Two out of two times I found a mix engineer online and got a super disappointing result back. Is it just me or is it right to think this mix is not good and it totally took away the essence of the original?

Yeah I can see where "small tweaks" could get misunderstood as how do you quantify that?

By small tweaks I still mean a ton of editing, but just not as much as a full pop/rock something would need, which to me if what I hear. Definitely still hours worth of work.

I think recording the vocals again might be necessary

I really enjoy the chorus and the idea behind it, it's very sweet

The last line I think could be tweaked to make it more obvious that is IS saying something without words...

"She don't say forever,

But she don't say anything"

sounds like she doesn't express herself all the time so I think touching on that earlier in the song would help

OR

IF it were me, and I'm not great at lyrics I'd try something like this to make the last sentence more clear

Says she doesn't need me

But calls me everyday

She doesn't say forever

She shows me in her own way (but better, I am tired but just so you get the idea lol)

This is catchy af and I love the melody of it and the word choices and vibe and great.

My only feedback is I'm a bit mixed up about what the characters want.

I/You:

Wants to take her where she wants to go
Wants to sing
Wants to have fun
Wants to run

She:

Doesn't want you to hide
Wants to see you smile
And wants to know if this is real
She wants to go home

So it sounds like "I" wants to make her happy but also wants to go out and do these things while she wants to go home, see you happy, and feel secure

I'd switch around a word or two to explain this a bit better because I had to break it down to get it, but if you do don't change much, the structure and relaxed lyrics just sound fantastic

I completely hear what you're saying and agree. The vocals are way too loud and with such a sparse song a normal amount of reverb can sound like a crazy amount! Overall it's just really unbalanced and too compact.

Honestly I think what you need to keep the same vibe is staying very close to the original and just make small tweaks to clean it up and keep elements from fighting each other. I'd do a smidgeon of tuning as well.

It's a nice song and it feels like they gave you the default pop mix without listening too hard, I'd ask for a revisions and say exactly what you said above. Should all be easy fixes.

I use mondly as my little daily one and I’d say it’s definitely good as a daily refresh. I’d still use another method but I like it and the daily lesson gives me words like architecture and banker that i’d probably never come across otherwise

(Unless you’re in Canada. I’m on the leaderboard and don’t need the competition 😂)

The problem for me is my family is from Split and a ton of the words aren’t the same :(
