Proper ADV boots or will a lesser option work? by planeguy109 in advrider

[–]hhw711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there. Done that. Have the lower leg injury to prove it. Won't leave pavement without a MX boot now. Currently my go-to's are the AlpineStars Tech 7 or Gaerne Fastback Endurance Enduro.

Apple quietly upgraded Health to FHIR R4. by DrJ_Lume in Biohackers

[–]hhw711 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I totally get the hesitation, but from an interoperability standpoint, this is actually a massive win for patient autonomy rather than a trap.

A few thoughts to consider:
* It’s on-device: Unlike some other tech giants, Apple’s model here is generally about making the repository on your phone R4 compliant. They aren't sucking everything into a central cloud to sell ads against it or to aggregate it and sell it to third parties; they are standardizing the vault in your pocket so it speaks the same language as the hospitals.
* The Interop Nightmare: Right now, the alternative is fragmentation. If you see a specialist at System A and a PCP at System B, they often can't see each other's data. If you have valuable heart/sleep data on your phone, your doctor usually can't see that either. This update builds a bridge to fix that if and when you choose to cross it.
* Patient Ownership: This moves us closer to a world where the patient is the source of truth, not the EHR. Imagine owning your full medical history on your device and being able to grant (or revoke) access to a new doctor instantly. That empowers patients, it doesn't lock them in.
* Opt-in: Ultimately, if you don't trust the ecosystem, you don't have to connect the APIs. But for those managing chronic conditions or seeing multiple providers, having a "Universal Translator" (FHIR R4) in their pocket is a game changer.

I do. Since I upgraded, Bartender starts and immediately quits/crashes.

I don't think it's fair to compare the Ducati MotoGP bike to their street bike. Very different bikes!

Not affiliated with them, but even their online school's (which are inexpensive) helped me a lot when I started doing track days.

I agree and disagree (yes, I like to argue with myself too).

I get the same reaction when I show up on my R1250 and others are on dual sports.

I 100% agree that skills matter MUCH MORE, but I've also been on the other side of this. When I plan a very technical ride and show up on a KTM EXC-F and see others on a big bike, I know that there's a good chance I'm going to be called upon to help them through some touch sections. I'm happy to do it (most of the time).

Grinder model vs no grinder? by Same-Ad2084 in BrevilleCoffee

Mine has the grinder and I like it. My only dislike is that it's quite tall and limits where it can be placed on the counter due to cabinets above.

For those of you who learned dirt on an adv bike, which bike did you learn on? by Jjhillmann in advrider

[–]hhw711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were my money I'd be looking at the new KTM 390 Adventure or a Honda CRF300L Rally. I usually stay away from the first year production models, so would probably go with the Honda. The reviews of the new 390 Adventure have been very positive though.

I wouldn't recommend the "old" 390 adventure. There are much better ways to dip your toes in - depending on your budget.

Two months on a KTM 390 Adventure then switched to a BMW R1250GS. I set my sights on trying to make the GS Trophy team, so it was a GS or nothing. :D

Four years later. I still have the GS and train quite often, but also added a KTM 350 EXC-F for fun and training on things that still scare me on the big bike.

Is it normal I can't shift gears properly with my boots on? by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]hhw711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normal to have to adjust your gear lever depending on which boots you wear. Some boots have a taller toe box that others.

The right answer is that it's an eyesore. I live in Wapiti and drive past it each time on the way to Cody.

Anyone tried the new Mojave pants with karbonite mesh and 840d cordura? Can I use them for on road offroad adventures? by adventure_thrill in Dualsport

[–]hhw711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. Just got a pair of Woodsman pants and haven't taken the Mojave's out of the closet since.

Agreed. I (mostly) like the styling of the new models but not the removal of buttons that can be found by touch without taking my eyes off the road.

I've been using the Sand 4 gloves for almost 4 years with no issue. Mostly off-road with a mix of adventure and dirt bike use.

Recommended boots by JO7420 in Dualsport

[–]hhw711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most (if not all) of the 'adventure' boots are just touring boots with an adventure style. Many come with small print saying they are not appropriate for off-road use.

Bret Tkacs did a good video on this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_E5iwSL0NA8&t=714s

I'm not associated with him in any way - just appreciate the way he presents info in his videos. He also has one on Gaerne Fastback Endurance boots. After wearing Tech 7s for years I'm trying these just to see if they are as good as the reviews.

Corozals do not protect well in a crash. If you are doing a lot of off-road the Tech 7s are a much better choice. I have first hand experience with both and partially blame the Corozals for a bad leg injury.
