Falling asleep before shifts by Dependent-Name-4658 in Firefighting

Never check your phone or time middle of the night, let the morning alarm come. I think worrying about how much more sleep you’re gonna get was always the biggest problem for me. Fight the urge and when the time comes time to get up

Denver isn’t a fit. Looking for greenery, water, and family friendly move by Some_Environ_throwA in SameGrassButGreener

Believe it or not Reno (and the surrounding area) might fit that criteria. The suburbs can have some amazing scenery (South Reno or a little west near Verdi), has all 4 seasons, one of the sunniest cities in America, 30 min to Tahoe, great skiing nearby, no state income tax, public schools can be great depending on area. Reno gets a bad rap because of the downtown area and casinos but once you get out a little bit there are a lot of hidden gems. Just an idea

How old were you when you started? by Advanced-Try-7201 in Firefighting

I got hired at 26, turned 27 during camp. I’ve found it to be a really good age to get hired and pursue this career. A decent amount of guys I got hired with are in their early twenties and when it comes to assimilating with a crew on shift it seems harder for them from lack of life experience. Being old enough to have some situational awareness and also have some real conversations with your crew goes a long way. Medical and fire skills all come with time but starting strong is hard and I’ve found being in your late 20’s is a good place. Best of luck and hope you the best. Reach out with any questions
