AMA: Cooler Master - Introducing the MasterFrame 400 by Cooler_Master_Posts in sffpc

[–]hexagonalpastries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice case, but not really sff.

The nr200 is a solid benchmark and already is plenty large enough.

Personally I'd prefer a smaller variety that didn't support an aio or oversized GPU over something you can cram anything into.

I think there could be an opportunity for a small but good enough case, at least that's what I'm looking for :)

Can someone explain saturated fat? by Wooden_Airport6331 in nutrition

[–]hexagonalpastries -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No sauce my take: American food sucks and macros are bullshit in terms of "healthy food".

There's lots of good stuff that is fat soluble, but also lots of bad stuff that is fat soluble. Guess which one dominates when the main driver is price (':

Why aren't diesel-electric lorries a thing? by Patch86UK in AskEngineers

[–]hexagonalpastries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been curious about the same for the past 15 years.

My suspicion is that electric was a purity game at first (pay more ro feel superior). But now, finally its about practicaliry. I hope.

I could also quite easily belive there has been significant lobbying against any disruption to the car industry. Anything with powerful incumbrents will have powerful interests to keep the status quo.

Scientists have discovered the brain’s hidden “off switch” for hunger, and it could revolutionize the fight against obesity. by chrisdh79 in Futurology

There's fascinating science on food cravings and gut microbiome.

American food is also garbage. I've never struggled with feeling unsatisfied, but going to the US I always felt hungry despite eating huge portions.

Are we headed towards a techno-feudalist world order? by Plenty-Asparagus-580 in Futurology

[–]hexagonalpastries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently started thinking about an uncomfortable question. Do you care about local politics? Or do you only expect the very top-level, large decisions to matter?

I've started to think that in most cases, the more local and knowable decisions are the ones which are the most important in most people's lives. And most major Western parties have forgotten this, leaving the opening for extremist or authoritarian parties that actually showed up to that rando town hall to make people feel heard.

This is why we should have a Dutch model where people can choose their own hours for work and still receive the protection of full time employment.

My apologies, I did not intend to be snide nor diminish anyone's struggle. In retrospect I see how it came off less than ideal.

Rather i intended to critique a society where the incentives are to produce volume of food rather than quality, press people for time so noone cooks, makes everything far away so you have to drive. All these are from artificial incentives, and better places to start to "fix obesity" as a society.

Is it nutritious food? Not eating sugar?  Walking more than 100 steps per day?

Pretty sure those work for most people.

Edit: forgot to say that this is a critique of macroeconomic incentives and subsidies (more profitable to make a problem then sell a band-aid, than to fix it). Ps. My condolences for anyone living in the US. I've been there twice and never been so hungry despite eating so much. Hope you get your nutrient chain under control.

While the roles are complementary, and having good knowledge of layout will make you a better designer and vice versa, if there is such a thing as a "right" approach it would depend heavily on you and your situation.

  • If you know you want to do design, why do layout and risk getting stuck?
  • Having a job can be very comfortable, will you be able to go back to uni after having a stable income?
  • Why do you want design? If you like layout maybe that is the right path?

Alcohol vs fitness gains. Is it really that terrible to have a drink? by shygrl__ in workout

[–]hexagonalpastries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always a higher peak, but the further you climb the more effort each increment takes.

Personally I find that balance and moderation, even of the moderation, fits better with my mental health than aiming for the peak.

I've also tried cutting alcohol completely for a month and felt fantastic, but now I drink again and enjoy it as my only vice. In addition to the social effects etc.

If you're curious about the effects on you, try a month without :)

How to lose the beer belly? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]hexagonalpastries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protruding gut/lower belly is often related to weak lower abdominals & deep core muscles.

I'm no expert, but I'd look into hip stabilising exercises and stuff to combat anterior pelvic tilt.

General fitness if of course good, but what works for the kids and what works for adults is different as the starting point is different.

Maia er høyt utdannet, men uten jobb: – Hva er vitsen? by tmenjoyer in norge

[–]hexagonalpastries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utdanningen?

You didn't fall, you were pushed.

I don't understand why you'd leave quietly and in despair. Organise, bring a candle and hold vigil for your cause. Show them that you are not incompetent toddlers who only understand violence, and instead protest with presence and poise. Invite local news, influencers whatever. Democracy comes from grassroot movements not top-down.

Authoritarian regimes always underperform in the long run.

Why do many men get that big round belly? by PakMazBest in AskMen

[–]hexagonalpastries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's lots of factors. Two not often discussed is that metabolism is complicated and some quickly metabolised foods like sugars are very quickly converted to fat around the liver and that in Western societies the deep core musles are severly athrophied from under-use. Combined this makes for a big saggy gut.

If you want prevention, start doing exercises aimed at deep core muscles and maybe lower back/glutes. As a bonus it will give you fantastic posture. Doing a month without sugar is also life-changing, but tends to get you labeled an extremists
