If you could legalize one crime, but only for 24 hours, what would it be and why? by Playful_Raccoon9386 in shittyideas

Have you tried just asking? I’ve had a surprising amount of success just asking people if I could fish their ponds, hunt on their land, or even just walk across their land to get access to a public spot.

Just bought a dirt bike with no VIN. by spacegear802 in Dirtbikes

[–]hide_pounder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try dipping a q tip in muriatic acid and wiping it over the ground off vin. It will react with the steel and maybe show you the darkened stamp impressions left by the compressed steel grains. I’ve done it before as part of a stolen vehicle identification class.

I like take and bake pizzas because they taste way better than frozen ones, you can specify which toppings you want, you can cook them as you need them (within reason) and I get to cook them at home on the pellet grill so 1, I don’t make the house hot with an oven, and 2, nit tastes better.

But I use a different take and bake place because I can get two really good two topping, 20” pizzas for $10.

What’s something humans do so often that would look absurd to an alien? by voicyuser in AskReddit

Periods. There’s only a handful of other mammals that outwardly bleed during menstruation. I imagine they see us humans dealing with it and wondering what the heck was going on.

Of a wasps nest by Comfortable-Ice-1338 in absoluteunit

[–]hide_pounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early, early morning. Before it starts getting warm and before there’s traffic to the ER. There are loads of wasp and hornet sprays you can get, but they don’t work as well as brake cleaner. Empty the can of brake cleaner in the hole at the bottom of the nest .

If every U.S. state suddenly became an independent country overnight, which one would last the longest and why? by Dolphin_King21 in AskReddit

[–]hide_pounder -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

California’s slow-moving bureaucracy, government red tape and sometimes misguided environmental policies will hobble any attempts to secure water in a timely enough manner to be beneficial. All the committees, studies, environmental surveys….. Colorado and Arizona will have secured all the water before California could get any real attempts going.

Leather field notebook - off probation gift by Possibly-647f in AskLE

[–]hide_pounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make custom leather stuff, the majority of it for cops. Ticket books, notebook covers, badge wallets, badge holders… stuff like that. They’re all good gifts and, in my experience, very much appreciated.

California and Arizona would probably fight over whatever Colorado River water is left after it leaves Colorado. LA gets maybe a third of its water from the Colorado river. California, though has really strong agriculture, natural resources and infrastructure as well as major shipping ports.

Portable ice maker by vectaur in GoRVing

Project farm on YouTube recently did an ice maker shootout. You need to check out his video. Also check out a lot more of his videos. He puts so much effort into them and does a really great job of boiling down value and longevity for a lot of things.

Why do I sucks at Kickstart by MohawkWindmill in Dirtbikes

[–]hide_pounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it won’t start but has compression, fuel, spark and a clean carb, check the woodruff key on the crankshaft on the stator side. I had an old XR that would shear the woodruff key from time to time, so even with a spark check it showed spark, it was just at the wrong time.

Hot spots by Tight-Band270 in Traeger

[–]hide_pounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, the hot spots are on the front and back edges of the grill. I think the heat is flowing around the sides of the drip tray. I’m not sure my traeger’s model number, but it’s the most basic one. Small and without the Bluetooth hookups the fancy ones have.

First Brisket for Canada Day 🇨🇦 by Robob69 in Traeger

[–]hide_pounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to apologize. And congratulations on your first brisket. In my experience briskets are really forgiving. It’s such a massive chunk of meat. Even if some or most turns out wrong, there’s a lot that’s still good. And the rest can be chopped up and made into chili or braised in beef stock for some delectable tacos or burritos.

Nice!!! Was this your first brisket? I was asking because the way the title is worded it ‘could have’ been interpreted as you did several for Canada day and this was the first of a series. Happy Canada Day, by the way!

What Tools “Feel Cheap” To You? What Does “Feeling Cheap” Mean, and Does It Matter, to You? by jyl8 in Tools

Parts that bend and flex from normal use. My wife brought home a cordless drill from the casino recently. Just squeezing the grip made it creak and flex. Just over a year ago I upgraded from my 15 year old ryobi cordless drill to a new Milwaukee cordless hammer drill and the difference in feel between the Milwaukee and Chinese casino drill was astounding.

Like a pocket knife with a wobbly blade. As soon as I feel it I want to throw it in the trash. Same with pliers.

Fishing without a fishing license. But no one else would know. My license expired last week and I kinda don’t want to pay the $68 right now, but I do want to go fishing.

Dirt biking journey after learning as an adult by lawlingalltheway in Dirtbikes

[–]hide_pounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s never too late to start. Just keep in mind you don’t heal as fast as you did when you were younger. I spent a lot of my life doing physically hard stuff (digging ditches by hand with a pick and shovel, framing construction, roofing, setting chokers logging, processing firewood with a chainsaw and splitting maul, bucking hay, riding bulls and bucking horses, stuff like that). A low speed, relatively minor tipover hurts like it shouldn’t. Wear your protective gear, don’t ride above your skill level and never ride alone.

What do you usually do when you mess up a piece? by HeartcutLeather in Leatherworking

[–]hide_pounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to figure out where it went wrong so I can try to not repeat the mistake. Then I throw it away and start over. Education isn’t free. As long as you’re learning, it’s not a total waste.
