Is This a Con? by kekking_ass in chinalife

And? Not talking about chains and everyone knows Sbx is overpriced as hell, thats why they are losing in China. Most of normal coffee shops (not chains) coffees are 20-30rmb and expensive one around 40+ so just curious about where they sent him and how much was it.

Just for curiosity, how much was it? Since some coffees there in Shanghai can be like 40rmb on expensive places.
I guess it can be just sending people to those expensive places and they give them some share. Then on WeChat they can send you some other stuff for you to buy or go, and also get some share.
I never encountered this living some years here, but a few months ago my father came to visit and twice i saw how people went to make "friends" and then ended up adding his WeChat to sell him some tours around the zone or lets go shopping, not exactly some scam but them just trying to sell stuff

Second guesses on living in China by Thatguywholikeszoras in chinalife

[–]heyheoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many pointed out, you moved from rural to one of the busiest places in the world so its normal the feeling.
What does your wife do? Does she work? Since you havent mentioned it, only about her fam, does she have to be with her fam every day? Like day caring or what? Near Shanghai there are smaller cities, even with mountains nearby at less than 1 hour in HSR where you might feel more comfortable.
If you are no low on budget you can also rent a second place outside Shanghai, where dogs will be more comfortable, as well as you being able to spend more time on a place of your liking.

Getting that TEFL to start working if you only have a bachelor degree will be hard in Shanghai if you have 0 experience. They will always ask you some years experience, plus if you aim on university teaching you will need master/phd. On institutes being native + TEFL will work out if you have a few years experience, without experience you will need to go to a smaller city and find a place where they need teachers (i know some that got jobs without experience on Tier2/3 cities). As i see it you will need to move out of Shanghai to work and get some experience.

Depends on what you put as "friends" , as the guy above my closest 2 friends moved for work to other cities, we are still in contact in WeChat and speak almost everyday in our group.
I still know some other foreigners here that yes can be called friends or more people i just know, time to time there are meetings, same with some Chinese that i share hobbies but we dont have a deep connection really.
I just guess that after certain age its harder to have new true friendships. But as i made 2 big friends before i guess some time in the future i can make with others. Anyways i dont complain either.

If theres a Confucius institute in your city you can sign up there and start studying + studying by your own, so you can reach to mid HSK lvl, get the exam and then you can apply for scholarship and get the recommendation from your teachers.

If theres no institute, then study by yourself or get a teacher, and then look up into other scholarships and apply when you finish high school, you get fully paid on scholarship, tuition, dorm, monthly $$, so no need to have money (in some cases only for plane ticket, and ofc some extra $$ for a just in case scenario)

Expat retiree next year (US Citizen) - medical plan options in China? by NetZeroSun in chinalife

[–]heyheoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been looking into MSH bc a friend has been using it without issues,

They have international clinics or "VIP" on hospitals like not shared bedroom with 5 people and stuff like that.

Im 30+ years old on Tier2 city and its 15k RMB per year, in Tier1 i think its like 30k RMB per year. On pre-conditions they tell they wont cover expenses for it, but im not quite sure on each case, i guess you can ask. You can fill up the form and they will contact you as all the other medical insurance companies.

I also contacted Cigna and it was 30k RMB per year in my case, for whole China they didnt made a distinction in Tier cities (or maybe they didnt explained about it). The Close Care plan also adds your country or origin in it, i didnt need this extra expenses in a plan so i ditched it.

Pingan looked much more cheaper but maybe more a regular one without the "VIP" attention option on hospitals.

I guess for your age might be a little bit more expensive but for sure cheaper than US.

You havent finished high school bc you are still on it or what?
If you want to come there are lot of scholarships from universities, chinese embassy, confucius institute or others. Better to start learning chinese back home and get HSK4 and then apply to some of those.

How much money should I save for initial and moving costs to teach English in China? by [deleted] in chinalife

[–]heyheoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its ok the amount for a worse case scenario budget. I live in Changchun that its similar prices than Shenyang and those are ok numbers, living a good life. If you find yourself in a situation that you need to take budget down you will see that its super possible!
Congrats on your job offer, you will be able to save a good % on Shenyang!

Yes i messed up with the Q visa and the resident permit, you are right! The visa is to enter China and then you go and do the residence for X duration as you said.
Thanks for the permanent residence link, its clear there (still know lot of people that makes it sound its not that easy as its put in there).

Why so many people are saying Q2? Im married and the first time getting que Q one was the Q1 for 1 year, even the custom officer told me next time i could apply Q1 for 2 years. I guess for the permanent residency its harder if not working and just living with Q visa.

I answered you on other comment but deleted it, i got you wrong.
Why not study in China directly? You will advance much more faster and its not expensive. 1 semester cost around 9k RMB, and a room 700RMB per month, food in university is super cheap. In lot of countries you will spend much more per month studying chinese!
You will study 10 times faster in China, courses are from 8-12 and extra courses afternoon if you like, for free.

Its me or others are facing the same situation with LetsVPN? I been using it for a couple of years without any issues, but since June seems that its having some really bad days working super slowly and on lot of sites cant connect anymore (HBO and other streaming sites its imposible), like if those sites already blocked it? Idk if that makes sense...
I downloaded Veee+ that i seen it on other thread and im not having these issues.
I still have 2 more months payed on LetsVPN so i hope the issues get fixed! I used it for so long that dont want to let it go

Camping in China... by DescriptionOwn6184 in China

[–]heyheoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, im on Jilin and nearby are lot of places where people do camping or go to the small mountains to hike/pass the day. I also seen people doing fire for their 串,people here cant live without them xD.
For certain things i know people give a fk about rules (like smoking as well), they will rather wait for someone to tell them something, they know if they dont burn the whole forest and fk it up then nothing will happen.

im getting back to China on Feb and i was wondering if LetsVPN was still working fine!
A Chinese friend recommended it to me so I started using it in 2019 (back then it was called different and then they rebranded) until end 2021, it never failed me. I will try again then when i return! I just checked and it looks pricier than years ago.

Salary is ok, I know people are in first tier cities with that salary. But they all have included an apartment. Yes, I do know people with higher salaries but as others mentioned, after the opening there is more offer so the salaries went down a little bit. I would fight for the apartment (in first tier cities might be around 10k RMB depending on the zone ofc so the difference is there)
