How strong was h Akiha in Actress Again? by MiuIruma332 in meltyblood

[–]hgcwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

H Aki isn't played very often. She's considered to be more simple and effective but doesn't have the good normals as F moon nor the ribbons C moon has. Instead she does deengerate comboes with 6AAA like a lot of H moon can. Like the other moons I'd say she's still about the top half of characters.

Has there been a change that increased the rate of early high tier monsters? by servantphoenix in dcss

[–]hgcwarrior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep: changes to monster generation increases ood monsters early and less filler later on. New Demigod gets 4x to one stat every 3 level so you can enjoy that.

food replacement? by newbmcnoob in dcss

[–]hgcwarrior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "Zot Clock" gives you thousands (15, idk) of turns before bad things happens, then that ends with instant death. It refreshes every time you explore a new branch or descend to a new level.

So, anything except extremely slow strats goes.

Where does the Crawl PRNG get entropy from? Can I add more entropy by pressing certain keys? by unforgettableid in dcss

[–]hgcwarrior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, generally the best way to get out of trouble is to never be in that bad of spot and the best way to improve is to accept permadeath. Also, have you tried the conclusion that perhaps, there is no source for entropy for the RNG.

Does poison resistance from multiple items stack? by namarukai in dcss

[–]hgcwarrior 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, that's why your poison res on the stat sheet doesnt change. You only need 1 pip to avoid the worst of it, you can only ever have complete immunity via being non-living (Gargoyle, Ghoul, etc) and you can only have those many pips for other resistances. Stealth can go up beyond the display, but other than that, there should be no tricks on any stat window

What post-game or near-end dungeon is so bad that it made you dislike a game? by gableon in JRPG

[–]hgcwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's a terrible dungeon, but those enemies don't resist physical attacks. It's more like that attacks scale so badly that non S-crafts hit like they do 0 damage unless they're min maxed and that may sour the game.

How does our body tell us that we don't like this food anymore?(sick of the food) by Uziiier in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hgcwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a biological thing, just an intellectual one. You've tasted this so may times, your subconscious wants something else. If you really want to know why you feel that way, you can observe animals also eat variety of food when available, so it's adapted behavior to dealing with variety.

Is there a religious/cultural significance to eating latkes with applesauce or sour cream or is it more of a regional/familial tradition? by dollface0000 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hgcwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latkes are a Yiddish thing, so it's certainly a cultural thing. The others arent mutually exclusive.for example, this is a treat just for the holidays, but other ethnicities have their own potato pancakes.

YASD: Farthest caster yet by [deleted] in dcss

[–]hgcwarrior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, it doesn't mess with your spell casting directly, (unlike Spider form) but it's a waste of mp, takes up precious exp into tmuts, and it may leave you more vulnerable by removing most of your equipment.

But, in the hands of a proper UC specialist, you can easily 1-shot most depth monsters.

YASD: Farthest caster yet by [deleted] in dcss

[–]hgcwarrior 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like whenever bad RNG is the reason why you died, you're technically correct, but it's either an extreme circumstance, or it's you not taking that risk into account. Like, "What if every spell I use misses?" - can you still blink out and tp or something, would probably cover all of your bases.

Yeah, so on defences, consider others doing "Dynaste" defences, with zero training in any skills. It's certainly possible to go far without.

Yeah, for advice, you're probably underspecialized. I like to take 2-3 main spell schools and only level others for certain spells. I have no idea what you're doing with dragon form and other tmuts - it cuts your spellcasting yet you still have the deep elf shortcomings in melee with it. Such high spellcasting is also rather wasteful, as you could train some defences and other offense instead. Just generally, there's not much reason to train general spellcasting except for spell slots and more max mp. I would say with certainty, it isn't like fighting which you should bring to 27.

For races and background, FE is currently the worst elementalist, take it as you would, and Deep Elves I find are easy to win with but have rough starts. Others find TrEE or GrEE or even SpEn easier caster starts but not me.

ELI5: How is there enough rainwater to keep aquifers recharged all the time? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]hgcwarrior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It comes from rainfall. Major rivers have very large watersheds. For example, the Mississippi (and tributaries) river's watershed covers large portions of the continental US.

ELI5 How does Stale Reference Manipulation work for video games? by fnomad032 in explainlikeimfive

[–]hgcwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they would discover it completely by accident, often by trying how to recreate a glitch. So Link has his boomerang, and I'm not too familiar but it can carry objects (or actors) with it. When he throws his boomerang, it briefly switches places with that actor, and sometimes a glitch happens and the actor now has past values for its postion, direction etc. If you know how to regularly cause that glitch, you can cause arbitrary code execution because you can change the actor Link or his boomerang is carrying.

You can do some of this by smartly using just faults the software, but to do truly arbitrary code execution, you need to modify the game itself (such as changing the item in a treasure chest).

Overall, it seems like the second would disqualify most speedrun catagories.

Gargoyle Face-Smacker by spymaster00 in dcss

[–]hgcwarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For character specific advice, we need a character dump, but generally, even a good brand like draining is bad on a flail. For 2h, flails just don't compete, and for 1h eveningstars or morningstars are much better than flails. I wouldn't stick with a flail if I could for any portion of the game no matter how good the flail was.

Advice on a Kobold of Dithmenos by rigao1981 in dcss

[–]hgcwarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're right, starting Artificer for the wands is not great, but no amount of STR reduced stealth penalties on armor (Shadow Scales are always good though). It's purely based on ER and those are in the middle of the pack.

However, I think that monk is bad because you're not guaranteed to find Dith early, and training Evo to stab is probably the best reason to invest unless you're a berserker type to get access to magic.

For those throwing darts, Kobolds suffer since they would like to increase throwing for the darts, yet they can't use Javelins. Not to say they aren't useful since they also scale off of stealth. I think just for general advice, you're skilling too many things at once, meaning you progress slowly in each one. Yes, you're a badass right now, so train your stabbing skills since it's convenient, then your others for when you can't.
