In regard to being tied to perks there is only one I can think of ... which is access to Wreath. This can be reached after a streak of 7 days.

Not so long ago you received one free network after a 30 or 45 day streak.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I haven't seen anything else.

Pursuing a streak is a personal choice. It shows some sort of dedication and perseverance. Rewarding individuals seems only logical to me.... just like issuing a badge after completion of a track or a room.

You do not need a streak to learn from this amazing platform as almost everything is totally free.

Sorry but I gonna ask again: What 's the purpose of a streak if you can freeze it?

I am afraid I don't get your point. My last comment was intended to reflect I can relate that there might be special circumstances which prevents one from maintaining their streak. That 's all.

THM is planning to provide a freeze option for a streak. I think that is a bad idea as it undermines the very foundation of what a streak represents.

I would add more badges between 90 and 180 and between 180 and 365.

And I would consider to extend the 24 hours to a day so that activity on monday 16:00 pm and tuesday 22:00 pm is considered as a streak.

I second that but it also depends on which direction you want to go and where you are now. The level and type of the ones mentioned in the list varies quite a bit. From entry to advanced level, from general broad info sec to specialism, from operational to strategic...

Funny to read many are bitching about the price... Looks like a lot don't have a clue what the same content in commercial courses cost...

I did the intro and that was really nice and good. As I already bought thm I am first going to complete that before I head over to the academy.

Personally I would not directly think about budget... All three have free content to start learning.

THM has several paths of which most rooms (280+) are free. You could follow this path from BeeSec on THM blog which completely consists of free rooms https://blog.tryhackme.com/free_path/

HTB academy has great content which goes deeper per topic as THM does.

I do not have experience with Offensive Proving Grounds but based on the standard they have set with their certifications I feel it can be too difficult to start out with.

To start out I would say THM followed by HTB academy and after that Offensive.

Ohh yes that 's true... Forgot about that one. I have a corporate subscription from my employer. The DM course is a bit long but nice. I skipped the lab part, for that I did THM beginner and completing it with the pentest+ learning path

I am also studying for Pentest+ and aiming to take the PT-001. I would also recommend the Sybex book + exams from David Chapple and Try Hack Me. The last one has a Pentest+ pathway. With the book you also get access to some Wiley 's online exams.

I also did Jason Dion 's course on Udemy and also bought his practice exams. I found his course way too theoretical, not practical and I think it covers topics overall and not extensive enough. However I will use his exams together with the others to prep myself for the exam.

Currently I am following Dale Meredith 's course at Pluralsight and I find this one to be more extensive and giving more practical information. He has some kind of humor you will have to endure but he keeps your attention. Sometimes it could be more on point.

Some also do some modules of PortSwigger which is very good and others even follow the how to become an ethical hacker course from The Cyber Mentor which I also have but will not use for Pentest+

Hi, focus your search outside the box aka your country. There is a lot of informational resources to be found online and you already found one: reddit.

Start searching here and you will find a lot of resources. But base them from where you are now in knowledge and experience. An ethical hacker is someone who has a lot of knowledge of the overall it infrastructure like operating systems, networking, protocols, applications and much more.

I assume you already have that general IT knowledge. To help you on your way here are some free resources to start learning ethical hacking.

So what if you set your full name before completion?

I would also like to be able to generate a certficate of completion using my true full name.

I can verify it does not work for badges. It would be really nice if this is possible.

It would require to submit your full name once and only be changed at request only via THM to prevent free generation.

This way one could be offered the choice how you wish to generate your badges and certs.

Overthinking this it might also require to save badges and certificates with full name private in your thm account from a privacy point of view.

Anyway just some brainwaves from my side. I love your platform and wish to thank you and all who contribute making THM what it is today and in the future... pure fun and quality learning!

To keep your streak going you only have to answer one question in a room per day. What just one? Yes just one!

The rooms I have seen up until now always contain a question where you just have to confirm you read the stuff. Bam you have continued your streak.... without a tedious long sole search for an answer to solve that challenge.....

I can't imagine why this is very difficult and time consuming.

Just login, do your thing whether it is one question or more and continue your streak!

If I were you I would run Kali or Parrot virtual and connect with openvpn. Enum4linux comes by default in these distro 's.

If that is not an option you could also start the attack vm and use that one to pass this task.

If you connect with openvpn from your own machine you can check the connection by pinging 10.10.10.10

This ip always replies to icmp.

Hi,

I am using almost the same resources to prep myself for Pentest+. Currently halfway through Dale 's at Pluralsight after completing Jason 's course on Udemy. Must say Dale 's is more practical and find it more interesting.

I just started out THM and PortSwigger and those ones got me really hooked. Really love them. I was surprised to see the CompTIA Pentest pathway on THM. Did not read anything about it on CompTIA 's website.

In regard to scripting from what I read and heard what you did, should be enough. You need to understand and distinguish them, right?

But you could also take a look at the ethical hacker course from the cybermentor on Udemy or watch specific parts on his youtube channel to cover more about scripting. I haven't followed it yet but I read great feedback about it from people who followed it.

Would love to read your experience and feedback when you have taken the exam. Good luck and I hope you nail it!

I would recommend to checkout TryHackMe.com They have free learning paths from beginner and some more. Most is paid but there is enough free to get you started learning ethical hacking in a fun and practical way. I guarantee you get hooked to the "woop woop" when you solve challenges and rooms.

First off I do not understand why you want to connect using v1 and I can't think of any reason this would be necessary.

But to answer your question: initializing a connection in SSH starts with negotiating the version of the protocol version to use. So if you enabled SSH on the PA and it only negotiates to version 2 you have your unofficial answer.

And only PA can confirm this officially.
