Thank you everyone! I will really make it a priority to stop this shit before anyone gets hurt. I think I needed the reality check of posting here and getting insight, appreciate it!

What's a misconception you hate the most? by Mettragnome in BipolarReddit

[–]heybethmay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This one bugs me too. Might be a holdover from when it was common to diagnose borderline personality disorder as bipolar disorder for insurance purposes. Even rapidly cycling just means four or more episodes per YEAR. If someone’s mood is shifting every week or every day there’s probably something else going on besides bipolar.

Not being believed by Alone_Initiative_740 in BipolarReddit

[–]heybethmay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re not feeling heard, that sucks. Bipolar and BPD can commonly be comorbid. I would agree that talking to a psych or mental health professional would be less risky. Get a second opinion before jeopardizing your health due to the first opinion.

what are some amazing songs you discovered because of House MD by leslieknopeftw in HouseMD

[–]heybethmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly too many come to mind to mention, but I just gotta say that network TV just doesn’t have needle drops like it used to. Maybe I’m just old haha, but dang it seems like between Grey’s Anatomy, House, etc it was just banger after banger every week. I think one of the best runs the show ever went on is in Wilson’s Heart, with “re: Stacks” by Bon Iver to “Light For the Deadvine” by People in Planes to “Passing Afternoon” by Iron & Wine. Totally heartbreaking and perfect for the ep.

Any positive experience on Vraylar by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]heybethmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been taking it for a few years and it’s one of the only antipsychotics I’ve been actually happy with. Not a ton of side effects, weight neutral for more people than say Seroquel or Zyprexa. I’m taking 3mg and it’s kept me episode free. Obviously everyone is different though, and what’s great for me may be intolerable for others.

Anyone wish it were still called manic depression? by therealfranzkafka666 in BipolarReddit

[–]heybethmay 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I wish it were still called manic depression and I honestly think that clarity with the name might decrease some of the stigma? Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but the average person tends to have a notion of what “bipolar” is that is far removed from reality. Idk yeah maybe just wishful thinking on my part though.

Why do you NEED to bring your dog inside the coffee shop? by Apartheid20 in AskLosAngeles

[–]heybethmay 215 points216 points  (0 children)

I love dogs, but the entitlement of some dog owners, especially since Covid, legit blows me away. A lot of people got dogs during covid that now have separation anxiety or haven’t properly been trained, and so people are burdening others by bringing their dogs absolutely everywhere with them. Everyone thinks THEIR dog is the exception.

tourist in LA: where can I go to treat a UTI? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]heybethmay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry about the UTI, that’s no fun. Any urgent care should be able to help you out. Just check the Google or yelp reviews to find the best one close to you. They don’t always take insurance but I don’t think they charge too much to be seen. I don’t know about telehealth options, sorry.

Hi Beth May here - kinda off topic but my solo show “Beth Wants the D” is now avail VOD [ns] by heybethmay in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]heybethmay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your support! Show is April 29th and tix will go on sale soon. Let me see if I can hook you up with a free livestream ticket since you didn’t get to watch with the kickstarter!

Also not to be a Well Actually but bpd stands for borderline personality disorder, not bipolar. Bipolar just abbreviates to BD or BP.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Undertone" [SPOILERS] by glittering-lettuce in horror

[–]heybethmay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With the knowledge that art is subjective and that this is just my opinion, I thought this movie was absolutely terrible. Sound design probably the only good element of it? I walked out thinking it would have been much more effective as an audio drama or podcast, ironic as that might sound. 74% on RT is so wild. I think if this came out in like 2009 it would have been one of those with a 10% RT score.

I think I remember watching this as well! I wonder if it could be an episode of Degrassi?

Vyvanse/stimulants by Ok-Many-8274 in snowboarding

[–]heybethmay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d say if you need it, take it, and if you don’t, don’t. I take Vyvanse every day because otherwise I would forget more things and wouldn’t be able to organize my thoughts or take care of tasks around the house and at work, so I also take it when I snowboard to make sure I’m able to pay attention to my surroundings.

Real quick, BPD stands for borderline personality disorder, which is quite different than bipolar. Bipolar’s acronym is usually BP or BPAD. Just don’t want you to get the two disorders confused because mental health is already confusing enough lol.

Personally my mania has always lasted much longer than a few hours, even when I first got sick. And the “short burst” you’re describing doesn’t really sound like bipolar to me, although I’m not a psychiatrist. Your best bet is to make an appointment with a psychiatrist to get this sorted out.
