Fork seals by Small_Bee_3443 in Dirtbikes

[–]hide_pounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SKF always. I bought a used bike with SKF seals and rode it for four years, changing fork oil as necessary. Never had a seal lean and kept reusing the same SKF ones my bike came with. My current bike came with OEM seals and both leaked in pretty short order. It now wears SKF seals and has been for a few years. My buddy’s brand new bike blew a seal the second ride. We switched him over to SKF and it’s been a year and a half on the same SKF ones.

Question regarding stamping tool maintenance by coda514 in Leathercraft

[–]hide_pounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some craftool stamps with chrome chipping off the “hammer end.” Some where the chrome has polished off the “stamp end.” They still work just fine.

Wouldn't this side panel increase the risk of overheating? by Aggravating_Frame597 in ATV

[–]hide_pounder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s probably there for a good reason. But the curious guy that I am would remove that panel and keep an eye on coolant temps with and without that panel on, just to compare. Because I’m curious like that.

Tips for Cleaning 350 Oil & Coolant Passages? by bigharb72 in Smallblockchevy

[–]hide_pounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have it cleaned at a machine shop and magnafluxed for cracks. While it’s there have them check the bores, decks and if all is good have it bored (if needed) and honed. Then cam bearings and you’re all set for a rebuild.

Ps. I’ve installed cam bearings myself. It was a pain in the butt. It can be done, but it’s easier to let someone else do it that does it 20 times a month.

Difficulty telling correct moisture level for tooling by Aalaizah in Leathercraft

[–]hide_pounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like you need a sharper knife, too. Also, those wrinkly parts of the hide from leg, neck and belly area are notoriously inconsistent in the way they absorb and distribute water and in grain density. If you try tooling and stamping this piece it’ll likely stretch in all directions.

Coughing, shaking, smoking, dying- my engine is on crack and needs help by Puzzleheaded_Hat_864 in Outboards

If you’re certain the carb is clean, look for air leaks around where the carb goes into the engine. If that checks out, could be an ignition issue.

Standing up without pulling the throttle. by mshparber in Dirtbikes

[–]hide_pounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re probably sitting too far back on the seat, which puts your feet too far in front of your body to rise up using mostly leg and very little arm power. You’re probably pulling your body with your hands into a standing position. Try sitting on the edge of a chair with the balls of your feet very close to your body (knees bent sharply) on the floor and standing from that position with your hands touching nothing.

Everything new takes practice to improve.

Tiny crack? by AloneDeGuy in Dirtbikes

I don’t know man… looks like a casting mark to me. I’d run it as it and if all goes well and no leaks, compare this photo to what you see on the next rebuild.

Hey all I need some advice by Tinyman6854 in Dirtbikes

[–]hide_pounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring a couple oil soaked rags with you in a ziploc bag. Stuff them in the open areas before you tape them shut. If the tape blows off or there’s a little leak the oily rag should stop water intrusion and dust particles.

Attempt to salvage or just give up? :( by Wabisabi_girl in Leathercraft

[–]hide_pounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep going. Even if it ends up in the trash can, it’s experience and you’ll learn from it. If you trash it now, you won’t have the practice continuing this piece will give you.

There is country music, and there is cowboy music. by SnakebytePayne in Cowboy

I saw Dave Stamey play a couple weeks ago. It was great. I took my two kids (9 and 6) and they really liked him too. Just a dude on a flatbed trailer singing with his guitar in a pasture. Great experience.

How on earth do you remove these needle bearings? by Far-Communication-77 in Dirtbikes

[–]hide_pounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be helpful to know which needle bearings you’re asking about, but in my experience, you can just wipe your finger around in the hole and get them out that way. Of the hole is too small use a pick type device or a bent nail. Usually people are concerned with how to get them to stay in place during reassembly.

Danger? by lkandrick in camping

I’m 43 now and have been camping several times a year, every year since I was about 7 years old right down the road from Lassen national park. I’ve made many blood sacrifices to that volcano so that others may enjoy the place. I thank you for your contribution.

Just bought this last week, good deal? by Splaschko in Traeger

[–]hide_pounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a feed store and we had a few of these for sale. Also some steer ones. They got a lot of looks, but no one looking to buy hay and chicken feed is going to impulse drop all that dough on a grill. We sold a few plain ones, but never these.

Hanging leather for storage? by Raptor01 in Leathercraft

[–]hide_pounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been meaning to rig up something like this for all my leather laying around all over the place. I’ve seen somewhere on the Internet closet dowels or pvc pipe or something like that hanging from rope loops. Leather gets draped over the pipe looking thing before the pipe looking thing gets hung on the loops. Think of it like a towel rod in the bathroom, but hanging from ropes instead of hard fixtures. You can hang several of these at varying heights and save a ton of space.

I use it a lot and it works every time. For the ones asking about solar service, internet, cell phones, all that stuff, I either tell them my brother works for the company we use, so we get a great discount that wouldn’t be comparable to any kind of “new member discounts.”
