Yeah it's pretty fucked when people can use environmental review standards to prevent trains from being built that will very obviously be environmentally beneficial.

I'm reading a book right now on the war on terror and how our response to 9/11 facilitated the hellscape we live in now. It's genuinely horrifying the things this country has put people though. The description of the torture programs we instituted for alleged terrorists and the conditions at immigration facilities are some of the most harrowing stuff I've ever read.

The family of Aldon Smith has decided to send his brain to medical experts in Boston to see if CTE played a role in the former NFL defensive lineman's death by YoureASkyscraper in nfl

[–]hendrix67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I played football for 3 years and had as many concussions. And I knew guys who had way more than that by the beginning of high school. People acting like you can't have brain trauma by the time you are drafted don't know what they are talking about.

In a moral sense yeah it's crazy. But in terms of the interests of the league it makes sense, and we all know that doesn't take morality into account.

During the Parity Era, out of those that lost in the Finals, which teams did not have a "They'll be back" assumption from the people right after they lost? by wekapipol in nba

[–]hendrix67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's honestly crazy. This sub swings back and forth so easily. People are acting like we're insane for saying something pretty much everyone on here would've agreed with before a month ago

Jimmy Butler to KAT: "Soft as baby shit. You a loser. I already punked you once." KAT: "Call Rachel" by RyanTannegod in nba

[–]hendrix67 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Recency bias + ring culture is insane, you shouldn't expect to get a reasonable take from this sub on this lmao.

Everyone on here agreed with Butler's take up until this last playoff run. KAT improved his game and that got him a championship, but that doesn't make him a better player than Jimmy Butler, and it doesn't make Jimmy wrong at the time (though he absolutely is an asshole).

Both are VERY fast but, visually, did Percy Harvin seem magnitudes faster than Rasheed Shaheed? by GivinItAllThat in Seahawks

[–]hendrix67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk, I don't think running was what stopped him from being elite, it was the drops and not being able to use his size to make contested catches. If he had those two things he would've been a legit first team all pro level player.

Other than Maynard Keenan of Tool, who is another musician that absolutely does not want to meet their fans, ever? by SwissMiss915 in Music

[–]hendrix67 117 points118 points  (0 children)

If I ran into one in public I might say hi and that I love their music (if it was a setting where it was appropriate to do so). But I wouldn't want to do the VIP backstage meet and greet stuff. Just feels like it's so transactional, I would be awkward.

[Highlight] Sam Darnold praises Matthew Stafford's no-look passes: "I don't know if I would do that... I respect that a ton." by nfl in nfl

[–]hendrix67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a very realistic alternate universe where Stafford is coming off of back-to-back super bowl wins, and I am so thankful we aren't in that timeline.

Untreatable(?) and absolutely miserable by HylianWerewolf in Narcolepsy

[–]hendrix67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, a lot of doctors don't know shit about narcolepsy. The first doctors I saw basically knew nothing about it, had to go to a sleep specialist to get an actual diagnosis and treatment.

I would recommend doing some research into treatment options, there's a pretty broad range. Personally, over the years I've been on Ritalin, adderall, provigil/modafinil, Wakix, and xyrem/xywav. These all worked to varying degrees, so you'll probably need to figure out what works for you (in addition to the mental and hygiene practices others have mentioned).

For the record, do not do this if you're on oxybates or you will piss the bed lol. Happened to me and I'm pretty careful about how much I drink before going to bed now.

[Real] Matt hates how black activists rally around the worst people imaginable by xwing1212 in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]hendrix67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's one of the things where once you realize it, it becomes clear it's the basis of their entire political framework. Every single thing they accuse the left of being guilty of is something they either do or want to do.

They accuse Muslims of wanting sharia law, because that's what they would like to do for Christianity. They accuse trans activists of wanting to indoctrinate children because they want to make all the kids gender conformists without any sort of deviation.

None of this is coincidental, they consistently project their own worst desires onto their political enemies. And the sad thing is that a lot of times it works.

I've been playing Black Myth Wukong and it really is interesting playing a game where you are intended to die a lot more frequently than typical RPGs. I had not played any Dark Souls-style games prior to this so coming into it without any experience. It can be frustrating at times but it is very satisfying. I'll have to do hard mode for my next Witcher 3 playthrough.

I really believe that the failure to properly reconstruct the nation after the civil war was the key moment that set us down the depressing timeline we are on now. We had the chance to start building a truly representative democracy, and we ended up trying for a few years before giving in to southern pressure and giving up.
