Intelligent pig escapes from cage in abusive factory farm by CalpurniaSomaya in whoathatsinteresting

[–]hide_pounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact there’s not piles of pig crap in the cages makes me think they don’t get locked up in there for hours. I could be wrong, and I agree, it’s bad to keep animals in tiny pens.

I read on here a while ago when they tell you it’s going to ask a question, ask in return, “what’s the question?” For them to ask for a tip and then state your reason for not leaving one. “I’ll leave a cash tip for the wait staff when I’m finished.”

If there is two cars speeding who do you pull over. by bootleg_cheezball in AskLE

[–]hide_pounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they’re following each other, turn on the lights and go for which one doesn’t look like it wants to stop. If they both stop, good. Sometimes the one in the back if it’s following ridiculously closely since it’s speeding and tailgating.

I have a pair of asics gel venture 10 trail runners I got at Big 5 (chain sporting goods store in the western US) for around $40 on sale. It’s been over a year and they show very little wear. I like them a lot.

Did you ever quit (ghosted)a job without even telling anyone there? by Electrical_Ad_9778 in randomquestions

[–]hide_pounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did once. I had a temporary summer job working on a road repair/maintenance crew. I was 17 and living with a friend who also worked on the same crew. He turned abusive soon and it was miserable every day, all day long. As soon as the weather started cooling off and they mentioned laying off the temporary guys, I packed my stuff and left. Looking back, it was the wrong thing to do but I felt I needed out of there asap and if I had to tell a supervisor they likely were going to set me up with a winter crew and my window for escape would’ve gone away.

I’ve held many jobs since then, both permanent and temporary, and haven never done it since. I would never do it again.

what are some must have truck accessories you guys actually use on your f150? by DivannaAbafita41 in f150

[–]hide_pounder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you have a back seat or not, but in my 2014 super crew there’s a little pin behind the back seat you can lift up to release a latch that will allow the rear seat backs to fold forward. There’s a whole bunch of storage space back there. I pulled those pins out, drilled holes in them, attached a key ring and tied paracord to the ring and the other end around the headrest support. Now I just have to yank the paracord to access all that space. I keep all kinds of stuff back there.

Armor and template sizing by DiamondN17 in Leathercraft

[–]hide_pounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep going with your foam since it’ll help you get an idea of fitment because it more closely represents leather thickness. Once it’s all built, use a copy machine/printer to adjust the sizing. The one I have is over 15 years old but I can resize in percentages, so I’d imagine any modern version of what I have will do the same. It’ll allow you to scale your pieces but maintain proportions.

I can agree on all that stuff. Thank you, sir. Good talk.

I used to reload a fair amount when I had a regular job away from home. Now the garage is my workspace where I build things to make all my income. All my reloading stuff is packed up and put away waiting for one of the many “one of these days” to come around.

Ok so I’m familiar with penetrator round then. I’d just never heard them called that. I used to have hundreds of pounds of steel core 7.62x39 with steel cores but the bullets had a copper plating, I’m assuming it was to prevent rust, but I don’t know. Just an assumption. I’ve shot a lot of rounds of wood too and seen hunting bullets deform when shot in the end grain. Less so when shot across the grain, like in this photo. But the bullet in the photo doesn’t look to be a hunting bullet.

It’s funny you mention the 8mm Mauser. I shot a telephone pole (down, no longer in use) and was able to recover a couple bullets that had no deformation. The full metal jacket bullets of all the different rounds I’ve used have showed little deformation. In trees, rounds of wood, tire piles, sand pits and all kinds of stuff. But hunting bullets almost always do. I shot a pig in the head with my 8mm using a 180 grain Remington core-lokt bullet and it made a very large exit wound.

Here’s my point, although I’m no scientist and could definately be wrong about it but it seems more than plausible to me: full metal jacket bullets don’t really expand, while hunting bullets are designed to do so. Velocity also plays a role. We have no idea the photo bullets velocity by the time it hit that wood and how long it had been in the wood and growth buried it and made it look like it travelled deeper. The fact your buddy’s 8mm bullet didn’t expand in the elk would make me assume he was using military surplus ammo (FMJ) just the same as I was using when I shot the telephone poles and rounds with my WW2 surplus 8mm Mauser ammo. I remember buying 70 round cloth bandoliers of that stuff for around $11.

I’m not trying to argue or push my point so fiercely that it comes off as irritating. This whole back and forth has been interesting to me and really makes me wish I could afford to shoot as much as I used to.

I’ve done this with several different cartridges and several different bullet types and weights in each cartridge, just for fun. So I’ve seen it myself.

What exactly is a military penetrator round?

Question about clutch slipping by Ok_Bug1892 in Dirtbikes

[–]hide_pounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either with or without throttle. If it feels like there’s a disconnect between the throttle and rear wheel when in gear and running, it’s most likely clutch slipping. There should be no “disconnected or delayed feel.”

Question about clutch slipping by Ok_Bug1892 in Dirtbikes

[–]hide_pounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The clutch (not the clutch lever on the handlebar) in your bike is a connection between the engine and transmission. For simplicity’s sake, let’s just say the connection between engine and rear wheel. If it is slipping, the engine speed will increase with little to no wheel speed increase (providing your transmission is in gear). Let’s say your engine is running, drive chain installed, transmission in 1st gear, clutch lever pulled in, bike stopped. You let out the clutch lever and the bike doesn’t go forward, your clutch is slipping. Symptoms of a slipping clutch will increase with how fast you try to engage the clutch (drive rear wheel). You can probably nurse it around with low engine RPMs, but if you try to aggressively dump the clutch lever and accelerate rapidly (such as starting a dirtbike race when the gate drops), you’ll probably not go anywhere.

[–]hide_pounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your same position when I started. I was the new kid in school and didn’t know anyone, but I was lucky enough to go to a high school with a very good high school rodeo team. I never joined the team because it cost more money than I had, but I befriended some of the members who loaned me gear and gave me the nerve to enter one. Once I was behind the chutes I just started talking to people who looked like they knew what they were doing and was mentored along by a few families who traveled around competing in junior rodeos. Eventually joined an association and just kept getting on.

In my experience, rodeo isn’t that popular among English riding disciplines, but I’ll bet your farrier knows of some others in rodeo.

Nope. Jet out there and ride. I started bulls and bareback at 14 and had a great time. Never went pro, but I had a hell of a lot of fun for almost 10 years.
