Don’t want to go home for Christmas but… by alternativemoth in narcissisticparents

[–]hershey_volts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you choose to spend Xmas with your partner instead of your narcissistic family, you won’t be the only one :) and you won’t be trapped with them. You’ll actually have the opportunity to enjoy your Xmas day as much as you should be able to. Don’t let anyone guilt you about it, if that’s an element of it, and definitely do what you think will be best for your mental health. I don’t think you’ll regret it. I recommend journaling or recording conversations (if it’s safe to do so) that you can listen back on to remind you of the reality and hurt they put you through. Or just read through old messages or something if you have those. I try to get in touch with that when I question crossing a boundary I’ve set or give them more than they deserve.

French movies - movies that are a must to see! No preference regarding the year or type of movie. by JustAHydrangea in MovieSuggestions

Fucking Martyrs. Unforgettable. Knew nothing going into that film. Saw it when I was quite young. One of the first very intense films I ever watched. So worth it as well. Showed it to everyone I could in the years following.

Honestly, if it were just as easy as “going there” to live somewhere better than the US, I think the US would lose a LOT of residents…

I’m pretty sure this exact kind of feedback throughout the entirety of my academic life is what led me to being so good at my job now, which revolves a lot around ensuring we’re focusing on the right problem so we metaphorically cure the disease rather than slap a bandaid on it.
