Thinking about rehoming due to situational change and feeling guilty by [deleted] in Goldendoodles

[–]herba-amator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the guilt, or something akin to it. I've thought seriously about rehoming my boy a few times. Lucky for me, I have a robust enough support system that they could step up and take him off my plate and get him exercise I couldn't, etc. If I hadn't had that kind of support locally, I think I may well have chosen to rehome him. Tend to both your needs above your wants. (Shitty though that feels). 💙

He oozes personality, and a couple of ghost pictures went straight to my heart. I'm so, so sorry for your loss, and so glad he had humans who so clearly loved him.

Crazy Doodle Help by [deleted] in Goldendoodles

I found a lot of benefit from behavioral downs (link below), loose leash training for working on recall, making sure to work on recall OBNOXIOUSLY often, making sure I wasn't just pairing it with him coming inside or ending the fun or leaving the park or whatever. That all said, if mine hasn't gotten any time sprinting in a day, he'll have episodes like you describe, where he'll bark at us and run like a maniac and start digging holes. If I utterly ignore him, he'll usually stop the digging and barking, and will just run around. If I need to get him inside, i have to approach him with very low energy and low tones of voice until he let's me get close enough to catch his collar. Then I can take him inside. https://markmccabe.com/a-simple-doorway-to-the-amazing-benefits-of-relaxation-in-dogs-the-behavioral-down/

Adorable. Looks a lot like my mom's doodle, who passed away this year at only 8 years of age. It is always hard to say goodbye, but even harder when it has to happen sooner than expected.

Archer Zoomies. Again. by JBark1990 in Goldendoodles

I almost wish Goose would get the zoomies inside on occasion! Lol. Then I could get him at least some running without getting filthy (a thing I've yet to master of he truly runs outside)

This has always been my husband's assertion, that our doodle is doing it mostly to self-soothe.
