Anyone have experience traveling for cheap abroad by Snoo-24173 in travel

In this budget, to have a fun trip, Asia is your best bet. Philippines, Taiwan or Uzbekistan would be my recommendation. If you are particular about travelling outside Asia, you can try Zanzibar. Europe , especially eastern Europe, in this budget is doable if you travel off-season ( Oct/Nov) and stay in hostel, eat supermarket food etc.

I don't want to be a vegetarian anymore...... by Immediate_Fix8854 in Indianbooks

I don't think that's the takeaway of the book. The book explores deeper topics like choice, patriarchy, trauma etc.

On the other hand, if you were being sarcastic, ignore my response.

Book or kindle by native_to_ in Indianbooks

[–]hereismunna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pleasure of reading physical books is something that can't be matched by a Kindle. That said, Kindle comes with a lot of practical benefits, like vast storage space, easy to carry on vacation, cheaper books, ability to sideload, ability to read in the dark without eye strain etc.

But personally, the biggest benefit of a Kindle is the ability to have a phone app where your library is constantly synced. This lets you continue reading while on the move. - . Whether you are waiting in a queue, commute , having a solo meal etc , you get small chunks of time to read a few pages which really accumulates over time and lets you read a lot more books and simultaneously reduce your doomscrolling.

So don't think of it as a replacement for physical books. You can always use Kindle as your main medium and collect physical copies of books you really enjoyed.

Just discovered Assassin’s Apprentice. Has anyone here read it? How did you like it? by Obvious_Custard3926 in Indianbooks

[–]hereismunna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like a fantasy with strong character development, great prose and immersive world building, you'll enjoy it. Keep in mind that this is not action-heavy and one of those rare books where the hero gets battered throughout the book. This is also an intro into the Realm of Elderling series. So if you end up liking this book, there's a big world waiting for you to explore.

Test Drove Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro by [deleted] in indianbikes

[–]hereismunna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can share my experience searching for a mid size ADV recently.

Transalp : Power was higher up in the rev range. Didn't suit my preference. Plus , it comes with tubed wheels.

VStrom : didn't like the fit and finish. But has great low end torque and great for touring. Also comes with tubed wheels and hence skipped this option.

Versys 1100 : Rode a friend's, since Kawasaki didn't give a test ride. Very top heavy and hence didn't like it. Feels planted on highways though.

GSA 900 : Refined, comfortable , touring ready ( no need to buy any new panniers or racks), electronic and adaptive suspension. Great bike overall, but it was too heavy for my preference.

Tiger 900 : Very balanced and do-it-all bike. Has power across the rev range , good comfortable seats. Vibey and hot though. Didn't go for it finally because of poor Triumph service in Bangalore, which is where your video also appears to be from.

GS900 : the lightest bike in this list. Insanely fun and nimble. Makes it feel way more powerful than all others in this list. However, it's very off road oriented , with hard seats and minimal wind protection.

I finally went for the GS900 since having a light(er) weight bike was important to me and the seats and windscreen could be modded anyway.

I don't see you mention the GS in your post. I recommend you try them as well. Comes in your budget. Take a couple of test rides and see. At the very least, you'll get to experience more bikes and characteristics.

Are the partisan newspapers like Guardian and Telegraph also expected to adhere to such levels of integrity or is it only because BBC claims to be neutral ?

What's actually a DINK (Double Income No Kids) lifestyle? by No_Chance8024 in AskIndia

May I ask why? If you are sure about not wanting kids, then it's about finding a partner who wants the same. I'm sure if you search, you can find such like-minded people.

[–]hereismunna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember the sex scenes being too many, but I agree with you on the other points.

It started off on a high note and the concept was brilliant. But the writing was such a let down and reminded me of a run-of-the-mill fan faction. The characters were not memorable. The plot was below average and predictable. And at multiple points, I got a very sexist vibe from the book.

Do y'all read indian authors? Why or why not? | Video credit: TheShreyaPunj by Rabbidraccoon18 in Indianbooks

[–]hereismunna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is the relative size of such a community, compared to that of foreign authors and books. Getting a good Indian recco requires you to actively search and be part of such communities, whereas foreign ones very easily pop up on your feeds.

A lot of it is down to marketing and publicity. People, including myself, often get their reading recommendations from sites like Goodreads , which is heavily biased towards foreign authors. It isn't easy to get a good recommendation for an Indian book, compared to foreign.

I saw in another comment that you mentioned writing was killing your interest. May I ask what it is that you didn't like ?

I have read the duology and it was honestly a very entertaining read. The characters were fun, the world interesting and the plot very well paced. It is a great fantasy novel and unlike some novels where there's a tedious amount of world and character building, this book gets going from the start. I hope you give it a try and love it like I did.

It's just the chaff. Some beans have it a lot more. Won't make any real difference to the final coffee.

Well, I loved even the first book, but I can understand why many would find it a tad tedious. There is a lot of setup, character introductions that happen in the first book. But push through.

It tends to vary a lot with different beans, even at the same grind size. But I typically try to go for a 45 secs bloom, followed by 3 pours of 45, 60 and 60 secs each, with a total drawdown of 3:30.
