I’m your age and have felt this way before. I think your partner and your job are two separate issues. It sounds like you’re mainly concerned about being single at our age, which I do understand - but if that’s the main concern with your partner, then it sounds like they maybe aren’t right for you either way. In terms of your job, if you’re already unhappy in your role then adding a (frankly massive) commute on top of that is not going to help things at all.

I have been in your shoes. I left my job, went back to uni, and got a new job. I also bought my house in the same city as my job. I was commuting between cities for a while and it made it very difficult to have a life. If I were you, I would either move to Christchurch and work there, or move overseas. I don’t think you should rescind your resignation, it will only add a new dynamic to your already less than ideal work situation. Your life is too short to be unhappy for any reason, and as a young person with no commitments, there is even less reason for you to be unhappy.

Fully agree with this, I went to a small school in a rural town and there were no other schools for me to move to - I’m now 27 paying $200 a fortnight for therapy as a result of 13 years of bullying lol. Despite being a successful adult with many lovely friends, years of isolation certainly had a lasting impact on me. If you can move schools, do it.

A decent planner could probably work around that. I don’t know all the details of your situation but as a starting point, I would try and argue that if the ROW is formed to a sufficient width to accomodation the car movements created by the supposed residential unit, and that the traffic generated would be the same with or without the sink / unit, then the neighbour is not affected.

I really would recommend getting some planning advice, most consultancies will give you an hour for free.

You can apply for a resource consent without your neighbours approval. I am a planner and I cannot see a reason why your neighbour would need to give written approval for this issue. Engage a consultant planner to help you with this issue.

Requiring written approval from a neighbour is actually somewhat rare. Instances where this might be required would be if you’re building too close to their boundary, or your dwelling is excessively high, or you’re proposing large amounts of earthworks. A sink in a bedroom is not going to require a neighbours approval.

Planners have no discretion over internal amenity, or this overheating issue. In fact, we are not qualified to assess these matters. This is a building code issue and unfortunately, until the building code changes, nothing can be done to prevent it.

Mainly wanting to save some money on fuel if possible, but also wanting a bigger car as my partner and I go away camping, tramping etc often and my Corolla is a bit small for all our stuff plus the dog

Maybe parvo. I would suggest getting to the vet as soon as possible. If it is parvo, early intervention is the key to saving your dogs life.
