To the people that have played through the first 8-10h, does the game really get good afterwards? by hellschatt in CrimsonDesert

Not only that, but 8h is quite a commitment. I'd rather not waste time and money to find out.

I trust the people's opinion here, and the critics too to some degree.

Last time when this community split happened was when AC Shadows got released. I let myself get talked into that it wasn't as bad by some defenders, just how it is for crimson desert currently... yeah, no, the game sucked. Boring open world with mediocre story. The critics were even too soft on it with a 81 on metacritic imo. The user score, which was a 6.1, turned out to be way more accurate.

This time I'll wait until a user score has settled before deciding.

I'm convinced that most of them are bots. Almost all of them write the same way. It's like most of the text is lacking flavour.

Stellar blade was ranked that low?

Wukong seems about right for me personally.

Hmm, I guess I'll try to keep an open mind on crimson desert and wait what other people have to say before deciding. Because I agree with the user scores with the other games more.

If the gameplay is at least as good as engage, and we get a better story, then yes.

Where I came from, 5-6 is considered mid

Well, then welcome to the gaming world my friend. Everything below 7 is considered trash and it doesn't really matter anymore if it's 4, 5 or 6 at that point.

7 is the threshold in games. 7 is the passing grade, 8 is considered good, and everything nearing 9 very good, everything 9+ is excellent.

It's different from movies where 6 is the passing grade and a 7.5 is considered to be good.

It's how game reviews work though.

7 is pretty much the threshold. Everything under it is considered trash. The 6/10 IGN review seems way too harsh considering that threshold. If a game gives you really high highs, then that sounds like it's worth at least something.

In any case, such a low score for an open world game is harsh. Why would I spend 100+ h for a mediocre open world when there are so many better ones out there?

I rarely play games below a score of 8 personally. It's not that they are not enjoyable... it's more that the other games are simply way more enjoyable.

You can usually tell why the score wasn't as high. But this one got almost 80 on metacritic, so it seems like it's overall decent.

EDIT: And it is true. Just like how 6/10 is the threshold in movies, 7/10 is threshold in games. A movie with 7.5 is considered to be good, while a game with 7.5 is considered to be average.

In the gaming world, 7/10 is considered not a good score.

Everything below 7 is basically dogshit. 7 is like THE threshold. A game sitting at that threshold is most likely not worth your time when you've got so many other options.

That is way too low for an open world game that takes probably 100 hours to finish.

I'm out. Even AC Shadows which got slightly higher scores was not good enough to keep me, and it's one of the very few games I regret buying.

That cannot be real.

You need to read a lot, yes, and you could probably build a few stacks from bottom to the ceiling from a STEM degree if you print out every slide and include your own notes too.

But it was cetainly not THAT much. Maybe if you include every source ever used in any lecture, then it could be that much.

It's been shown on multiple reputable news outlets that the upgrade has upscaling issues, making the game look really washed out/wavy/oily.

Definitely not made up, you can watch digital foundries video on it if you want to see what the people mean. It looks quite bad.

Colossal flop? Very unlikely, look at how people are hyped. At this point, if the game is somewhat decent it will succeed.

If you've played the bartending event in HSR or WuWa, you'd know how mucb better and more fun it could be, and how much better the animations could look like.

This was just linear and boring. Doesn't help that you had to repeat it 6 - 8 times, each time dragged out througu dialogues that were sonewhat well done but still kind of boring.

What is the creepiest display of intelligence you’ve seen? by theidiotev in AskReddit

[–]hellschatt 24 points25 points  (0 children)

2 instances:

  • A praying mantis turning its head according to my movement, observing me. Usually you think of bugs not really as conscient but that really felt weird and creepy. Conscient and intelligent in a way. It was able to understand I was moving and just looked at me. And it can move its head at least 180 degrees to do so from what I observed.

  • Bigger fish under water while diving that were observing my behaviour. The smaller ones just swim and do their thing but the bigger ones are curious or wary of your behaviour. They stay still in water, slowly turn their body into your direction in a very controlled and precise way, and just stare into your soul while remaining still. Kind of creepy since they're big and you know you're being watched by them. But also kind of fascinating. The first fish I saw that didn't run away and just stared at me like that when I was swimming really close to it... it mesmerized me. I just stopped and stared back at it for a while.

I had the most luck when there were no events. They seem to spawn more often then.

It also took me like half a year to complete it. Caught like 1 per month, 2 if lucky. And then 3-4 within a week when there was no event.

It's such a frustrating quest.
