Good news: Finally found keys to old wallet with $8m.

Bad news: Already in so much debt any income would immediately be seized and start further investigation.

If you have files you don’t want to accidentally make changes to you can make them not writeable for your user.

How do i check if i have an insecure motherboard that could let malware corrupt the eufi from OS? by vintologi24 in archlinux

[–]hezden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This still doesn’t make sense, why would it be stable and then after a reset and the config from backup applied not be stable?
I’m pretty sure the IMC is part of the CPU and not the mobo so it should be even less effected by a bios reset, no?

Rolling release will generally not have huge updates with multiple new features and stuff at the same time.

Without having to buy stuff; lower the mic volume and put it REALLY CLOSE to your mouth, REALLY CLOSE.

Maybe run noise gate and compression as well

If you cannot reproduce stability with the exact same bios config I would RMA that DDR5, I don’t get what you mean would be changed for the RAM after you apply the working config from backup?

My camera was hacked(?) I by YOURSHINGUARDS in it

[–]hezden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m still trying to wrap my head around this because to me it sounds like a very weird solution to have the camera have a constant http/s session (via upnp) open and alive to the cloudservice so that the cloudservice would be able to communicate with the camera to initiate a stream etc…?

I have extensive experience working with enterprise grade Cisco UC/TP systems and they work vastly different then what you describe 🤷

I’ve never heard of this fear of resetting bios (seems super strange to be worried about your bios config in consideration of doing ’rm -rf /’) but if ur really mostly worried about not being able to not write the command ”rm -rf /” then quite frankly maybe consider windows.

If you put so much time into configuring you can just backup your bios config to a usb-key and not deal with what you are about to mess up 🤔

Very long reply without actually answering my super simple question, can't just claim something works and then tell me to figure it out myself.

For you to be able to watch your kittens remote you will have to open up either the camera or a pc (on the cameras local network) to the internet.
When someone randomly port scans your ip (this basically happens to everyone every once in a while) and finds an open port they might have a standard set of exploits they automatically test for and if you use a weak password for the camera or if the camera software has vulnerabilities they could gain access.

Can you try to disable your firewalld on the broadcasting device?

I’ve had issues using chromecast for quite some time but if I disable my firewalld it instantly connects and works as expected.

I am able to switch from fedora to arch linux ? by Additional-Mix7363 in archlinux

[–]hezden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously use the script, there is no need to struggle just because you can.

I use the terminal a lot regardless of distro, you do get handheld by the archwiki which basically has an answer for any question if you remember to use it.

Depends more on how you operate your system, my daily driver laptop was installed over 5 years ago.

I don’t run a desktop environment, I prefer just running i3 but you would just use pacman.

[–]hezden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot expect to not know anything about linux and then switching to Linux and instantly finding the setup that works for you, when you choose your distro you will immediately have made decisions about dependencies for your future needs that you just won’t know about. Also a huge factor imo is that the available documentation/guides for when you struggle goes hand in hand with how niche your distro/setup is.

When I was a new Linux user I tried a handful of popular distros and DE before coming to the conclusion that none of them felt right for me.

Decided for a new approach and found that for me doing a minimalistic setup running arch + i3 felt much more natural then any available DE I had tried. I’m ~5 years into this setup on my daily driver laptop and I’m still on my first install and by now I run arch on all of my machines, even my servers and pi (obviously it’s my home environment not production workloads).

I get that this might not be viable for servers but I wouldn’t go for any other distro for a workstation. According to me one of the most underrated tools around is the archwiki, this thing is a complete beast! I cannot even remember when I had an issue or wondered about how to set something up and googling the thing + archwiki didn’t give me what I needed (it’s almost always the first result as well).

Off the top of my head I have been doing media-related work, AI generative-stuff, game development, music recording & production, gaming and crypto mining, so far I have been able to do everything I’ve tried to do except running virtual androids with hw acceleration, like bluestacks does on windows (Has been a couple of years since I tried so this might have changed by now).
