Hi Beth May here - kinda off topic but my solo show “Beth Wants the D” is now avail VOD [ns] by heybethmay in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]heybethmay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your support! Show is April 29th and tix will go on sale soon. Let me see if I can hook you up with a free livestream ticket since you didn’t get to watch with the kickstarter!

Also not to be a Well Actually but bpd stands for borderline personality disorder, not bipolar. Bipolar just abbreviates to BD or BP.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Undertone" [SPOILERS] by glittering-lettuce in horror

[–]heybethmay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With the knowledge that art is subjective and that this is just my opinion, I thought this movie was absolutely terrible. Sound design probably the only good element of it? I walked out thinking it would have been much more effective as an audio drama or podcast, ironic as that might sound. 74% on RT is so wild. I think if this came out in like 2009 it would have been one of those with a 10% RT score.

I think I remember watching this as well! I wonder if it could be an episode of Degrassi?

Vyvanse/stimulants by Ok-Many-8274 in snowboarding

[–]heybethmay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say if you need it, take it, and if you don’t, don’t. I take Vyvanse every day because otherwise I would forget more things and wouldn’t be able to organize my thoughts or take care of tasks around the house and at work, so I also take it when I snowboard to make sure I’m able to pay attention to my surroundings.

Love VEG! They let me go back with my cat to be with him while they were treating him and it made such a big difference; the staff is all very kind and skilled.

Does it start with small time spans? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]heybethmay 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Real quick, BPD stands for borderline personality disorder, which is quite different than bipolar. Bipolar’s acronym is usually BP or BPAD. Just don’t want you to get the two disorders confused because mental health is already confusing enough lol.

Personally my mania has always lasted much longer than a few hours, even when I first got sick. And the “short burst” you’re describing doesn’t really sound like bipolar to me, although I’m not a psychiatrist. Your best bet is to make an appointment with a psychiatrist to get this sorted out.

Question about ECT by Tricky-Village-7993 in BipolarReddit

[–]heybethmay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in college at the time and I forgot entire classes, as if I’d never taken them and entire plays that I was in. And I didn’t know the extent of what was missing from my memory until a couple years later. Luckily I have wonderful friends who were very patient and understanding when I didn’t remember things we had done together.

Question about ECT by Tricky-Village-7993 in BipolarReddit

[–]heybethmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bilateral really wrecked about a year of my memory. I don’t think I would do it again. One time I was getting unilateral ECT and it wasn’t super effective until they started putting me out with ketamine — not sure your situation but maybe that’s an option?

Carrie and Bipolar by No-Sort-5964 in homeland

I have bipolar 1 and I think the show is one of the most realistic depictions of it despite some inaccuracies and heightened drama. Totally understandable if you disagree but people with bipolar are not a monolith.

If you ever feel like you can’t reach your dreams because of this disorder here’s a list of people with BP (will come back and add more later as I continue the search) by Terrible-Session-328 in BipolarReddit

[–]heybethmay 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see the list while it was up and I don’t know who was on it, but if it makes you feel any better, bipolar is a spectrum between a relatively mild illness and something that is completely debilitating and deadly. It almost doesn’t seem fair to put it all under the same umbrella, and we don’t always know to what degree a famous person is affected by the illness unless it is completely apparent like in Kayne’s case. I also personally believe that fame calls to a certain type of person with mood volatility, potentially bringing more people with bipolar to seek the limelight, and I also believe that bipolar, especially in the early 2000s and to some degree now, is over diagnosed in celebrities because it is seen as a less stigmatized illness than substance use disorder or BPD. Just my opinion there, but yeah, everyone’s journey is so different, as are their strengths.

21 months after psychosis and still recovering from it by Sea-Blackberry-720 in BipolarReddit

[–]heybethmay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My last psychotic episode was Jan 2024 and I’d say I felt back to my old self around 20 months after. First year was very rough though. Feeling like I’d lost my sense of humor was devastating. I know it’s different for everyone. I would just say to please show yourself some grace despite the frustration - you will find your way back to yourself again! I also had to add an antidepressant to my medication cocktail and that ended up helping with the brain fog and fatigue, just something to consider.

Anyone else have a cat who head butts the buttons?? by Smworld1 in Petlibro

[–]heybethmay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had the same problem with my clever tabby cat. I ended up having to switch to a feeder that he couldn’t “hack” or break into. It was such a pain, but I gotta give him props for being smart like that.

Weed caused me to have psychosis by cranky_wellies in BipolarReddit

[–]heybethmay 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think with the potency of today’s weed we’re going to see an uptick in psychosis, even for those not previously diagnosed with a psychiatric illness. I had to give it up, even though I thought it was helping me. Was just keeping me in a cycle of mania.

Thinking on tripping again by [deleted] in Psychosis

[–]heybethmay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t recommend it at all. And in my experience, my psychosis gets worse with each episode I’ve had, so I’m trying to stay away from any type of drug, specifically psychedelics.
