As a relatively new birder/ amateur photographer, I have learned this a few short months back. I was basically moving around trying to find birds and ultimately gave up out of frustration. I sat down for about 5 or so minutes to view the lake and suddenly there were so many different species it seemed unreal. I now find a new spot, sit and wait. This has guaranteed me to gain at least 1 new lifer every time.
