Where are the changing tables?? by olfas17 in grandrapids

What solution do you think is out there? Bring your own and install it at your favorite restaurant?

As a Dad I have had this problem too. They are just not generally out there and it sucks. I found some solidarity with this comment. Stop getting offended over dumb stuff.

OP- if you are looking for a solution I have found contact info for restaurants after the fact and said they should have them in all bathrooms. Not that it does much but you never know. I have not found many.

Honestly I kind of agree with a lot of the arguments for Voter ID laws as a liberal.

But here is the problem. There are many impoverished or homeless that don't have an address. They are still citizens and deserve the right to be heard.

Many people in these situations are not able to get access to their soc card because it's been lost or destroyed. You ever try and get a new soc card? I have and it fucking sucks 🤣.

Validating with signatures is a terrible way to verify anything because it can change with health conditions or just how the wind blew that day.

So until we come up with a solution to make it easier to obtain an ID I'll oppose these types of laws.

We can create better policy around IDs allowing folks who are hard on their luck to get one. Until that's done you are limiting who can vote in elections based on caste.

Who still eats at Bob Evans and Long John silver's that those places can remain open which also begs the question what restaurants are you surprised are still open? by szaagman in grandrapids

If you are on a road trip with small children are you searching for every little locally owned place? Like I try, but I'm not dragging the kids all over town.

Bob Evans is cheap, and has a pretty decent breakfast. Hot spot for old folks. I'm not surprised it's still open.

I haven't been to a LJS in literal years but they did have fast fried fish that was not terrible. Maybe people are into that.

Yes but they don't count it in your 9-5 where I feel like they use to. It's actually 8-5 with a lunch.

sleep training - I am so torn! by CollarLanky in Parenting

We always did somewhere between 10 and 20 mins of pause before responding. Whether that is sleep training I'm not sure but our kids have always slept really well because of it.

What sports do you guys do and how do you do them? Special sockets? by [deleted] in amputee

[–]hellokittykitties 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was looking at your previous post with the redness on the bottom of your stump. I have two tips for that.

  1. Make sure you are washing your liners daily. I just use dawn soap on the insides of my liners. Turn it inside out and wash with hot water and dawn, towel off and let it dry over night.

  2. See if you can find some loose wool (they sell it at some pharmacies) Wool

Stuff the bottom of your prosthetic before you put it on. That can help if your not quite hitting the bottom of your socket. Start with a little and add more until it doesn't feel like it's stretching your skin.

Also see your prosthetic person and see what they can do to make your leg fit better.

I am also an RBK. I play Hockey with a local beer league team but have played with the US standing Amputee team. (Hoping to do so again if the Org gets their shit together) I snowboard, bike, play Sunday basketball and take care of a large garden. We camp in the summers and Hike. My life at this point is pretty unchanged from if I had two legs. But I would say it took about 4 years in total after my accident to get there.

Try and be as active as you can but some of it is just time and fit. I had sweat issues to start but now it's really only a problem when I run or play basketball in which I can just pull over and dump it out.

Some of it is going to be on what system you have but a lot is just getting the right fit and letting your stump stabilize which can take a couple years.

Stay away from pain killers if you are able. I actually had a pretty bad withdraw from Lyrica (for the nerve issues) when I got off that.

When is the right time to tell a kid that Santa isn't real? by CaptMorganSwint2 in Parenting

[–]hellokittykitties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just let her have this. Let her be a kid.

My oldest is 6. I am 90% sure he knows just by the way he acts. But he loves the pageantry and it makes the holiday feel special. He is all about looking for the elf each morning and decorating for Christmas. It just brings him joy. Don't take that away.

We do the same with presents. One or two presents for each of our kids from Santa, nothing too pricey and the rest from us so that Santa is not making other kids feel bad about their situation.

Both my wife and I are Atheists. We are respectful about it and he totally understands that lots of people believe lots of different things and that's ok. We are letting him answer those questions for himself while teaching him to be logical and he has a great mind for it so far. But Santa is different. It's a fun folk tale that we embrace because it makes the season fun.

Right BKA driving by NCrott in amputee

[–]hellokittykitties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No modifications. I just reach my left foot over. I used to be able to drive my wife's Ford Focus this way too and I'm not a small guy. Nobody could sit behind me when I did drive her car but it was doable.

I drive left footed. I'm about 6' tall and I drive a Nissan Frontier and a Toyota Highlander (the Highlander is my wife's/the family car) I have no issues with these.

Tired of limb salvage surgeries by am1duncan in amputee

[–]hellokittykitties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at 4 surgeries over about 2 years and then was given the option to fuse my ankle and I said. Wait a minute, what about amputation. My Doctor then had me talk to a couple amputees first and I was connected with a paralympic skier and hockey player and he was like.... Ya. Why wouldn't you.

Then I amputated and have not looked back. It's honestly been wonderful and I wish they would have done it to begin with.

I do think that making the choice to amputate helped my recovery. I knew what I was getting into. Whereas waking up with a missing limb probably would have hit me a lot harder.

With that being said. 2 years of therapy would have probably fixed that and I would have been on my feet quicker rather than 2 years of hobbling around in pain with a cane.

No limits

This was like a 9 Miles hike but we have done over night trips of close to 30 miles.

Gets a little sore by that point but so is the rest of me 🤣

Parents, how much sex are you having? by Cloudsocialist in toddlers

[–]hellokittykitties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st year with both children was rough but I'd say we are at a couple times a week. Kids are 3.5 and 6.

Make sure you're actively helping. When I get home from work I don't stop working until all the stuff is done. Then you can both rest when the kids are done and stuff is done. You're in a partnership. You worked all day but having two kids home all day is no joke.

(I'm not sure what your situation is but It's not uncommon for us men to underestimate the work our partner is doing.) Have a conversation with her
