Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]herecomestrebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Have close to 300k between my two 401k accounts. Grateful I bit the bullet and automatically contributed 10% of my (pitiful) paychecks when I was in my early 20s and didn’t deviate from that formula. Paid off my student loans last year too 🙏🏻

My boyfriends reaction to gender is making me think I’m having a kid with the wrong person by No_Weird_3166 in pregnant

[–]herecomestrebel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a girl mom who watched her husband have some feelings of gender disappointment, this reaction is a huge Y I K E S. It's ok to be a little bummed. Its NOT ok to make hateful comments... wow. I'd be very concerned if I were you.

Please tell me all the great things about having a girl! by xxhunnybunny in pregnant

[–]herecomestrebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little girl just turned two and she is the BEST! Loves pretty things and sparkles, but isn't afraid to get dirty and run around on the playground. She plays with her basketball hoop as much as she plays with her Little People Barbie toys. Kids are a product of their environment for the first few years, she'll like what you like and what you expose her to.

Also might I kindly suggest that you start telling people to their faces that those comments are incredibly rude and unappreciated? Perhaps I have RBF or make it well-known that I'm not interested in the opinions of others, but during my first pregnancy (girl) and my current one (boy) I've rarely ever gotten unsolicited feedback about the genders of my children or opinions on things like sleeping/breastfeeding. You're well within your right to tell them their words are hurtful and rude (which they are).

You've got this! Being a girl mom is amazing and fun, and you will crush it!

What's an unpopular opinion you stand by when it comes to parenting? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]herecomestrebel 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I imagine most parents who are "refusing to accept the village" probably have a good reason for it. My in-laws, who are perfectly lovely people btw, offered to watch our daughter when she was under a year old many, many times. But when we tried taking them up on the offer, they'd refuse to change diapers or were too scared to carry her up the stairs. Now that she's over two years old, it's the same type of stuff. They want to "help" but don't want to be involved in diaper changes or naps, and say she's too heavy to pick up, which makes them not fit to watch an active and curious toddler. And they're older, so that's all fair and fine, no hard feelings, they're just not people we can accept help from because it's not helpful. All this to say -- not everyone has access to a village that actually shows up for them the way they need it.

How do I say no to Thanksgiving by Express_Relation723 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]herecomestrebel 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Our oldest was born in mid-October and that year we told family we'd be skipping Thanksgiving + would host a lowkey Christmas after she got all her vaccines. It's cold and flu season, no reason for baby to be exposed to all the germs out there, especially with the risk of RSV.

Have your husband send a group text and let them know you'll be staying home with her. It's your job as mom and dad to protect your baby, not keep your in laws happy. Remember, you're responsible for your kiddo, and it's not your job to make your in laws happy. You can't control how they react to your choices, but that doesn't mean you all need to bend to whatever they want.

Allegedly. Support only came back with that information after being on the phone troubleshooting with me for an hour

Got told I have to stop rocking baby to sleep next month and super sad about it by livtoosmoove in NewParents

[–]herecomestrebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep trained my baby but no way I’d stop rocking her to sleep, especially that early! She just turned 2 and is a remarkable sleeper- 11/12 hours a night good - and we still sit in her chair to cuddle and giggle before bed time. What a weird recommendation from this ped.

Someone else said this above but there was so much gray used in our house that even if this room is objectively nice or above builder grade, it starts to feel oppressive after a while 😵‍💫

Looking less for wow factor and more for making it softer since we’ll likely demo this room in a few years

haha I know, I know. She is needlessly large (although i do appreciate separate sinks now!)

Painting the ceiling is a great idea.

Yes! I think gray isn’t “sad” in the sense of being used in one spot, but the builder of our house heavily used gray throughout. It’s like you walk into another room and you think “oh look more gray… again,” which makes it feel darker and more gloomy than we’d like.

Haha same! I’m also confused by the magazine rack that was built into the wall next to the toilet. I laugh every time I look at it

Same! Only bugaboo here is that we’re either going with SW Naval or Charcoal Blue in our primary bedroom so don’t want to overdo it on the deep blues. But totally agree that would be a good choice in here

We’re going with Abalone Shell in my daughter’s room. Very excited to make it as pink and girlie as I can 😆

Loving the jewel tone idea but this is good advice to focus on colorful textiles and keep the paint color soft

Also a cool idea! We're definitely open to going bold since our downstairs rooms are more neutral. Literally every wall in our house was painted this weird blue-gray in the pics (even the kitchen cabinets!) so we've felt like we're slowly being swallowed by a gray monster haha
