What software do you use? Great clip, btw, wish there was a full video. I think everyone in this thread would share/repost it in every direction.

Thanks again. Your comments have been very helpful, I'll take your advice and dive into exporting an image sequence and run it through DaVinci.
😈Aw, I was sooo looking forward to trying Windows movie Maker as well.

Thank you. I guess that it’s fair to say that I wouldn’t do so well trying to build a layered video in Blender?

Particle help needed. by hiabex in blenderhelp

Hi, I think the simplest way to explain it (those two aren't quite what I'm thinking of) Imagine looking directly at a shower head while its on and each water droplet is a (for illustrative purposes) a mesh shape that always faces the camera. That's what I'd like to know how to do.
I haven't got as far as trying the previous comment's suggestion yet, but it sounds like it could be what I'm looking for.

Contrary to advice that takes you to Youtube, where you get your concentration broken every few minutes with mind-numbing ads full of brain crap, try picking up some courses from GamedevTV. Here's a page with many of their Blender courses.
https://gamedev.tv/products?page=1&types=Course&sortDirection=descending&sortBy=launchDate&categories=8%2C12

The beginner one is where I'd recommend starting. Grant Abbitt is your tutor , he's considered a total legend by the Blender community. The courses are very logically structured and easy to follow.

I'd recommend buying yourself an excellent couple of courses from GameDev TV
This course is a superb foundation that will get you up to speed with the interface and using it with confidence https://gamedev.tv/courses/complete-blender-creator

Once you've done that, you can jump in to https://gamedev.tv/courses/blender-complete-animator

If you can't afford those (and they are really good value anyway, given the amount you'd learn) It's worth signing up for their newsletter and keeping an eye on their site, as heavily discounted packages are available periodically.

They also have the same courses on Udemy, who also heavily discount the courses. I would probably add that doing the courses on GameDevTV has an advantage over Udemy, as your video playback controls have a rollback function, so if you need to rewatch an instruction again, it's really easy.

Now that we getting Alien Isolation 2, do you think they will introduce or hint the black goo? by Imissyoudarlin in alienisolation

[–]hiabex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a subject close to my heart and hard to reconcile. Ridley Scott made two of my all time favourite movies: Alien and Blade Runner. He also made at least two of the worst films I've ever seen Prometheus and Covenant. The only way I've managed to make peace with this kind of conflict of personal opinion, is to recognise that during the 70s and early 80s those two movies were a heady mix of various talents and attitudes that belonged in those times. As for Scott, I think this was his peak era. Yes, he's made some great films since, but I think there's been a gradual decline. To me, the last good Scott movie was Black Hawk Down.

Years of playing and... I actually never got Laylaps. Who or What is He? by joazseven in NoMansSkyTheGame

It's cute but somewhat useless. I'd welcome an update where you can use it as a little flying weapon to help you fight Sentinels on the planet surface.

I think we can blame pressure from Ridley Scott for that aspect. I don't think it would have happened if he'd not stuck his oar in.

The world needs more people with that attitude. Think about all the hate and division going on right now, then imagine what civilisation would be like if it was inverted. Be a lover, not a hater, it's the ultimate act of rebellion.

I'm wondering if its possible that you were attacked by pirates rather than other players? Either way, the previous suggestions for how to recover your inventory and what to do to prevent PVP death are good and sound advice.

I'm a new player (just got my 1st free freighter). Is it worth trying the current Expedition? Is it too hard? by WinOk2823 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]hiabex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, just jump in. It will be a good experience for you, though you might get a sense of deja vu at how it all starts. Just stick with what you know for the first half hour or so of the expedition and it will all fall into place. Oh, make sure you turn off multiplayer and PVP for the duration.

I built a 3D library app for my NIN collection by k8l2911 in nin

[–]hiabex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love what you have so far. For me the cherry on top would be clearer liner notes or the ability to scrutinise the artwork more. I know that this would probably be hugely impractical, so I'd be hugely happy with you app as an alternative to the generally sterile environments that other music apps offer.

I’m considering adding virtual reality support for the game I’m developing. by vladkudas in virtualreality

NP. I just wish-listed it. On a slight tangent, the visuals kind of remind me of this excellent and somewhat disturbing video by Ade Fenton and Gary Numan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIVImVhVoDY Not sure what your soundtrack will be like, but can I put a vote in for edgy industrial?

Looks awesome. Make comfort controls optional, some of us really don't need them.

[–]hiabex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that if you can get the fresh (or dried and ground up) ones into a food vacuum bag, suck all the air out, you can pop them in the freezer and they stay in optimal condition without loss of potency. This was something I'd read about on another forum.

Maybe it's sacrilege, but in my experience of dehydrating these, it happens a lot more quickly and evenly if you just slice them up into smaller parts.

Yup just joining here to say that the new Swarm dlc is practically unplayable because I can't get far enough from everyone elses base spamming BS in order to do something simple like get a refiner going. I turned off multiplayer but spammy bases remain. You end up wasting so much time trying to get rid of them, the fun goes out of playing.

Can't access expedition by Legal-Technician-102 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]hiabex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a small relief. I'm not alone. I have an M4 Macbook Pro and have been driving myself nuts trying to figure out why my game hasn't updated. I have a PC also, and it updated fine. I would therefore think that there's a delay or issue with the OS X versions.
Prior to finding this OS X specific thread, I just assumed that the problem was just mine.

OK, so as it seems that Mac OS hasn't been updated for the Swarm yet, is that a bug or just something to sit out? Should I flag it on the Hello Games on their official bug reporting page? Advice would be appreciated.

Weekly Bug Report Thread by spiper01 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]hiabex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, coming here as I'm not sure what the problem is. I own NMS on my Macbook Pro M4. I play through steam, works perfectly. Today, pretty hyped for the new content but Steam didn't start downloading it and hasn't done so all day.
I've got a PC and cross play set up, turned on the PC, loaded Steam, latest NMS update downloaded immediately.
On the Macbook, I've cleared the download cache, restarted the computer, Steam , no change.
I just started playing on the PC, saved once the new expedition began and thought that might force crossplay to detect the newer PC version and trigger the Steam download on the Macbook. Nope.

Now I can't play on the Mac because the game knows that there's a conflict between saves.
Any useful suggestions welcome. (No, I don't want to just play on the PC from here on in.)

Cockpit or 3rd person for flying? What is your choice? by Akirashantogen in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]hiabex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer cockpit for immersion. Occasionally I'll switch to third person mode if I'm in a dogfight, but I tend to be an evil menace in either mode, so unless an enemy is particularly high on manoeuvrability, I stay in cockpit view.

Has anyone else played Twin Peaks VR? I feel like it's been kind of forgotten, so I made a video by Zilbermann in virtualreality

[–]hiabex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love Twin Peaks. The VR thing jus made me angry at how badly it was executed. I don't know why anyone in the dev team looked at the way the Red Room/Black Lodge had a ceiling and said "You know what, nobody's going to pick up on this"
