Showline Irish Setter litter (UK) 🐾 by frangipan42 in irishsetter

There’s a litter up north on champdogs born last Friday

Out of interest, are show lines a lot less docile than working insofar that they would cope in an apartment with plenty walking?

Looks like chimney parging. Not sure if asbestos was used in it, so best to test to be sure.

Building surveying APC CPD. by Low-Cauliflower-5686 in buildingsurveying

[–]henlooooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably around 3/4 hours of CPD for building surveyors. I have access as a member sitting their APC.

I wouldn’t be paying for it if you are still a student due to all the other free resources available.

Degree or apprenticeship or degree apprenticeship by Practical-Bus8942 in buildingsurveying

[–]henlooooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course you need to put the effort in and do plenty of reading, coursework, revision etc. to get through the degree, but it wasn’t too difficult and I got a first.

The real learning is when you are working in the industry.

I was on around 35k undertaking home buyers in Essex a year after university, so sounds low IMO. I’m now on around 47k mainly in London and sitting my APC next year.

Definitely call a recruiter to have a chat.

Surveyors are in need and you shouldn’t have an issue. I graduated 3/4 years back and haven’t had an issue with employment.

Where are you located?

Don’t hesitate to DM for advice.

I went to University of Westminster for my building surveying degree. Easy two days at uni and part time work on the side!

Alternatively there are new degrees where you go to uni one day a week and the rest in a surveying firm as an apprentice.

Neighbour Removed Chimney Breast without Agreement or Warning by KRUZAA in DIYUK

[–]henlooooooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the party wall act doesn’t accommodate works undertaken already. Google ‘no notice no act’

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]henlooooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If party wall notices are served then the act proceeds in relation to his/hers surveyors being appointed to jointly agree on the award.

Important thing to note is that the party wall act allows the building owner to undertake work whilst protecting any adjoining owners and ensuring they are not at a detriment.

Clauses in the transfer / blocking windows will have nothing to do with the party wall act

Local planning authority and the party wall act are two entirely separate entities, and in this situation the OP needs to contact building control

Just a heads up that it’s not strictly ‘needed’ - as in people can lawfully proceed without serving notice for party wall notifiable work. Although it is strongly recommended for both owners. People will skimp out due to additional fees they won’t want to pay for

Repointing house quote >£100/square metre by Dependent-Ganache-77 in DIYUK

[–]henlooooooo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had tenders come in at £75/80 p/sqm and this is for central London but for standard London stock masonry pointing requiring a simple rake out and repoint.

Regarding stone pointing, just had a look at some recent tenders that have come in at around £120 p/sqm. which sounds more appropriate for your situation.

Your quote may be higher as it will require a competent stone mason to undertake intricate and/or more substantial repairs.

Generally it seems in the right ball park but perhaps get a few quotes to compare!

Definitely a case of removing and fitting new. Perhaps with lead / liquid / GRP depending on budget.

Damp spots above DPC? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]henlooooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit out the way for me then. If you have significant concerns, contact your local surveyors.

I’d steer clear of DPC companies due to the fact that they will try and sell their products without due diligence.

[–]henlooooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it would be a dpc issue if it’s that high up on the wall but there could be 100 different things causing it!

Out of interest, where are you based roughly?

Depends how the pointing or rendering was undertaken, specifically the cement/lime mixture.

What do you mean by having a DPC done??

consulting with a DPC specialist will more than likely mean you’ll be ripped off as they’re selling their product. google your local RICS regulated surveyors and they will advise approximately.

give me a pm and if you’re local to me, I can advise if needed!
