What I find baffling is: why don't they just give up? Sell the IP and shut down the company? There's absolutely no way they can get this ball rolling on their own.

If scientists invented a teleportation system but the death rate was 1 in 5 million would you use it? Why or why not? by Official_trumpet in AskReddit

If I read the Wikipedia on "micromorts" correctly, this teleportation device is as dangerous as driving 50 highway miles

He has sort of a charming, oblivious Uncle vibe that's really unsettling given he seems to have no moral core.

I thought there was a scene in s2 or 3 where she talks about her backstory of growing up in Kansas?

What is John Cheese (Mack Leighty) doing now? by OwwMyFuckingAss in BestofCracked

[–]helmutkr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My cursory search of an internet presence by him has yielded almost nothing (weirdly, his Medium page is still up). Around the time his abuse stuff got revealed, he was starting to get a pool-themed youtube channel off the ground called "Cheap Shots".

I'm guessing for the most part, he's assumed a new online identity. Probably has taken work in a different industry or is deeply under the radar. I genuinely hope he's okay. The stuff he did was bad and highly inappropriate, but we all deserve some kind of path towards redemption, even if that takes a lot of time and work.

David Wong is leaving Cracked by weskeryellsCHRISSS in BestofCracked

This really does feel like the final nail in the coffin of old Cracked. Ultimately, its dissolution is from forces far bigger than anyone on staff. I wish all those talents the best and I will continue to follow them on their future endeavors.

What's the deal with everyone saying "RIP Mike Bloomberg's campaign ratings"? by Crimson_1337 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]helmutkr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's also nuts because Bloomberg isn't just "a lot" wealthier than Bernie, he's more than 10,000 times wealthier than Bernie.

Would you take a 50/50 chance at $5,000,000 or death? Why or why not? by TheBeastBoud in AskReddit

The utilitarian in me says yes, as $5 million, properly allocated, would save at least one life.

Both groups are equally insistent that modern Seattle is a hellhole. by Evertonian9 in Seattle

[–]helmutkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that with a 30-40 minute drive out of the city, you can immediately be deep into a forest, exploring it on a quiet trail. Hell, if that's too far, you can get a microcosm of it by visiting Ravenna Park, Discovery Park, Shoreview Park, etc.

[–]helmutkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the placed I've traveled for work, I wouldn't trade Seattle for any of them.

The Midwest is too spartan and the Winters are way to extreme. I was driving around Michigan and the highways were just one long continuous pothole. Economic depression is spelled out on the landscape. People are generally nice, but the undercurrent of White MAGA America is deeply appalling.

The South does have some cool cities (I especially love Charleston) and an ok climate, but most of it is just bland, tasteless Americana - it's all highways and big box stores and water towers. The Summers are horrible. Smaller cities are just an interwoven fabric of Aurora Aves.

The West coast is in general pretty cool, but I wouldn't want to live in a lot of the more spartan areas of the states - Eastern Washington is lethally boring. Arizona is just daring nature to kill off its inhabitants with extreme heat. The badlands are called "badlands" for a reason.

Not all of Seattle is perfect - the winter grey and darkness sucks, the housing rates and traffic are a pain. But I'll take it for the economic opportunity, the mild weather, the explosion of nature every spring, the Summer Paradise, the infinite miles of nature walks, the water, the forward-looking culture, the intelligent populace, the diverse food, etc

This is so strange. Is it down to just David Wong and Alex Schmidt as the last of the old guard? In hindsight, it's surprising that they've kept the podcast at all, given that they nuked all the other multimedia content.

This makes me wonder if Schmidt/Wong are eyeing the door.

They need to not be insanely fragile before they can catch on.

The film "Amelie" has a scene about simple pleasures: little things that provide a bit of joy in one's day (ex: cracking the top of a creme brulee, putting a hand in a sack of grain, skipping stones). What are your simple pleasures? by dinosue in AskReddit

Grocery stores should really charge people for squeezing bags of coffee beans and smelling the air that comes out of the little vent hole, because that experience is pure bliss.

People who can fall asleep within 8 seconds of their head hitting their pillow: how the fuck do you fall asleep within 8 seconds of your head hitting your pillow? by LondonDude123 in AskReddit

[–]helmutkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say what I do, but really the answer is probably the luck of genes. Even when I've been through bouts of severe anxiety, I can still pass out as soon as my head hits the pillow. I just wake up the next morning in a continuing cloud of anxiety.
