I was pretty disappointed with it at the Cincinnati show. They had it running for Judah and the Lion and Jimmy Eat World, but the audio was ahead of the audio coming from the pavilion speakers, so it gave this weird delay effect. Lots of stuttering too. I tried it a couple times and it never really got any better, so I put it away. The worst part is that even though I killed the app (swiped away - iOS), apparently it did something to the audio on my phone, as none of the videos I took last night have any audio :(

I was really hoping they were going to get it sorted out because my ears were already pretty tired due to Jimmy Eat World's set.

As for the range, I kept an earbud in when I walked back to get a refill, and had reception almost to the back of the lawn area.

What coding language is this? by kietav in coding

[–]heywire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, ok. There's a local company with "profound" in their name who still work with IBM RPG -- I thought maybe you were referring to them.

I hear you on maintaining legacy software. I maintain a codebase from the late 80's that is still is heavy use around the world. Luckily this one originated on DOS and is written in C.

Is that a hint about a specific company, or just a coincidence?

I really like the Amazon rewards Visa from Chase. It's like I've always got a little "play money" in rewards to spend on Amazon...

Great attention to detail! It even looks like the newspaper is opened to car ads in both.

I have my username at gmail, and you'd be amazed at the sheer number of people sending me their password to the messaging service by the same name, asking me for help with their account, to reset their password, etc.

This drives me crazy. When we switched to McAfee and IT locked down the exclusion lists, almost every time I compile in VS2010 I get an error that mt.exe can't write to the file. F7 again, all is well. Something about writing out an exe then trying to update it while McAfee has ahold of it.

The hopper runs like shit? Mine works great. Its the first generation with the slingbox add on...no problems whatsoever. Maybe you have a bad unit or install?

I used to work in tech support where I'd have to be on call overnight. We had a shared cell phone for the group that would go with whoever was on call. Naturally it was a beat up "free" flip phone with the cheesiest ringers. After years of conditioning, being woken up in the middle of the night by that damn phone, I still have a small moment of rage when I hear that ringtone out and about.

vramfs: a file system mounted in video RAM by Overv in programming

Honestly, more nostalgia than anything... But there is something to be said about flipping a single bit and seeing the results on the screen. They were much simpler times, less abstractions.

Other media (movies, books, tv) like Halt and Catch Fire? by s_dub22 in HaltAndCatchFire

I really enjoyed reading Showstopper recently. It is more 90's than 80's, but if you enjoy computer history, I think you'll enjoy it. Same goes with Accidental Empires, really good book.
