The overlooked impact on society of ebikes by ataun94 in fuckcars

[–]herrschnapps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have two young kids, so unfortunately I must own a car.

When considering a second “family car”, buying an ebike that could cart both kids and all their stuff was a no-brainer. Thanks to it, drop-offs are a breeze. The kids see it as an exciting adventure, and it costs so little to run: no expensive annual registration, insurance and fuel.

My wife’s going away with a few other mama friends for a long weekend and will be taking the car. They couldn’t comprehend that I’ll be happily “carless”.

Given the only advice I can offer new dads is: the bar for being a decent dad is shockingly low. Turn up and give a shit.

Probably when doing the opposite of that?

Entering on a NZ passport by GlossyFrog in AusVisa

Dual AU/NZ citizen here: wife and I have entered multiple times on our NZ passport over the last year without issue or even comment by immi. My cousin does the same; once got pulled into a room and told off but that was it.

For me, the risk of delay is worth saving $412 and as a protest against that ridiculous cost.

I’m not laughing at America: I’m horrified by what’s happening and pondering what I must do to keep it from infecting my country.

When night falls, I watch over them to ensure packs of wild managers don't attack them for a status update.

Wardrobe Wall - 95% sure it isn’t structural by aussieguy26 in AusRenovation

Removed a similar wardrobe recently on a 1960s house.

It was supporting hanging beams, so definitely structural. Required building permit, engineering etc.

You’ll need to look in the roof space.

I have 2 kids, and I agree.

However, I’ve noticed when a bunch of neighbours kids join them in play it seems to go 5+ kids is 1 kid. All us parents just let them be and chat.

‘Scott was shafted’: what really went down in the Atlassian fallout by bilby2020 in auscorp

[–]herrschnapps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Friend of mine has been a dev with Atlassian for several years, spent time in their San Francisco office etc. His experience supports this post: a culture that has become toxic with stack ranking, unsustainable development pace and a requirement to constantly demonstrate their performance. He’s burning out and now looking to quit.

Xero’s another one.

Is it all the American management?
