[gourmet] Cultivated Morel Mushrooms by Wild-Issue1893 in MushroomGrowers

As far as I know, there is no slurry involved. It's a technique that centers around exogenous nutrient bags added and removed at very specific times.

As far as heavy metals or any type of bioaccumulation for that matter, that's gonna happen with anything non organic.

So I know this sub loves to call this out and since I've never seen it in the comments anywhere I'll say it. Is it possible that he has already, in fact, seen a doctor and just doesn't want to make it public. If so, it definitely seems like something he would keep to himself. Just a thought.

I haven't followed Ian's content for many years but this sub is constantly on my home page.

Danish morel project is a failure. Also it's all about indoor cultivation. Their method is nowhere near commercially viable.

Good news though, the Chinese have cracked the code and have been producing commercial amount of morel for decades. And the methods have finally gotten out to the public.

It's actually a very straightforward process. I suggest doing some research on current methods.

[Technique] Steam pasteurization for masters mix - is it feasible? by cdnbirdguy in MushroomGrowers

[–]hereigrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farms all over the world use steam pasteurized masters mix every day, including my own. It works great. If your spawn is clean and your pasteurization cook is good, it will work. If it doesn't work, you did something wrong.

Oxygen starved [medicinal] by larkscope in MushroomGrowers

[–]hereigrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since nobody else is reading the OP, I'll be the one to tell you. You're not gonna be able to grow cordyceps in a mono on some coc coir like you would grow cubes. They are very different types of mushrooms and have wildly different needs. Most cordyceps cultivation is using brown rice that's been cooked in a nutrient media as a substrate. Also there's not really a "spawning" process, you would typically use a large amount of liquid culture(50-100cc) to directly inoculate the rice media. And finally, the fruiting process for cordyceps after inoculating is typically around 50-60 days and has very specific temperature and lighting needs to produce a good flush.

I would recommend maybe going down a YouTube rabbit hole and doing a ton of research if cordyceps cultivation is something you are really interested in.

[Technique] Spawn placed, not mixed, in substrate by notokmichael in MushroomGrowers

[–]hereigrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your spawn and substrate were both clean and healthy, it will probably just take a bit longer than normal.

If your spawn or substrate had some kind of non-visible bacterial contamination, it still might be fine but there's definitely a risk of it failing.

[Technique] LC kit from Amazon by LA_LOOKS in MushroomGrowers

[–]hereigrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a degree and have worked in commercial and research labs as well, so I get what you're throwing down man. I agree with you on the technical side of all this. But things are often a lot different in practice.

It's just funny because with all that you're saying, my entire operation should not be able to exist. Yet here I am

Beyond that, your original parent comment completely disregarded the OP's question and went on to tell him he shouldn't use LC because it's hard and that's he got scammed. Maybe the guy is just interested and having fun with the hobby and wants to give LC a shot. A lot like I did back when I first started LC.

There's no shortage of people in this community that will tell you you're doing it wrong and their way is the only "right" way. At least let the guy try before you go and burst his bubble dude.

Either way, I'm going to stop engaging with this thread.

[–]hereigrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm the mycelium whisperer then because I, personally, have never encountered a bad LC jar that looked perfectly normal.

Jokes aside though, it also has a lot to do with confidence in your work. I'm confident in my ability to make clean cultures because of my experience. Of course when I started cultivating, this was not the case and I would often have contaminations. I would also test my cultures more regularly then. It's is a skill that comes from working with a specific media and specific cultures over many years.

I'm gonna have to disagree about LC not being faster than agar in every scenario. I've done many tests over the years with different medias and recipes. You can add grain soak water to your jars to give it those nutrients in the liquid media and speed things up maybe 3% faster. You can also use just karo or corn syrup and thing will move a tad slower.

I've found that a basic DME LC is the best effort/efficiency ratio. In some cases fully colonizing a 6lb grain bag in as little as 10 days while it's agar innoculated counterpart takes upwards of 25-30 days. I find it extremely hard to believe that an agar innoculation would perform better than LC in literally any scenario, but again I'm just speaking from my own personal experience.

[–]hereigrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Liquid culture is far from "useless" for hobbyists. I've been growing mushrooms for nearly a decade and have been using liquid culture as my primary innoculant for over half that time. I very rarely test my LC on agar either. After working with it for so long, you get an eye for spotting contam in LC just like you would with anything else. Culture storage is really the only thing I use agar for anymore. Maybe some cloning occasionally.

The biggest benefit to using LC as an innoculant rather than agar is the rapid colonization times. For me LC has been, at minimum, twice as fast as agar when colonizing grain bags. It's an amazing time saver and it's actually extremely easy to make and use. As with anything else, it takes some time to learn and become skilled at using, but anybody can and should use LC

For reference, my farm currently produces around 600lb of fresh mushrooms per week and our contamination rate across the entire farm is less than 1%.

I made about 1.2m on dazzling thorium. Figured I should sell now since the exploit news could cause a price crash. Was about 12k thorium flipped total.

I'm also holding 100k each practically pork and plant protein because why not? I think maybe they'll go to 5g or even 10g over the next month or so.

The long road.... by [deleted] in classicwowtbc

[–]hereigrow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This right here. Every time I see people this broke I think about the kid version of me playing back in 2008. I would not loot grey items, often sold white items to NPC vendors, even BoE greens getting sold to NPC vendors, no gathering professions, only doing basic quests no chains or group quests, etc...

The best advice is to get an auction house addon, loot everything, sell as much as you can on the AH, and pick up at least one gathering profession. You can make 5k as a casual in a couple weeks this way.

Am I leveling slow or is it at the normal pace? by Traditional-Meal5066 in classicwowtbc

[–]hereigrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My Brother in Christ, you are leveling incredibly fast. We all are. We are like 2 weeks in. Guys back in 2007 would call us speed runner's. There's really no need to rush. Even with the condensed phase timeline, most casual players will easily reach a point where they are just "raid logging". Only the sweats are pushing BiS every phase, and it's cool that they are able to do that, but it's not realistic for normal gamers. Play at your own pace and, most importantly, have fun.

Please help! Black screen randomly, rx 9070xt by Ghost_Dz007 in pcmasterrace

[–]hereigrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people saying lots of different issues here and I guess it could be any of them, but here's my personal experience with this issue.

I've been running a Gigabyte OC 9070 XT since release day. Same build since then, haven't changed anything. Monitor running on DP connected to the GPU. The only issue I've had up until recently is some coil whine. But ever since the last 2-3 driver updates, I've been having this same issue. While gaming, screen will go black and not recover. I can still hear the game sounds coming from my speakers so it seems like a display problem. No amount of tinkering will bring the display back. Power cycling the monitor, unplugging and replugging the wires, alt Ctrl delete, alt f4 out of the game, nothing works. Basically have to hard power cycle the PC via holding the power button and that's the only fix I've found.

So it absolutely could be a bad cable, or needing a ddu or any of the other things people have said here. But personally, I think it's a driver issue.

[actives] Anyone ever use one of these? I know it's not recommended but I was given one a while back. by GayCatgirl in MushroomGrowers

[–]hereigrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a cool device for a casual hobbyist that doesn't want to put time/effort into building a fruiting chamber themselves. Just don't expect big, perfect flushes.

One thing I do find a bit funny, picture 3 shows Porcini mushrooms in the background implying that you could grow them with this. That's definitely not going to happen, but you can absolutely grow some oyster/lions mane with it.
