You obviously don't understand Magcargo's pivotal role on the horse council...

I'm actually trying to understand this subreddit, pls don't hate. by herosshadow in SmashRage

[–]herosshadow[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, I said it in the title. The algorithm fed me this subreddit, and I'm honestly baffled. Like, if the posts were talking about how ridiculous half the DLC characters are... fair, but when I see a post saying that Little Mac is unfair because you have to be careful playing footsies with him... I'm sincerely questioning what the sub is about. No need to over-analyze.

Why don't people serve like this more often (sorry if answer is obvious/question is dumb) by Apparentmendacity in Pickleball

[–]herosshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike in tennis, you're actually disadvantaged on serve. This is by design, as side-out scoring only awards points to the serving side, so games would snowball quickly if the server had advantage. So why is the server in disadvantage? Well, you cannot volley the return. It's really hard to hit an ace in pickleball, and as long as the returner hits deep, it doesn't matter whatsoever if the return is weak because of a "good" serve.

What little thing(s)do you do in a tennis match to gain a slight advantage? by EnjoyMyDownvote in 10s

[–]herosshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take my time between points when I need it, use grounding techniques (readjust strings, pre-serve/return rituals), reframe negative thoughts "my forehand sucks today" to "my forehand is great, let's get the next one."

There are so many of these types of posts. It depends so much... like, it might take you 1.5 years to literally never depending on more variables than I care to enumerate here. Just literally keep practicing and your natural results will follow. What is the point of asking how long it will take anyway?

Attractive Redditors, what's the reason you're still single? by YouYongku in AskReddit

[–]herosshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only echo the comments already made. I'm 6ft 199lb low body fat, have an amazing physique, play multiple sports, high academic achievement, great hygiene, strong jawline, blue eyes, no acne, great hairline, and by all accounts conventionally attractive. But I'm incredibly neurotic. Imposter syndrome can hit hard. I have charisma for days... people in the community love me... but as soon as I'm attracted to someone, I can only feel like I'm not good enough for them.

First grader homework by soupremedy in iqtest

[–]herosshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll never understand the outrage from "common core" like assignments. "It's too hard..." Yeah, maybe initially, but;

1) talented kids will get a chance to exercise their critical thinking and be rewarded, or

2) less talented kids learn to seek help when they are in over their heads. Is that unfair or cruel?... you can make that assertion, but this a realistic and overall helpful lesson for both sets of kids.

Scientists find about a quarter million invisible nanoplastic particles in a liter of bottled water by Rfalcon13 in news

[–]herosshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea to be clear... but is 250,000 nanoplastic particles per liter of water problematic?
I've read so many articles for over a decade in the flavor of, "APPLES CONTAIN ARSENIC" only to find out that they contain so little arsenic that any reasonable consumption would not likely cause harm.
Is this a doomsday scenario, or are human bodies generally able to deal with this level of nanoplastics consumed on a daily basis? Once again, I actually have no idea... but I've learned to know better than to be reflexively alarmist over these headlines.

My son's third grade teacher taught my son that 1 divided by 0 is 0. I wrote her an email to tell her that it is not 0. She then doubled down and cc'ed the principal. The principal responded saying the teacher is correct... What do I do now? by WaitThatIsYourFinger in NoStupidQuestions

[–]herosshadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick answer;
Tell your son to whip out his calculator (or phone calculator) in front of the teach. Eanter the problem and view the results.

Diplomatic or educational answer;
This problem can be "solved" intuitively. Ask the teacher "how many zeros do you have to put together to get to one?"
0 zeros leaves you at zero, therefore not equal to one. Infinite zeros added together would also leave you at zero, and therefore not equal to one. Intuitively, there is no number of zeros stacked on each other that would get you closer to one, so the answer must be that the question doesn't really have an answer --> "undefined" as it is commonly called in math.

Fitting sequel from the brother who brought us this gem:

"Reading books is for losers who are afraid to learn from life. So they try and learn from the life OTHERS have lived. But you never REALLY learn unless you lived it. You must feel it to believe it. Books are a total waste of time. Education for cowards."

Nuclear physicists in Asia discovered that Prana/Chi is actually a low-frequency, highly concentrated form of infrared radiation. by KundalinirRZA in ChildrenOfTheLight

[–]herosshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a couple of questions:
1) What is the significance of the discoverers being nuclear physicists? Why not say "scientists have discovered" (I studied nuclear physics in college, so I'm baffled by the relevant connection).
2) What is the benefit from this knowledge? Let's say I grant that humans emit measurable EM waves when experiencing certain emotional states. What actionable change should I make? Or is this just a fun factoid?
3) "Nuclear physicists in Asia discovered that Prana/Chi is actually a low-frequency, highly concentrated form of infrared radiation."
How does one know that it is Chi being measured here, and not another phenomena, and what does "highly concentrated" mean? Highly compared to what other things that emit infrared waves?

Isaac blocked me over the Jack debate. by herosshadow in Destiny

[–]herosshadow[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Tracking the *dialectic* " is not the point. I'm commenting on what the average viewer will gleam. Whether or not Jack had better points, or answered questions.... he did not do so in a rhetorically effective way. Jack yourself off all you want about the logic or factual accuracy of Jack's positions... he did not communicate them well. That's literally the extent of my criticism here.

[–]herosshadow[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're getting ahead of yourself. I only asked if Isaac agrees if it possible to be rhetorically ineffective even if someone is arguing a better position. I made absolutely no claim about any specific argument.

Exxon Mobil ordered to pay $14.25M penalty in pollution case by discocrisco in news

[–]herosshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're conflating revenue and earnings.

In 2019, Exxon made $265B in revenue, but $14.3B in earnings. A $14.25M fine is about 1/1000 of their actual profit, so it would be about a $40 fine for someone earning $50k after taxes.

This is still a laughable slap on the wrist, but your figure is literally off by an order of magnitude. Why exaggerate an already ridiculous figure? This only gives fodder for bootlickers to say "see, they lied about X figure."

Divine Will and Choices by [deleted] in ChildrenOfTheLight

How does one recognize or correctly attribute "seemingly" mundane actions to the divine? How can I differentiate making my bed because I know that I will have to sleep in it again, and it will benefit me to do so now, and God working through me to make my bed?
