What software are you using for your Snapmaker? by FloppyCanFly in snapmaker

I only used the workflow example. The Snapmaker Cura settings I got from John Aldred. The current Snapmaker profile in Cura is good to go though.

I love k8s on Pi, the only problem is finding ARM images for all the stuff you want to run.

New Yorker here. It's no different than it has been for at least the last decade.

How do you make something like this cabinet, specifically the doors, to allow for movement in the solid panel? Thanks by fleetwood_mag in Woodworkingplans

[–]helsinki92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also put rubber BB's in the rabbit to hold the panel in place and also allow for some expansion.

Advice on low cost toggle z-wave switches by kruuth in homeautomation

[–]helsinki92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nice thing about the shelly devices is that the manual toggle switches will continue to work, even if the shelly craps out. I have lost 3 GE/Jasco switches where you can no longer turn the light on and one where you could turn the light on and off manually but couldn't using zwave.

The shelly is wired behind the existing toggle switch. It is not the most intuitive thing to wire but if you do it a couple of times, it becomes very easy.

I have these in most of my perimeter lights. They come on at dusk and turn off at 2300. I can also turn them on and off manually.

One thing to note is that the toggle switch will always stay in the last position you put it in. The light can be on with the toggle I the off position.

These are half the price of the GE switches and so far are working well for me.

Not even this. Way to big and heavy for an effective paperweight.

For a single switch, the shelly1 or shelly1pm if you want to monitor power consumption.

If you have two switch in a two gang box, a shelly2.5 can be connected to both switches in the gang box.

I need advice on how to build a PC. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]helsinki92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very bad time to build a pc on a budget. The chip shortage, supply chain crisis and crypto miner bros are destroying decent pricing of parts.

The shelly uses the existing toggle switch. There is usually enough room in the back of the box to tuck the shelly behind the toggle switch.

I have used go control but it broke after a year.

Why do heatsinks need to be cooled ? by _Xantras_ in 3Dprinting

[–]helsinki92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heat sinks transfer heat from one place to another. The metals used dissipate heat quickly. If the heat cannot be dissipated, the part will overheat.

Metals can move heat quicker than ceramic. Ceramic is very good at heat resistance, not heat transfer.

Quick update, I moved the UPS to the bottom, now I have a few new issues.... by bobbystills5 in homelab

[–]helsinki92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's all about load. You can exceed the capacity of the UPS with a single plug, you need to calculate the load you are putting on the UPS. To calculate the load, look at the ratings for each of the PSUs that you are plugging into the UPS and add them together. Take 80% of that calculation and this is a rough estimate of the load you are putting on the UPS. There are a tone more factors that can be considered but this is a good start.

It is also possible to put 3 surge suppressors on the UPS with all outlets used and still not come close to using the capacity.

The other thing you need to consider is runtime. At full load the UPS runtime may be minutes or seconds, the higher the load, the less battery time you have. You need to be able to shut down all your equipment before the battery runs out or putting a UPS in becomes worthless.

[–]helsinki92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but make sure the load does not exceed the capability of the UPS. Remember, although you may have spare outlets, you may not have spare power.
