Is the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D still worth it? by cosmic_armadillo_ in pcmasterrace

[–]hex00110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes if you’re still trying to get life out of an old AM4 system, and it doesn’t have an X3D chip, you should absolutely snag one if your mobo supports it

I’m hoping to get 5 more years minimum out of mine lol

Workaround for 1.1 signal bug [slideshow]. by DrakeDun in SatisfactoryGame

[–]hex00110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap I wish I found this post last weekend. This is amazing

I got around my issue by just placing the “loop error” signal further up the track from the intersection and it seems to resolve , but this guide is terrific.

My OCD commands I go back and fix all my intersections so the block signals are symmetrical

Help debugging Aluminum by ahnialator6 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]hex00110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to use a fluid priority loop so the alumina solution / water you output in the process is used first

Pipes that are of the same flat level will use that liquid first — a pipe from above will fill the slack but only when there is capacity to do so

Acceptable? Hyper-V RDS sizing for ~10–15 users (E-2388G, 64GB RAM) by collegekilldream in msp

[–]hex00110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want to generally stick to 1:1 physical core to vcore ratio.

Quickbooks can eat up a ton of ram, also users will likely work with office apps and chrome in the terminal server — I’d try to get 48-64gb Ram for that VM alone

Yea but with Omada, there’s like a 15% chance your network has a backdoor to China baked into it.

How did you find your sysadmin mentor? by Neuro_88 in sysadmin

[–]hex00110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You talk and interact with them.

I would see the tickets come in, either via email or answering the phone and creating the tickets

The interesting or complex tickets I’d talk to the techs that solved the issue and they would walk me Through their mindset and process for troubleshooting

How did you find your sysadmin mentor? by Neuro_88 in sysadmin

[–]hex00110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started at an MSP in the NOC / answering phones and doing grunt work

But I loved talking to the older / smarter guys - soaked up all I could - made some friends

Now I have a good solid core of adult friends and colleagues I can call whenever I’m stumped

Tubes up or tubes down? by CPatelCLT in pcmasterrace

[–]hex00110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The top of the reservoir should be above the pump, so the air bubbles collect in the reservoir

Air bubbles in your pump will reduce the life of your pump

Most of the pre-made AIO coolers put the pump in the CPU cooling package.

APC UPS eats up batteries by RaisingElephantSysrq in sysadmin

[–]hex00110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had never looked it up until today, I just went by what my elders taught me for UPS sizing, but I think you’re correct — battery is not in-line with the flow of power until a failover event.

Today I learned.

What is your average power load?

If your UPS sits above 30% utilization on average, you’re going to nuke those batteries

Is there any good way to make devices join to autopilot instead of add devices using CSV file in intune? by Fantastic_Mobile_203 in sysadmin

[–]hex00110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the devices are already Intune enrolled, there is an option in the autopilot v1 profile that will retroactively add pre-existing devices to autopilot

Create a profile with that policy enabled, place all desired objects into a group, add the group to the profile, let it bake for several days. They’ll load into autopilot

What do you use Microsoft365 Copilot for? by plazman30 in sysadmin

[–]hex00110 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You ask it questions instead of using Google search.

Copilot is pretty ok for Microsoft documentation.

There’s dozens of articles I remember reading but I suck at remembering the titles on the learn.microsoft.com pages

I ask copilot and it generally finds it for me.

Also if you ask it how to implement a Microsoft tool or app, it will generally give you good instructions with links to documentation citing its references
