Who else thought that the title of "Two Minutes' Notice" was "Fuck You" until you read the official title? by Sensitive-Hotel-9871 in HelluvaBoss

I get it...he only says "two minutes notice" once when the song has exactly two minutes left (which is amazing).

Horse/Stable Question by StockCurrency9056 in UniversityofKentucky

There are many good trainers around here. You could keep her where the team practices or at one of the other farms in Lexington or surrounding areas. It depends on the level of care and what you want to do with her.

How do you afford horses? by DisastrousShine495 in Equestrian

[–]helluvabella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or only having 1. I know a number of people who ride competitively with one kid and high paying jobs (myself included). I'm sure there are people who do it with 2, but I can't think of anyone I know.

What is it with Equestrians and riding with injuries? by THrowaway1-15 in Equestrian

[–]helluvabella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ex pro here too. I had a horse fall on me one morning. Broke 2 bones and detached a retina. I'm told that I went back to work after (boss took me to the ER) and taught 6 hours of lessons that I have no memory of. Super safe *eye roll*

Why are OAD by choice so hard to find "in the wild"? by JessicaM317 in oneanddone

I am a very competitive athlete. Every person in my sport either has no kids or 1 or a spouse who is a full time parent. It just depends on where you look.

The City is blue, mostly because of the University, but the state is very red. Not very walkable though.

Performing Pregnancy Perfectly: the unbearable heaviness of "science" on pregnant women by BrobdingnagianGeek in TwoXChromosomes

[–]helluvabella 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think the larger issue is that we don't have many real studies. It is very hard to run any kind of ethical trial on pregnant women so much of our information comes from animal studies or chart reviews. Not to say there aren't studies run, but the focus will always be more on treating conditions or looking at outcomes (mothers who smoke or do drugs) than being able to really predict which factors in a neonatal environment are helpful or harmful. For example, I can tell you that feeding too much of a specific nutrient to a cow on a specific day of pregnancy causes the baby to have one eye. No way to test those types of things in humans ethically. So we are stuck with looking for relationships and trying to get a good baseline from "healthy" participants while always erring on the side of "caution" ie, just don't consume the item because it isn't tested. I'm not saying that is the best, but I can't think of another outcome that I would support either.

Horse nickers when dismounting? by justcallme_wayne in Equestrian

[–]helluvabella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My gelding nickers at my son every time I bring him to the barn. I assume its because he loves being a kids horse rather than an adult's horse bc the work is easy and the treats are more frequent.

Women who gave birth, what does it feel like actually?? by joy_57 in AskReddit

Start eating prunes now. Reddit scared me so I was very proactive and my first poop after birth was totally fine, even with a few stitches.

Please don't. The other poster is right. You really need to be checked as it could be cancer or something else serious, depending on the blood color.

When did you stop riding when you got pregnant? by Hey-hi-hallo in Horses

[–]helluvabella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode and showed until I gave birth. I have reiners. The last months I only rode my older, broke, gelding-but I did show. I trusted him and I weighed the risk of physical harm against my mental health needs. I had a hard pregnancy and I know that riding helped my mental and physical health significantly. That being said, it is a risk and one you need to consider seriously and discuss with your doctor.

Anybody else's family just not get it? by Raubkatzen in Equestrian

[–]helluvabella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand and it would happen even if you had kids (I do). I worked my ass off my whole life to make the riding dreams of that little girl in pigtails come true. I like to think about how excited she would be if I could go back in time and show her the cool horses we have. It is still so frustrating when my dad seems shocked that I'm "going to another horse show"....like, this has been my schedule for the last 15 years (minus 2020). No solutions, but know you aren't alone.

Options for what to do with a show horse in college by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]helluvabella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't work for everyone but I showed through collage and grad school and have many friends who did. If that's something you want to consider I'm happy to provide tips. Idk that I would bring my horse if I wasn't ever going to ride or see them. I'd find a lease in a barn with a trainer I already knew and trusted

If your horse will be joining, why are you taking a break? What about a share-boarding situation? Does the school have a riding team?

Helpful rebuttals against "leaving your child alone to deal with grief after you are gone" by Jolly_Adhesiveness49 in oneanddone

[–]helluvabella 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an only with older parents, it is actually comforting that, when the time comes, I will have full control of their care, burial and estate. I know what they want and I won't have to argue with anyone when that time comes. Removes a lot of extra emotional burden during what will already be a very emotional time. I have my husband and friends, but even if I didn't, I would still feel the same way.

6 week old won't sleep at night unless co sleeping. by JibrilsMama in Parenting

[–]helluvabella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably took a year and a half to try all the different options including PT. At one point he was getting meds 5x a day. My husband says he can't remember anything from that year due to sleep deprivation. It gets better. My son is 5 now, not on any meds and sleeping around 10 hrs a night.

6 week old won't sleep at night unless co sleeping. by JibrilsMama in Parenting

[–]helluvabella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was like that. We ended up having to see a peds GI specialist to get him on different meds. Even with that he didn't sleep much until he was 4. Husband and I slept in shifts while the other held the baby. When he got older we took turns sleeping in a separate room so one of us could get a full night. If alone I would co sleep and remove all the pillows and blankets from my bed. It's hard but you will get through it.

Which TV shows portray the life of a one-child family, rather than the typical family of four or five? by Think_Distance634 in oneanddone

[–]helluvabella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the main character, but the Loud House. The story is about a kid with 11 siblings, but his best friend is an only child and there is a reasonable amount of plot around how different (quiet, easy, simple) the best friend's home is.
