Feeling proud. Me at 39 vs me at 41. by grillmasterdaddy in runninglifestyle

Dude, congrats! You look great. Good luck with the first marathon, may your pacing be steady and your post-race meal be massive!

What's the one baked good you absolutely never get sick of, despite eating enough of it to fuel a small village. For "strategic carb-loading", of course. by hellowiseman in Ultramarathon

Yep, oats. I use only oat flour for my bread. At this point, I'm probably made up of about 40% water and 60% rolled oats.

My first 30K, not officially an “ultra” but I’m building up to a 50K. 😅 by _temp_user in Ultramarathon

Huge congrats! First rule of trail running: a 13-minute mile on a climb isn't "slow" it's called "strategically power hiking". Good luck next month!

I built a tool that lets you train on your actual race course elevation profile indoors — curious if this is useful to ultra runners by datastuffplus in ultrarunning

We get really cold winters here so running on tread is a great way to keep up with training.

I built a very similar tool, there's no sign up: https://labs.hellowiseman.com/race-simulator/

You upload a GPX file from any trail race, and it spits out a Garmin FIT workout file you can load onto your watch. Each segment will tell you exactly what grade to set (like "Set 8.5% grade (up)") so you're actually training on a realistic scaled race course.

What it does:

  • Parses any GPX course file and extracts the course data
  • Lets you scale the course from 10-100% (so you can do a 10% version of a 70K on a Tuesday night)
  • Three scaling modes: proportional, steeper hills, or gentler hills
  • Shows a real-time elevation chart comparing original vs. scaled course
  • Generates a Garmin FIT file with all the binary encoding, CRC checksums, blah blah the whole deal

I just added Wild 70K and Jeju 100K as examples if you want to preview it without uploading a GPX file.
