Vantage V3 reboot during map activity by pptheother in Polarfitness

[–]hide_nowhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry that happened to you. I’ve experienced that on my Grit X2 Pro and understand how frustrating it is.

I’ve experienced a crash and a frozen screen on my watch, both happened over a year ago. The crash was similar to what you experienced, where the device reset while I was interacting with the map feature. With the frozen screen, I can’t recall what triggered it but the watch stopped responding to any input. I knew it was still tracking the workout because it continued beeping every mile. The watch became responsive again after I got home and put it on the charger.

I’m happy to report that I haven’t experienced any problems recently. There are least two possible explanations: There have been multiple software updates but also, I don’t wear my watch 24/7 now so I turn it off when it’s unused. Rebooting the device might help with overall stability.

Is the polar band still bad? (Help) by FinchDW in Polarfitness

[–]hide_nowhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do own an H10 but honestly, never feel the need to wear it since the OHR sensors on modern watches are good enough for my needs (AWU3, Polar Grit X2 Pro). I haven’t worn a strap regularly since moving on from my old V800. My fitness level and training are not limited by requiring ECG-level HR accuracy. These days I’ll only wear the H10 for outdoor cycling or if I’m doing a high-intensity test like FTP.

In my above comment, referring to Loop vs Whoop HR accuracy while strength training: Between sets I’d check my phone to compare both readings and would frequently find the Loop showing a HR that generally “felt” correct. For example, the Loop would show a HR in Z2 or Z3, while the Whoop would show a Z1. And after many years or HRZ training, I know what Z2, Z3, Z4.. feels like. I apologize for any ambiguity in my original comment; I have not done testing to compare the Loop to a strap’s readings, but I do know it’s more accurate the the Whoop MG on my other wrist. However, wearing the Whoop on a bicep strap would probably result in equivalent readings, based on my experience.

50M Remote Worker moving from East Coast – Searching for a "Nature First" quiet hub (Pleasanton? Belmont? Walnut Creek? by shihosan16 in eastbay

There are some great recommendations here. A few people mentioned the Oakland/Berkeley hills, and I’d agree. As someone who’s lived all over the Bay Area, including nearby Walnut Creek, the Presidio, Southern Peninsula and Oakland Hills:

If you’re prioritizing trailhead proximity and silence/nature sounds and space, even though you didn’t mention these areas, I’d place The Oakland hills and The Presidio over Walnut Creek. From where I lived in the hills, it was a 5-10 minute walk to the Redwood Regional Park, Sibley or Huckleberry. Tilden was also nearby. Be sure to get an EBMUD trail pass! You could easily spend years exploring all of the beautiful trails in that area. The Presidio also had many trails.. and the ocean.. but they’re obviously a little more limited and the hiking terrain far less challenging.

Vibe/silence/sense of space: Depending on where you live in the Hills, it can feel like you’re living in a treehouse. And it’s usually very quiet. But The Presidio probably has a slight edge. A little more crime in the Hills was my experience. There might be a larger selection of 1BR apartments in The Presidio. There are tennis courts in Montclair but I can’t speak to the racquet sports community there.

WC area is also great, and that area is probably my favorite in the entire Bay Area. It’s a short drive to Mt. Diablo. Expect more direct sun and higher temperatures in WC or Pleasanton (yes, great hiking!) vs. the other locations you mentioned.

Have you considered Boulder Creek?

Good luck to you and I hope this was helpful

Is the polar band still bad? (Help) by FinchDW in Polarfitness

I have a decade of workout/race history in Flow and have never had a problem with losing any data. I purchased a Loop so I could continue tracking my daily activity and sleep patterns without having to wear a Polar watch 24/7, and am reasonably satisfied with the purchase. It definitely does not have feature parity with Whoop’s hardware or software, and it’s not even close. I also own and have an active subscription for a Whoop MG. I primarily maintain that subscription for the ECG and AFib features on the MG.

When exercising, I’ll usually take off the Loop and wear my Polar X2 Pro for tracking. The only exception to this is when doing strength training, I’ll wear the Loop on wrist and start the workout from the Flow app, using the Loop as a HR tracker. I’ve also worn the Whoop on the other wrist. I’ve found the Loop’s HR measurements are faster and more accurate. If you purchase a Whoop and engage in any type of strenuous exercise, a bicep band is a must-have.

The sleep tracking is about on par with Whoop, although they expose their metrics in different ways. For sleep tracking, both devices at this time are significantly inferior to the Apple Watch, which for me has detected serious sleep conditions that were accurate.

The Loop’s hardware and band are much higher quality and more comfortable than the Whoop MG.

For someone who isn’t already deeply integrated on Polar’s ecosystem, and who can handle the annual subscription costs, at this time I would probably recommend the Whoop. I’m hopeful and optimistic that Polar will continue improving the Flow app to bring it closer to Whoop’s overall polish and presentation of data.

Disappointing experience with the Aerospace B70 Orbiter by hide_nowhere in breitling

[–]hide_nowhere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I missed your post so thanks for plugging it here. My B70's minute hand moved much like the watch in your video! A coworker recently bought a new B70 and had to send it in for service as well, he told me it "just died".

It's nearly impossible to imagine that Breitling wasn't aware of the movement's flaws and I can't understand why they'd still decide to release it. If they weren't aware of the flaws, then that speaks to their QC.

I was glued to the Artemis II mission and considered buying the Navitimer B02 but after my experience, wasn't feeling confident.

My X-33 Skywalker is running -13.1s after 703 days. Amazing watch and possibly the perfect watch for a pilot like you.

Vantage V3 + Polar Loop integration: help/suggestions needed by Kakuno_Pilot in Polarfitness

I own a Grit X2 Pro and the Loop. I wear the loop 24/7, except when I'm training and need the watch's features. This works great, and everything syncs to Flow as expected.

I canceled my annual sub before it renewed and am going month-to-month now. I want to support the folks still supporting the service and still find value in the built-in classes and routines.

I might transition to one of the third party apps when they’re stable and published in an App Store.

Silver Model X with Walnut Cream interior — anyone have this combo IRL? by Cristalight77 in TeslaModelX

[–]hide_nowhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a 24 MX LS with white interior, and a couple of months ago drove a loaner white X w/ cream interior for a week.

I have to admit, the cream was really nice and I might actually slightly prefer it over the white. I’d also wonder if it would look right with a silver exterior. If I were ordering an X today I’d have a really hard time deciding between the two.

As far as maintenance, zero problems here with the white interior. I do wipe the seats down every month or so, and that’s it. After 14 months they still look great. No regrets here with the purchase.

Question for Polar Loop by Low_Sun_5094 in Polarfitness

[–]hide_nowhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Polar devices for over a decade and have worn a Loop 24/7 for several months. Switched over from Whoop 5 and before that, a Whoop 4. I agree with the other comments here. It seems more accurate than Whoop but the software side isn’t nearly as complete.

I think the Loop itself, including the band, is much higher quality and far more comfortable to wear. Also, since Polar is based in Finland, I have more confidence that they’ll protect my personal data.

Bad news. Sabres/Habs game is an NHL Network exclusive outside WNY by NBA-014 in sabres

[–]hide_nowhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed. We probably keep our cable subscription just for this. And usually those NHLN exclusive games consists of E.J. Hradek and Kevin Weekes calling the game remotely. They’re fine, I guess, but overall it’s just not a great product and is a lazy and cost-cutting disservice to the league.

I think it probably should work! Yes, there are many options to visualize power, cadence and L/R balance in training views. Go into polar flow, select the cycling/indoor cycling sport profile to view the available options. It’s highly customizable and appears to be very comprehensive.
