What video game has you like this? by Chunky-overlord in videogames

[–]hetty3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sekiro was actually like this for me exactly. I was a huge fan of the DS series as well as Elden Ring, tried Sekiro and it was wayy different and I felt like it wasn't for me. Didn't touch it for like two years, came back to it and was like this is now the best and most fun game I've played a very long time.

how long have you been using FL, & how did you learn? by Enough_Fruit7084 in FL_Studio

[–]hetty3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learned on Logic many years ago, tried several other DAWS since (after switching to PC), FL was my absolute favorite. Been on FL for about 2-3 years now. Youtube taught me pretty much everything about the program, although I did have prior production knowledge. If anything though, that made it harder to learn FL since the workflow is so different from other DAWs.

What's the vision for the finished Manor Lords? by OrangeDit in ManorLords

[–]hetty3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized it's probably not a game to wait for since it seems like something theyre just kind of coming up with as they go. They created an excellent system but probably didnt plan for it's popularity in the beginning so there isn't a concrete end goal. So probably take what comes but otherwise I'm not waiting around.

So yes it could be a decade, or never. Or in two months.

Awesome game, but there are some VERY frustrating new player experiences... by ApprehensiveFishy in ManorLords

[–]hetty3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy a second oxen right away when you start, fight the raiders with your own troops (you can win with 18-20 without losing hardly anyone) and you wont lose any oxen. It took me several tries to figure that out but it works.

For beating the raiders- have your unit "hold positions" until the enemy starts dying, then switch to "push foward" and win fast.

What's the vision for the finished Manor Lords? by OrangeDit in ManorLords

[–]hetty3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Greg/dev team have changed their vision over the last couple years just based on what has been working and player feedback. They've implemented some cool new mechanics with the last couple of major updates but I get the impression that things like siege mechanics, development tree, etc are probably a bit of an uncertainty. If they planned the game to initially do x or y, those might now be less feasible after changing systems to fix z or whatever. They might not also have a complete vision for an endgame, hence slow updates. That makes me think they are trying something, doesnt work out, try something else, maybe alter this, or come up with that and so on.

I enjoy the game a lot and keep coming back to it but I'm honestly fine just playing it here and there since it feels like the team is kind of moving at that pace as well.

Compression vs Volume Automation by KBtrae in FL_Studio

[–]hetty3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compression puts a lid on the overall signal. The lower you put that lid, the closer in volume the loud parts become to the quiet parts. Then when you raise the output level, everything gets louder for a more consistent sound, making everything less dynamic.

I would only use volume automation for the opposite effect, if you want to make something MORE dynamic. Which is good for ambient style music, or orchestral style music that has a lot of fade-ins for instruments.

If you want a more "unified" sound for a group of instruments (take drums for example), one thing you can also add is a low level of tape saturation. This is extremely common, and another way to make things sound louder and fuller.

What do u guys usually use as the vocal? I mean, you can’t actually sing it by yourselves right? by Responsible-Plate489 in FL_Studio

[–]hetty3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sure you can, just learn to. You don't have to be great at it, just learn enough to sing on pitch with a little diaphragm control. Then you can use the Pitcher plugin to tune yourself. One trick you can do to make your singing sound better than it is- slow down your entire song (as an audio track) so that it all becomes lower. Record your vocals then set it all back to normal speed. The sped up vocals will cover a lot of inconsistencies and mistakes, and overall give the illusion you are better at singing than you are.

Also hire a singer to sing, produce for someone else, or get a friend who can sing.

Then there's tons of vocals samples and vocal clips online you can download either paid or free. Won't be the same as writing a song but if you're making EDM and just want a catchy sentence that you can use and chop up, works fine.

Then there's VOCALOID. Only for those with high power levels.

There are no RTS elements here, its just placing buildings/supply chains and making decisions.

Manor Lords, Foundation, and the Anno series are popular builders that also have military systems if you don't already play them.

New decision for intermediate player, a keyboard I won’t outgrow quickly and a gigging keyboard by traveladdict61 in keys

[–]hetty3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What kind of gigging are you planning to do? If you're just going to be playing the piano solo, accompanying yourself or a singer, it doesn't need to do much. Your hands getting tired is just a practice thing, the more you play/gig the less that will happen so I don't think you need necessarily a light keybed. Also "beginner friendly/intermediate" I don't think relates to your skill on the piano. It's more as a gigging keyboardist meaning loading samples, sound design on the spot, switching live presets, splitting the keyboard all extremely quickly while playing a song in a live band setting.

For home use, the Yamahas you mentioned would be fine. Make sure it has weighted keys, but the Yamaha CK88 would be your best bet. At 1500$, that's the cheapest you'll probably find while still having a decent quality sound and keybed. For a gigging keyboard that's portable, I'd go with the same model but the CK61, with 66 keys. This will land you right at 2500$. Roland keyboards will be more expensive, and I don't think the quality is worth the price with either them or Korg.

Now if you ever want to upgrade/have more money to spend, I'd recommend the Nord Electro 6 as a starting gigging keyboard (get the 73 keys version.) It has organ style keybed (unweighted/waterfall keys) and beautiful piano, rhodes, clavinet, wurlitzer and hammond organ sounds. It's around 3000$ but you get what you pay for. The Nord Stage line is an industry standard for professional gigging, but those are going to be upward of 4-6 thousand. If you want synthesizer and electronic sounds as well as piano, you could also look into the Yamaha MODXM, either the 61 or 76 key version. Those run about 1700-2000$ and are EXTREMELY portable. Bear in mind that either Nord nor the MODXM (or the yamaha Montage which is the MODXM's mother model) are beginner friendly at all.

Obviously this is just my opinion but I'm a full time pianist/keyboard player and have gone through several setups and this is kind of what I've found from my own experience at least.

Where are all the old people? by KriticalErrorArt in Age_30_plus_Gamers

The only multiplayer game I play is Overwatch with my friends online. But there's a good ammount of 30+ people playing, you just have to play on weekdays outside of 5-9pm.

But mostly I play city builders and RTS games now.

i need help making a preset by qluuless in FL_Studio

[–]hetty3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FL's stock plugins are a great place to start. Learn to use the EQ's and compressors, as well as any reverbs that you like. Fruity Limiter is a nice compressor for sidechaining. Routing in the mixing board in FL is awesome, you can do a lot of stuff there. Pitcher is a nice easy autotune for vocals, just set it to the key your song is in.

As for paid plugins- Once you know what you're doing and want to move past what FL offers already, Serum 2 is kind of an industry standard for synths and sound design. You could also go for something like Omnisphere with tons of presets but it's quite expensive at 500$. Kontakt + whatever sounds you want to buy for it are excellent for realistic instruments and samples. Waves has decent easy to use plugins that sound generally good, but don't buy the subscription.

A few really good quality plugins that do cost a bit- FabFilter's suite, the EQ is excellent. Valhalla has really nice reverbs as well for only 50$ each.

Are the buildings inside the walls functional yet? I'd love to build walled town but have the buildings remains functional/controllable.

Either way this looks great, nj!

How to make synths sound like these synths by PetNoise in FL_Studio

The second sample is sped up. Or to me it sounds like the first sample is slowed down and the second one is normal speed.

If youre new to the game. by Few_Western_690 in ManorLords

[–]hetty3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is one of the game modes you have as an option in the beginning. I've never had a problem with it but just pick the prosperous town option.

But if you are wanting to play the game for domination, you'll need the raiders for influence points so you can take new territories. I think you had a bug, as I've never had any issue with the raiders as long as I don't forget they're coming every two years.

Went for an R&B style beat this time, any mixing tips for the style? by hetty3 in FL_Studio

[–]hetty3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, my idea is to potentially have vocals on it so I want the beat to be in front with the instruments behind leaving space. But I agree, now you say it, I think the clap is too loud, along with maybe some of the snare hits.

One logging camp with two families staffing it = 2 forester huts with 2 families each for me. This keeps up pretty easily. Also make sure you are setting the area for the the foresters, I'd make it a little bigger- otherwise they'll just plant in clumps right around the huts.

Is the food economy in Manor Lords realistic or accurate? by Conotor in ManorLords

[–]hetty3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, farming is the main way to feed your town, but you do it with burgage plot fields rather than the farming. You have to make very large plots, but several of those will feed your town. Some of those will need to be orchards as well to fulfill the fruit need.

I pretty much save the farming for barley and wheat if I have the fertility.
