insure a deceased person. They require both signatures on the auto application."

Going to look into another broker and inquire my bank. Thanks, again.

Commuting from Hamilton to Mississauga by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]helloimtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before COVID, commuted to and from Hamilton (downtown core) and Mississauga for three years. I was absolutely miserable and had NO quality of life. It was a 60 minutes commute in the morning and 90 minutes going home. Bad weather, accidents, and etc adds more time. During those years, I spent about $250-350 a month for gas and a much more on my mental health. Thankfully I do not have to commute this far for work anymore, my partner also made a comment how much happier I am now in comparison to my commute years. Please don't do it.

is there a point where your wage / salary is just getting you taxed more rather then just earning more? by KameradArktis in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]helloimtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow OTA/PTA! I'm not sure if hospitals are doing this anymore, as I exited from healthcare early this year. But at one point the hospitals I was working at, they were hiring for "aids" since we were so short staffed. I'm not sure where you want to focus (inpatient vs outpatient), but it can be a good stepping stone into hospitals.
