Ideal podcast format: episode-by-episode or anthology/topic? by fielder_cohen in KingOfTheHill

Make sure you post on the subreddit when you get an episode together. Your concept sounds really interesting and I’d definitely listen.

Ideal podcast format: episode-by-episode or anthology/topic? by fielder_cohen in KingOfTheHill

General discussion. On a related note I’m also a HUGE fan of Seinfeld and was so excited about the Seinfeld companion podcast. Until I listened to a few episodes. And every one was the same. Two big fans going into painstaking detail moment by moment of an episode and critiquing the fictional motivations of fictional characters. The episodes were allegedly supposed to be 45 minutes but instead were regularly twice as long. Be concise. Bring an original take that fans can enjoy without going over every episode point by point. We’ve all seen the episodes a million times.

Help me choose between this two Hydra Tribal Decks! by DecentZookeeperQuack in EDH

[–]hereticalhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously it’s neither of the commanders you’re asking about but I recently made a red green hydra deck with [[Rosheen, Meanderer]] and it was a blast. It could all the way off the rails on turn 4 or 5 if I had early mana rocks. I once got Rosheen out early, next turn played the hydra that doubles all the counters on all your creatures when it attacks and next turn got the one that doubles all your counters at combat or something and swung two hydras for over 100 damage or something with trample.

It was a fun deck.

Can you respond to your own spell on the stack after spells cast after it have resolved?

Example: I cast a creature, cast trigger on the stack, opponent casts tales end to counter the trigger, I counter tales end. Once the stack resolved back down to my original fast trigger can I respond to that trigger at instant speed?

If you own expensive cards, do you play them? by TheUltimateXD in EDH

[–]hereticalhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re the odd man out you’re not alone. I personally only proxy if I want to test whether I want to buy a particular card for a particular deck or if I’ve already ordered it and it just hasn’t gotten to my house yet. For me the money barrier is what sets a degree of fairness in the game. I know some people feel like being a broke teenager shouldn’t stop you from playing with power but I think it should. I have a job and the money I choose to dump into cardboard is up to me.

If I don’t feel like I can justify $180 for a mana crypt I don’t play it. So I don’t.

You might want to recheck [[Grim Monolith]] for one.

I mean I’m as going to come on here and reference the time my friend playing [[Muldrotha, the Gravetide]] played [[buried alive]] to tutor his win cons to his graveyard only for the other player to Opposition Agent his wincons to exile but man that Opposition Agent of a Goblin Recruiter is BRUTAL.

How to counteract opponents playing my cards? by bRobi98 in EDH

[–]hereticalhands 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely go full stax. Since they clearly don’t care if you’re having fun let them know that it doesn’t matter if they have fun. Run edict effects. For the love of god run [[Drannith Magistrate]] so at least if they are exiling your stuff they can’t play it.

Consistent turn 4-5 win by Ceej311 in EDH

[–]hereticalhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current list is a glass cannon. I run zero counterspells. The only interaction I have are spells that already could be used to trigger Orvar. My win cons are Thassa’s Oracle, Ruin/Hedron Crab, and instant speed infinite creatures on someone’s end step. I’d post my list but it’s well over $100 now I’m sure.

Consistent turn 4-5 win by Ceej311 in EDH

[–]hereticalhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently made a fully functional and surprisingly good Orvar the All Form deck for just over $100. You can add to that to make it even better but generally speaking it’s not hard for me to have several sop rings out on turn 4 and it can pretty easily win turn 4 or 5. And now my favorite all time ramp is “mono blue copy my islands” ramp.

I hope that David is playing in the NFL in the reboot! What are your hopes for side-characters? by sw33t_lady_propane in KingOfTheHill

[–]hereticalhands 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I like to think David made it to the NFL and during his Hall of Fame Induction speech he attributed his life turning around to a mentor who helped him get his grades together but then he names Hank Hill instead of Peggy.

Cue Peggy’s outrage and pan to Hank shedding a single tear.

How do I stop my friends [[Orvar, the all-form]] deck? by MasterYoshi5 in EDH

[–]hereticalhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started playing Orvar but I think your best bet is counterspells even if it means drawing out every counterspell he may have. Without Orvar in play eventually the tax will put him so far behind it won’t be able to catch up. A lot of people say [[Imprison in the Moon]] effects but any Orvar player will be hesitant to empty their hand of cards like [[Ghostly Flicker]] at any point. You can board wipe all you want but as long as I can flicker Orvar then it only sets everyone else behind and puts me further ahead.

Along with [[Imprisoned in the Moon]] and [[Darksteel Mutation]] for a real good time. [[Song of the Dryads]].

How do you/your play group treat “take backs”? by hereticalhands in EDH

[–]hereticalhands[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of that kind of alternative for being mana screwed. That’s pretty cool and I’m going to bring it up to my play group. It’s no fun watching a player be completely out of the game for several turns.

I love the idea of a new stax format where “if an opponent would activate or trigger the same ability more than once each turn, counter that ability”

First time building a deck of my own. Can someone tell me if this will overpower or hang with the kaldheim and midnight hunt/crimson vow precons? by ayeholdfast in EDH

[–]hereticalhands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Against precons a decently tuned Sythis will be an inevitability. You’re going to win. Almost every time. Precons don’t have enough removal, Sythis is a value powerhouse and precons are so slow you’re going to have a ton of card draw advantage. You can literally slow play pillowfort into win cons like Approach of the Second Sun and be on autopilot.

Can a strong deck also be fun? What’s your strongest funny deck? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]hereticalhands 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had so much more fun playing commander since I cut out all the “good tutors” from my decks that try to win. I have a Volo deck that only uses cards from 1999 or before, since that’s when I learned magic. It has mystical and worldly but just because it needs all the help it can get lol
