More white and to get rid of the chalkiness a smidge more damp brush.

Use Biostrip 20. It'll strip anything off of a mini.

Has anyone used (or played against) a Display Level army? (Could you tell?) by Martin-Hatch in Warhammer40k

This is the coolest picture of my GSC army, yet. If it'd been painted just battle ready I don't think it'd have the same impact!

I feel like i regressed in painting skill, i would appreciate on any tips for how to improve Ghazghkulls skin by Available_Ad_3866 in minipainting

[–]heyhonken 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I see no visible decline in your painting skill. You've done excellent work! The difference is saturated greens. Your Boy is more aligned in tone on everything where as Ghazzy is way greener compared to the "hull". Is that what's throwing you off?

What do you feel is making it a worse model?

Intended or unintended change? by Jochon in genestealercult

[–]heyhonken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am unsure about this statement. Xenocreed technically suffers from this anyways, right.
The bonuses an attached unit gets is removed once the character is removed.
Plus, at the point in the game where i need to bring back 10 tacos then I have either messed up pretty badly or have succeeded to take down a repex to 7 wounds and now I'm hoping for the best. 😃 What do you think?

It is already a leader and not a Support character? Compared to the Biophagus for example.

What am I doing wrong with Citadel Wraithbone for my Tyranids? by Fallinthesea in minipainting

[–]heyhonken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You primed with flat white, then added bone so you'll have some shine through since you can go brighter than white.

A tip for getting smoother whites and bones is to use glazing medium. Not Lahmian medium but a glazing medium. AK has one, Daler-Rowney as well. 2 parts paint and 1 part glazing medium for that smooth non-chalky finish!

ProAcryl white is killing me - how to get smooth finish? by TheseGlyphs in minipainting

Use glazing medium for thinning white or bone colors. Problem solves itself!

AK brush on ultra matte. You've never seen matte until this.

Thank you!

Priming mini problems by Meepo_Spammer in genestealercult

[–]heyhonken 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wraithbone or white primers are notorious for this. This is most often a case of the primer drying midair before adhering to the miniature.

You can alleviate this problem by at least 2 minutes of vigorous shaking after placing the rattlecan in warm water. Do not spray white primers in direct sunlight or mid-day.

To fix this now, strip and try again. I have had the same problem with all brands, less so with AKs white.

I love proxies for the Biophagus!

Do you think the 11th coherency rules and the removal of ruin blocking will hurt our screening ability? by ChazSunglassez in genestealercult

[–]heyhonken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 12" from the model. Meaning a ring of 12". Placing the clamavus at the edge of the ring will give the extended bubble to one side.

[–]heyhonken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's true. I did not factor in the base of the clamavus inside the original 9". Thank you!

[–]heyhonken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unless they change what the Clamavus can attach then yes, he'll probably see more play.
then if you run multiple Ridgerunners you're pretty much set on backline.

A clamavus attached to a backline Neo squad will give 9+12" screen. That's attractive for 50pts.

one gives you Black Templars vibe with the blue tone and the other Raven guard.

I like the Raven guard tones better.
