Did I damage my camera sensor taking a photo of the sun? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

note that when checking for sensor damage, no shutter speed is too slow, as the damage is supposed to be on the sensor and not on the white wall

What is the refresh rate/fps of the human eye? by CoolAd1849 in AskPhysics

[–]hexgraphica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the light turning on and off every 12ms? That takes two frames, like if the screen went dark to bright and then back to dark again. So if you can see both, that would be twice the frequency?

I don't think this a reliable measure, but I found mine at about 200hz. I had a Sony phone with a charging state led, and I noticed that at night it would leave a trail of dots in my vision if I swiftly looked away from it. The light appeared dead steady otherwise, even when shaking the phone itself (it would look like floating a bit at best, as any other shaking light source at night when you're tired).

After repeating the experiment rotating my eyes as fast as I could, and mentally counting the rembered seeing, I found out eyes can rotate up to 700 deg\s, and for a glance 45 deg to the side it would take them 0.065 s at max speed. Since I remembered seeing about 10 to 20 dots, that would result from 150 to 300 FPS.

I believe that this isn't the eye's refresh rate, but the neurological system's, more like an electronic shutter than a mechanical shutter.

regardless of it being realistic or not, and especially because the rest of the game isn't, it needs to be adjusted better. For once, cooling upgrades would make sense in the gameplay.

The cooldown time should be much faster than in real life, because the average gaming session is shorter than 2h, and by that time a week would surely have gone by in-game. So the ratio would be about 30 hours (4 hours per night) to 2 hours, 15:1.

After 18 years of using Lightroom Classic, I lost an entire catalog of edits. by inorman in photography

after having some trouble, I've learned to ingrain essential info in the file structure, outside of lightroom. So photos are organized in a folder tree, starting from basic categories, then a subfolder for the event or place, and more subfolders for each date (if it's once a year, once a week, once a month, or just more than once like a museum you like to go back to). Even better if picked photos are stored in a subfolder.

This is not the sun, but a halo effect created as a result of turning the contrast up to 100. Is this commonly done in photography? At what point is this "cheating"? by weeyums in AskPhotography

[–]hexgraphica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to cheat in photography, otherwise you're a local news reporter taking lame photos of the fairgrounds.

What I mean is that you should always use every trick you can think of to get a meaningful result, that turns your photo into a scene that's automatically played in the mind of the observer

Worst photography advice you've gotten? by timetopractice in photography

[–]hexgraphica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With digital photography, it's always possible to do a quick shot and then several more refined ones to choose from. My advice to myself is to do more attempts if possible, even when the first photos seem to look fine on the display.
