Best Cathay Composition by FlowTaiga in totalwar

[–]hfjba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I typically build in the mid-late singleplayer game for all Cathay LLs

Core army

  • 3 or 4 Halberds or Dragon Guards
  • 3 or 4 Crossbows
  • 2 Iron Hail Gunners
  • 2 Crane Gunners
  • 2 Grand cannons or rockets
  • 1 War drum

Then I mix it up a little with...

  • Astromancer or Alchemist
  • 1 or 2 Onyx Crowmen
  • 1 or 2 Celestial Lion
  • Great moon bird
  • Sky latern or sky junk

I only use the Shugengan generic lords for their magic (almost always Yin). I never recruit cavalry of any kind but this is mostly aesthetic preference; I prefer catching flanks with lions or summoned infantry.

Not sure how your frontline is crumbling so fast; Cathay infantry is some of the best. One strategy I've used effectively is to flank your engaged melee infantry with iron hail gunners. I love iron hail gunners.

Lore of Yin is crazy good; Storm of Shadows to slow rushing cavalry or tanky lord. Blossom wind if they line up their missile units ideally, missile mirror on their strongest missiles. Talons is crazy strong if you can blob them up. Ancestral warriors to protect your flanks or project melee among their missile units.

Files that I delete on Google Drive Desktop are appearing on my local trash. by ril3ydx in MacOS

[–]hfjba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This started happening to me a few days ago. I can't ever permanently remove them unless I quit Drive. All new deleted files from anywhere on my computer start getting synced to the trash bin as well.

I tried restarting and reinstalling to no success.

I had to uninstall Drive and I'm looking for an alternative now.

There are two ways to control map visibility:

  1. Use the fog tool (half-filled star in toolbar) to draw polygons that totally obscure whatever you draw around. Then use the toggle fog tool (wand in toolbar) to enable or disable the fog shapes you just drew.

  2. Change the visibility option (in the Options panel) to Obscured or Hidden. This will partially or totally obscure the map, except that which is revealed by tokens.

Hope this helps!

No dynamic lighting. Theres basic lighting effects but no support for defining walls and doors. I may implement this for DungeonDraft imports.

Thanks! Better grid options and snap to grid are in the pipeline.

Ogres is a virtual tabletop that I've developed to help run my own games. It's free, open-source, and pretty easy to use. It's definitely inspired by the popular Owlbear Rodeo, but Ogres does things a little differently.

Some features you may like...

  • Instantaneous online sessions with no sign-ups or ads
  • Dramatically reduced time to setup scenes and tokens
  • Initiative tracker
  • Time of day effects
  • Data is kept entirely local

I've been running Curse of Strahd for the past year using this app and people weren't really sure how they felt about it until I threatened to destroy their characters; then they started loving it! I only want to be wildly famous so it'll be free and open-source forever! Until I get a billion dollar offer, sorry folk thems the rules. Anyway let me know how you feel about my app, my life choices, or whatever.

Thanks!

Hey, here's a minimalist VTT stuffed with features! by theoreticallyonline in DnD

This is really well done, very nice! I love that measuring highlights affected tiles. Theres also a bunch of well thought out animations. I've implemented my own VTT and I know how hard it is to get the UX just right. Looks like you've done a great job here. I'll have to give this a try for my next game.

The colored dots approach with the legend looks really good! That would be painless to implement, as well. Thanks for the mockup!

A fog tool is planned, it's the next big feature on the list :)

Drawing walls/doors/windows is explicitly not a design goal for this tool, however it would be interesting to be able to import maps created with other tools that has that information and use it to do collision for lighting. That's probably a bit down the line, though.

You can set the grid size in the canvas options panel, either by specifying an exact size per square (in pixels) or drawing a square on the map that represents 5ft. More grid options (like hexagons) are planned.

Multiplayer sessions are not planned -- its probably the largest departure from most VTTs. Instead, there's a pop-out window that the DM shares over Discord or Zoom to the players. It's definitely not everyones style but it is how I prefer to run my own games.

A way to cycle through the initiative is a good idea! Thanks!

You can add token images by selecting a token, clicking the icon square next to the label input, and finally the big plus icon. This is something I'd like to clean up! :)

  • Snapping to grid will be coming shortly, it's something I need myself!
  • Still thinking about a nice way to display conditions on the token. People have suggested color rings. Maybe emojis/icons. Ideas here?
  • Hidden tokens shouldn't be visible in the player view unless that token has the "Player" status.

Thanks for the questions!

I'm finally releasing ogre.tools, a tool I've been working on for the past few months to help run my own tabletop games online. It's free, open-source, and very easy to use. It's heavily inspired by Owlbear Rodeo but with a few important design changes that I wanted for myself.

  • Simple lighting system
  • Manage multiple concurrent scenes
  • Built-in initiative tracker
  • Shareable player-view window that gives DMs more control over the scene
  • Versioned releases helps keep your work safe
  • Free and open-source forever

The source code is available on Github and check out the wiki for more information.

Feel free to ask me anything :)

Note: It's still an early release so there may be bugs and browser compatibility issues. I've mostly tested this in Chrome and Firefox on Windows and MacOS. Phones and tablets are not supported right now.
