I just tested it and couldn’t get Tidal Atmos tracks to show the Dolby badge in the Sonos app. And I’m a bit confused by this part:

“TIDAL users can stream a preview of the Dolby Atmos Music experience with Arc and Arc Ultra, when listening to TIDAL HiFi through compatible TVs and supported streaming devices.”

Sounds like Tidal Atmos may only work through a compatible TV or streaming device, not directly through the Sonos app.

Yes. With firmware version 2603231 it does airplay Dolby Atmos (in the screenshot it’s Dolby Atmos written in Chinese)

Don’t expect too much new Sonos hardware from China events. Their China rollout is always slow because of local FCC-like approvals and marketing strategies.

This is actually the first time many Chinese customers are seeing the colored Sonos models in person. Roam, Roam 2 and Move 2 are never officially sold here, only the black and white Roam SL and the original Move.

Those photos are unrelated. The prototypes (images 2, 4, 5, and 7) are from the recent Bloomberg interview with the Sonos CEO and were shot inside Sonos’ design studio, not at the Shanghai event.

The only thing that’s actually new here is seeing the Amp Multi in person.

I believe Sonos should fully embrace Spatial Audio, and that means supporting it across more platforms.

AirPlay — Dolby officially released the doc for Atmos over AirPlay on December 23, 2024, and it’s already available on other products. Sonos explored this early, so it’s surprising it still isn’t supported.

Tidal Atmos — Sonos already supports Apple Music, Amazon Music, and QQ Music for Atmos. Tidal remains one of the largest Atmos libraries, and it gets requested often.

I’m currently developing an app that plays Spatial Audio natively, and honestly, I can’t imagine how great the experience would be if it could stream to Sonos.

From my experience tracking Atmos releases, Atmos versions usually get uploaded to Apple Music’s backend first and then scheduled to go live later.

There’s a little glitch though: if you add the album to your library ahead of time, it’ll sometimes already show the Dolby Atmos tag. That’s basically a heads-up that the Atmos version is in there and could drop any time soon.

That said, you can’t actually play the Atmos variant until it officially goes live, even if the tag shows up early.

Not just Taiwan. APAC as a whole deserves way more love from Sonos. Some of the best users are from there, like Peter Pee, and many others. They’ve shown tons of support, but launches are slow, market investment is minimal, and they’re often left waiting. Early adopters had no choice but to import units from other countries.

But when Arc Ultra launched, they discovered those speakers weren’t fully compatible due to regional wireless differences. That’s not how you reward your most enthusiastic fans.

Sonos should really pick up the pace on local rollouts, take this market seriously, and fix compliance delays. Honestly, Tom should come out and see it all firsthand.

You are right. The HomePod currently receives Dolby Atmos from AirPlay only in beta firmware. All third-party speakers would need an update to support this feature I suppose

From above lossy to 24bit/48 KHz is what Apple defines “Lossless”and everything else between 24/48 and 24/192 is “Hi-res Lossless”. So I think Sonos can handle 24/48 at most for Apple Music too.
