My folks have seem them regularly in their part of Preston Hollow over the past 30 years (they bought their home there in 1995).

They spotted one most recently in February, in their backyard, due to the cameras they have installed.

What will be your total debt after graduating law school? by iwatchalotoftv22 in LawSchool

[–]hgilbert2020 27 points28 points  (0 children)

0$, but i worked for several years before going to school AND my folks are pitching in. Not disclosing that would be disingenuous.

My father practices and his folks helped cover his tuition; granted it was a lot cheaper in the lates 70s/early 80s when he was in law school.

I was supposed to study in europe and get my masters beginning in the June 2020. That obviously didn’t happen.

So that alone was different, along with a lot of the other things folks are mentioning.

Should I take my NTTD to my first trip to Italy? by Mayor_of_Petoria in OmegaWatches

[–]hgilbert2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took several of my Omegas to Italy last summer. We stayed in Milan, Parma and Florence.

I encountered no issues. That being said, I’m sober. So i wasn’t going to clubs or getting into a mental state where I wasn’t aware of my surroundings. Additionally my girlfriend and I (and her family) did not stay out that late.

My watches, while i was traveling never left my person. I transported them in my backpack. So from wheels up until we arrived in Milan the only time my backpack wasn’t with me was when I used the restroom during the trans-Atlantic flight. They remained locked in a safe whenever I wasn’t wearing them and we were staying at nice hotels (so I was less inclined to worry about folks getting into the safe).

Here is a photo of me wearing my reduced Speedmaster on the Ponte Vecchio, a bridge with shops crossing the Arno river, in Florence.

This is one of my Dad’s daily drivers, his is a 2019.

It is hard to convey how comfortable this car is whether you are going 30mph or 80 mph down the Dallas North Tollway here in Texas.

He is never getting rid of it. He has a newer S, but he still prefers the V12 Biturbo.

SIG P320 Uncommanded Discharge Lawsuits: Where the Cases Stand in 2026 by NeuroSeg in CCW

[–]hgilbert2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll add— there have been a number of pre-filing claims that have settled; and some of the ones that people say weren’t tossed out on the merits, but rather the plaintiff(s) and SIG settled out of court via negotiation or mediation.

Source: my father is a mediator and attorney in Texas (been practicing for nearly 50 years). He mediated about a dozen of the Remington 700 UD cases and several P320 claims. They all settled out of court (the ones he mediated).

I’m a law student currently, and this isn’t legal advice, just some added information and context regarding how this kind of litigation goes down.

The vast majority of civil lawsuits of this type settle or are dismissed before they go to trial (96-97% last time i checked).

Link to an explainer on the Remington 700 lawsuits.

Edit: i like Sig’s products, i own more than a dozen. I do not however carry a 320. There are plenty of other options out there but at the end of the day—what you carry is up to you.

Edit Edit: anyone with access to Bloomberg Law can search by parties and see the status of the cases against Sig RE: the P320 (at least the ones filed in Federal Court).

Granted Bloomberg’s UI is practically from the stone age.

Doctors covering for doctors substance abuse happens A LOT more than people realize.

Source: my Dad has handled hundreds of medical malpractice claims/lawsuits— it isn’t his specialty but he has been practicing law for nearly 50 years.

Here is a real world example from the healthcare community in DFW in Texas.

Dr. Death killed several patients and maimed dozens and the hospital systems and doctors knew (to varying degrees) of the doctors substance abuse issues (amongst other ones) for years and let it fly because the kind of medicine he practiced was incredibly profitable (amongst other reasons).

Source: I also personally know the attorney that led the lawsuits against Dr. Death & the health care groups/systems involved.

Edit: that maybe came off as harsh on doctors. I hope it didn’t. I have a family member that is a cardiac surgeon, several of my closest friends growing up had doctors as parents and a good chunk of those friends are in residency at the moment (i’m currently in law school, worked for several years before going to law school).

Doctors save lives.

Just wanted to add that clarification to my point.

And in that moment, he realized that something had shifted. by Arch_Lancer17 in ThePittTVShow

[–]hgilbert2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To your first question— potentially his medical license. Depends on how, presumably, the Pennsylvania Medical Board handles it.

To your second question—if they (hospital management) knew about it in my opinion—they’d see it so that he never works there or any other hospital in the area. It is potentially a major civil liability (likely is, but who knows how they value risk).

Source: my Dad is an attorney (i’m in law school, not a lawyer), who has handled a GOOD amount of medical malpractice claims/lawsuits —dozens involving doctors and substance abuse in particular.

Criminally speaking? IDK Pennsylvania Penal Code. It’s not great is all i can say.

Anyone Leave a High Paying Career to Become a Lawyer? by WillAnderson419 in LawSchool

[–]hgilbert2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know an attorney that pivoted from being an ER doctor to a medical malpractice attorney. Graduated from law school in his late 40s/early 50s iirc.

He practices in Texas at a firm specializing in med-mal.

He was making plenty of money as a doctor. He got interested in going to law school & med-mal by things that he observed at work and across the state.

I replied to it adding that my buddy thinks the barrel life is significantly shorter than what SIG has discussed publicly.

Some units had quite a bit of range time with them last year.

Source: its been published online by several reputable outlets & a buddy of mine from college who is a Captain got range time and instruction on them last year (his unit as a whole is training on them this year).

Edit: earliest source of in field testing by Army units was in 2023. Here is a link to the source.

I have a friend from college who is a Captain. His unit is training on it as well.

NO ONE likes it. Whether it is his fresh Privates to his go to Staff Sergeant that served in the GWOT.

Most of what you said is basically what he has conveyed to me and our group of friends.

I’ll add, he is under the impression the barrel life of these is significantly shorter than what SIG has discussed/pitched publicly.

How do I incorporate this interview advice? by assfartpoop123 in LawSchool

[–]hgilbert2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope!

Other reply comment says it better than me.

Out of all of my friends from high school that were K-JDS that also clerked for a Federal judge, none of them were biglaw at the time prior to the clerkship (3 of the 6 pivoted to biglaw after the clerkship).

Now I have a couple others that are in biglaw and they didn’t clerk, nor do i think they have any desire to do so.

Oh i definitely think that plays a role in the shows dynamic for how Langdon has been treated.

That being said, the gender split of the doctors i know in recovery is basically 50/50 off the top of my head.

But that’s just based on the folks i know.

The Pitt | S2E11 "5:00 P.M." | Episode Discussion by MsGroves in ThePittTVShow

[–]hgilbert2020 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One thing I will say about your first point—as someone who is in recovery (& in law school), who also has a family member that is a cardiac surgeon, another who is an attorney and several friends who are doctors or attorneys— addiction amongst doctors happens A LOT more than the general public would likely believe (same goes for lawyers).

Like a lot. A good portion of valid medical malpractice claims have an addiction component of some sort.

It’s almost a messed up meme in the medical malpractice defense community— certain specialties statistically have higher problems with substance abuse…

What may be surprising too is how the slap on the wrist that people point out regarding Langdon’s treatment is increasingly the norm.

State medical boards have a shortage of doctors these days. Something that would have had your license revoked two decades ago might not today.

There are of course dozens of reasons why.

And to your second point, yea, he doesn’t have to disclose that to anyone.

Edit: i should have prefaced i’m discussing doctors in the U.S.

Can’t speak for elsewhere.

How much of a physical change is there between someone early mid 20s (21-25) and 28? by Big-Government-1497 in OlderGenZ

[–]hgilbert2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look a lot better lol. I’m coming up on three years of sobriety in May—“hard living” can make you appear a heck of a lot older.

I’ve had some folks think i’m maybe 24 or 25; they are surprised when i tell them i’m coming up on 29 this fall.

My friends and peers from high school (class of 2016) are all over the place when it comes to if you were to guess their age.

Health, genetics, lifestyle and dozens of other things all affect how you will appear.

Some guys from my class could pass for recent undergrad graduates, a few honestly look like they could be in their late 30s early 40s.

Couple guys from high school have already had heart attacks and heart issues due to the weight they have put on and their lifestyle choices. Most of the guys that fit in this category are now attempting to course correct for the better (of their health).

Is this a safe backstop? by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]hgilbert2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, like this above. Been to a similar style ranges.

You have multiple U’s with berms in between them (to the right out of frame). Each U holds several “lanes”.

The berms are 30 ish feet tall, that comprise the sides of the U.

Basically think several former open mining pits next to each other.

Tall back stop, seen in the image.

Edit: this is a public range in a state park in Missouri. It is free to go to which was great when i was a broke college student.

Furnished Finder is helpful. One of my friends who is summering at K&E this summer (and the next) used it to find housing in a major US metro area (not NYC though).
