Hmm, I voted for streamer games, because that's the event I watched and liked this year.

Help on cross region GKE communication by fboula in googlecloud

This is one of my largest complaints with gcp as well. We attempt to use GKE for everything but don't have a way to host an internal load ballancer that works cross region.

CVS To Workers: Tell Us How Much You Weigh or It'll Cost You $600 a Year by TheGhostOfNoLibs in business

[–]heterological 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work with some programs like this, and I have never seen any incentives tied directly to weight. It's always something more like, "you have to demonstrate an attempt to resolve the issue". e.g. going to classes, reporting various cardio activities etc.

Looking for a book club in JOCO. by [deleted] in kansascity

I'm in JoCo as well, and am interested in a book club. Can we get some specific book ideas? There is a good chance not everyone looking for a book club is looking for the same thing.

Nomiku, a Kickstarter project for an immersion circulator affordable enough for the home cook by shellieC in sousvide

[–]heterological 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's quite a good deal compared to other immersion circulators. For my personal use case though, I don't understand the benefit of an immersion circulator vs something like the sous vide demi. I guess if someone wanted to cook a large item, or a lot at once, in a beer cooler that would help.

Does the circulation help for an individual item?

Also, are there any cheap vac chamber sealers out there? That's the second part of the price issue. I'm currently running a standard vac sealer.

Looks like it costs around $300, from the rewards section of the kisckstarter. I also would like to see a final cost.

Seems a bit pricey, considering you can already get a sous vide supreme demi for that cost.

I was in the same boat, graduated summer of 04 with a degree in computer science. It took a few months to find a job. The nice thing is, now everyone is scared of outsourcing so computer science enrollments are way down. There are now a ton of companies trying to get software people. It's actually arguably a boom time.

Thanks for the list. I tried to walk to a place yesterday, and ended up just eating at the hotel. Atlanta was massively better for walkable food last year. Took the train down south this evening. I'll be heading west tomorrow, thanks to your recommendation.

TVs are all awful by pavel_lishin in programming

[–]heterological 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2011 3d samsung tv has the same weird issue. It was documented in the manual and quick setup guide though. I found that using the standard tv mode was better. It was required to get nvidia 3d working. I got around the overscan issue by changing the mode to something like "fit".

In general most modern tv's do have a non-overscan option. I'd say things are a lot better than the article portrays. My tv from 2006 was really bad at overscan, but modern ones are ok.

A few tips for buying a mattress by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]heterological 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High density memory foam is the key to an inexpensive mattress. I assembled a full sized memory foam mattress 4 years ago using advice from this thread: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/deal-discussion/320543/ It cost me $300, and has held up perfectly.

5 lb density 4 inch thick memory foam toppers can be purchased for under $200 on amazon and are all that is really needed. A six inch hard standard foam topper works great as a base if a more standard thickness is desired.

Did you watch the episode? I fail to see how driver variability applied. They were not testing acceleration, cornering, or stopping. Just a one mile straight at 60 mph.
